Advantage to using the sleeveless wetsuit: It is colder, so you hurry up and get the swim done 👍🤣😂

I wear sleeveless because it makes my arms look massive AND the cold never bothered me anyways.

I wear a sleeveless wetsuit all the time. It does give your arms much more mobility than the full wetsuit, but it definitely feels colder when you swim with it in the early months and late months of the swim season (late May and late October in New York). Thanks for the video. It presented both sides well. Maybe a follow-up video in the future to see what swim times are for sleeveless v. full?

I have to disagree with Mark about the impact of speedy removal. We're removing the top of our wetsuit as we run to transition, so there really shouldn't be any impact on time from sleeves. I suppose if the swim exit is very close to your rack position this could have an impact, but that seems like a very limited benefit. And yeah, James looks way cooler in his sleeved suit.

Fitting is my main reason. My shoulders would fit a man who is 30% taller than me...

I swim sleeveless. Mostly because there weren't any shops to try on wetsuits. I had to go based on measurements and order online. It was easier to get the right measurements. Also, most of my time using a wetsuit was SCUBA prior and they are made for your arms mostly being at your side. It was very hard to bring the arms in front and that gave me the bias of poor arm mobility. I'm also fairly cold-tolerant. I've swam down to 10C (50F) for up to an hour. With a neoprene cap, I do OK. My hands and feet are numb, but otherwise I do OK.

I bought a sleeveless because I rarely get out of the state of Florida. Had it for five years, haven't used it yet.

You can leave your upper body bare on your tri suit with it around your waste. I have both sleeved and sleeveless wetsuits, and as a swimmer and having a more built up upper body, a sleeveless suit has advantages... especially during training swims in California

  • @mrmpsoonrich

but ingress of water while swimming in sleeveless is much more than in full, right? u have more feeling of balloon carried with, right?

Coming from a swimming background I was terrified wearing a trip suit. It just felt so constricting on my chest. Moving to a wetsuit wasn't as big a deal

I recenetly transformed my sleeved wetsuite to a sleeveless one by cutting off the arms. Worked out perfectly for me. I am a guy with a wider back and sort of big arms/shoulders, so i always felt restricted by my wetsuit (even by wearing size XL). With the sleeveless wetsuite my upper body doesn´t get fatigued that quickly.

I'm a sleeveless guy. Since 1989. Love the feel of the water and arm freedom. I'm sure sleeved are quicker if you enjoy the experience. But mine is quick enough for me. I also think I manoeuvre better in packs and can bust a sudden acceleration to bridge gaps.

It would be interesting to compare times in the water and in T1. Perhaps they’re the best option for the Sprint distance.

I've been using a sleeveless suit for 8 years and it's just fine. My coach got us a big discount from Xterra in college and I've had that one ever since. Shelling out hundreds of dollars for a new one with sleeves doesn't appeal to me right now.

I might have missed it, but did you mention the time loss with the sleeveless suit? I like to use both to switch things up. As it warms up, I'll move from my thermal 4/3 suit to my 3/2 full sleeved to my sleeveless to my neoprene shorts. BUt I do a swim every once in a while with my full 3/2 just to make sure I've still got a good feel for the water. I always use my 3/2 full sleeved suit with forearm panels for a race because it's simply the fastest. One other reason to go sleeveless... the rubbing points under the armpits won't be an issue. I have 3 different sleeved suits that all have the neoprene rubbing away in these areas, but my sleeveless suit has no issue. The new neoprenes are amazingly flexible but are not very durable... they rub and wear down. My suit from 20 years ago still looks brand new, but I don't use it anymore because it's so fatiguing compared to the new stretchy neoprenes.

The sleeveless is great for rom and it also helps those who’s arse sinks be less botany on the front end

I wear one as my elbows are fused with limited rage of motion meaning I can’t bend them I have about 10% if that in my right I have to put a 2mm rope on zips to help pull up and loop it through something else do a semi squat and pulls zip up and sleeveless is easy to get of for me.

I use a sleeveless wet suit when I swim when I needed especially in Asia.
