  • Triathlon Wetsuit vs Swimskin. Testing a wetsuit, short sleeved swim skin and sleeveless swim skin to compare how much faster a triathlete can swim and which one triathletes should consider for their triathlon swim training. Also, the difference that a wetsuit or swim skin makes when compared to wearing just a speedo.

    This is perfect timing. I was literally at the store earlier and wondered about what to get!
    I’m a triathlon n00b and just started some basic training earlier this week. Appreciate all these videos you’re pumping out! Hoping to do a half or full iron man next year 💪

    Subscribed! Thanks for the great videos Taren! Giving me a lot more confidence and I actually registered for my first triathlon after 11 years of wanting to do one.

    It's so hard to put swim skins or anything else on when wet. Nice work ;) Also nice work on the fancy rotation at 3:37. Got to keep this swim videos interesting. Great video! 👍

    Big fan, thanks as always for the layman's version of what to buy. Any thoughts on how a sleeveless wetsuit compares to a full?

    time is irrelevant if not compared to the level of exhaustion during the swim and directly after each lap and the time
    of recovery afterward using different suits vs naked.

    Newb question then. If you wore a swimskin wouldn't that then be your gear for the bike and run too? Unless you want to go streaking through T1 as you strip it off and don your bike kit. Isn't this what a trisuit is for then? Which begs the question, what is the difference between a trisuit and swimskin...other than the chamois pad (which I want cause the bike is longer than the swim right?)

    Spoiler: wetsuit was 6 s/100 m faster than the glorious speedos, a sleeved swimskin 1.5 s/100 m faster than the speedos, and a non-sleeve swimskin was actually slower (very interesting - I assume not just speed matters but maybe there's less core fatigue in a swimskin or something?).

    like your video but shouldn't you take into consideration T1 impact vs benefits? it will be different if we are competing in sprint, olimpic, half or ironman distances

    can swimmers wear swimskins? by swimmers i mean like in swim competitions, not triathlons.
    i know there are tech suits, but im wondering if swimskins can be worn too

    I'm looking for sun protection so I can do more 2pm pool laps and not get wrinkles or cancer. Maybe I should try a ladies swim suit. My pool has lots of rules too.

    Hi Taren, a quick question, is it necessary to wear swimming trunks inside the floaty pants? Thank you in advance

    I’m not a very good swimmer and still affair of water!! When I did Puerto Rico 70.3 the short sleeve skin it’s the best thing ever!!! It help me ! That’s my 100% scientific results!! BTW the Speedo look way faster

    Just curious how much fatigue may have had an effect on the later scenarios. Wetsuit definitely is quicker, but am just curious. Thanks for the video!

    What's the difference between a swim skin and a tri suit?

    • @trbeyond
      @trbeyond 5 лет назад +1

      Swim skin is a non porous material specifically made to reduce drag in water. You put on top of tri suit.

    Hi Taren, so you are saying that wetsuits are about 6secs/100m on a 200m lap. Well by coincidence and did the exact same comparison 5 days before watching your video on a 6x1000m set, doing 4 with the wetsuit and 2 only with speed and guess what?.... I had perfectly the same results!! 1:36/100m on wetsuit and 1:42 only with Speedos ( 6secs difference), for the same amount of effort and heart beat! Congratulations by the test and don't worry about the mean comments of people who buy stuff based on wind tunnel scientific tests and get mad when a test made on "normal" conditions by a athlete shows that things are different in "real life"

    I was hoping for an normal trisuit to be in the test. Swimskins are not always allowed. Somebody has to do these nonacademic test. Glad you do.

    Doesn’t it take like 5minutes to take off a swimskin negating any increase swim speed in a race?

    • @trbeyond
      @trbeyond 5 лет назад +2

      No. Swim skins are super easy to get off. Nothing like a wetsuit.

    All triathlons that allow wetsuits should require that the wetsuit be donned after the gun goes off.

    if it didnt look like a Roka commercial I would have liked it. Apart from the fact that it is indeed completely useless statistic wise. But I see a lot of people like it so I must be grumpy today

    • @kajet666

      I always complain about pseudotests, but in this case "easy" paces at identical cadences are actually very repeatable in experienced athletes.

      true but 4 repeats where you leave out one in the calculation because its suddenly 2 seconds off from the other 3 is maybe a bit too much
