Believe me, you want a lawyer as the DA, not a cop. Gascon is a cop, originally from LAPD. Even though Gascon has a law degree, he is not a lawyer. He has never passed the bar and cannot legally practice law. He has never been in court as a lawyer, has never tried a case more defended a case, EVER! That is the problems. Even though Villanueva is tougher on crime, you need a lawyer in the DA seat that understands how trials are run and what court cases are like.
I really hope John Hatami runs for LA DA next time. He’s the person we need in the position. Has been an assistant DA for a while, retired Army veteran, his wife is a LA Sheriff’s Deputy, and he is really tough on criminals.

Not all cases qualify to go to federal court. I’ve seen cases not involving law enforcement officers go federal. But when they don’t then we see minor consequences. This is where the LA DA/court system has failed us, especially with DA Gascon who believes in minimal sentencing and does not apply enhancements. Such as the “gang enhancements”. As citizen’s of LA we need to be more careful as to who we elect.
