  • This is to document my Pella dual casement window rot and failure at the bottom of the sash. These were manufactured in April of 2000 and installed between 2001-2002.
There is a class action lawsuit against Pella stemming from these types of failures. This unfortunately is a very common issue with the Proline series.
I replaced both of the sashes myself for around $400, but it would have cost double to have a contractor do it.

I was just going to order $30,000 worth of windows from them...Glad I changed my mind. I'm going with Anderson !!!!!!!!

Andersen makes a good product, but if you search, you will find that many individuals had issues with Andersen as well. To be honest, almost all of the other windows in my home are made by Pella and they are still fine. What really annoys me is the lack of response and/or assistance so many people have had with Pella in getting their windows repaired. The best way to gauge a company is not only by the initial product, but by their customer service after the sale.

Yes I'm with you, all companies have complaints, and you are right depends how they choose to handle things. Pella plays a nonsense game of charging people to come out and look at damage...But WAIT PELLA...you have sales people that come out for FREE to score a job. In my state Massachusetts...most contractor's will not install Pella. can you imagine I spend $30K on windows, have problems and they put me through hell just to get a response, then say oh pay us over $100 to come look...What are they sending a high priced lawyer for that rate??!! I'm sorry I've heard Pella charging visits FOR WARRANTY almost $200, not $100. And it's under warranty PELLA!!! So NO PELLA who does NOT care...I'll take my chances with another company!!!

@@sonatahybrid yes Andersen has had their problems but customer service is second to none. I have dealt with Andersen and Pella customer service. Andersen provided solutions Pella on the other hand provided excuses and blame.

Defective seal on all 5 lower clad panels on two ProLine 450 aluminum
clad sliders leading to leaks that ruined finished basement below as
water pours in through wood seams on the INSIDE of the panels. And yes,
I could see green plants growing out from the clad this spring where
the rotted wood had ballooned the clad away from the seal and glass.
When I called Pella, I was told 'thank you for letting us know - is
there anything else I can assist you with'. When I called the store I
purchased them from and who installed them, was told nothing we could
do. Forced to caulk all panels to prevent any further leaks I hope.
They can not take the freeze thaw cycles of northern New England. My
original Norco all-wood windows and doors lasted 30 years. Only 10 years from Pella doors.

It's a shame that so many people have had issues with these windows and all they do is give everyone the runaround.

@@sonatahybrid I just went out to seal the last two panels and turns out one was already sealed by our builder and that had to be back in 2014. That leak ruined hardwood on the main floor and rotted the sill and studs from the basement up. Had to jack the house back up. All this time I've been chasing what I though was a roof leak and it was the bloody Pella sliders.

@@ajg617 Wow, that's really bad that it got to the point that you found it necessary to jack up the house due to the leak. Water damage can be the worst thing to happen to a house, minus a tornado or hurricane of course. So far the ones I replaced are doing good and my added silicone around the frame seems to be holding up. Sorry you are going through this nonsense. I joined the class action lawsuit but haven't heard anything about it, and you know that class action suits only make the attorneys richer and the actual victims just suffer.

Well, it's been well over a month since Pella requested that I email them with my info but of course I have not heard a peep from them since. They try to appear as if they care on social
media sites but the harsh reality is they do not care one bit.

I have the same problem with Pella Casement windows we installed in a room addition back in the Spring of 2000 so our windows are from that same era and have the same issue. Did you order the replacement sash from Pella directly or one of the big box stores? Were they difficult to replace? I can't find replacement instructions anywhere.

    • @sonatahybrid

Hi, the identifying serial numbers were not on my windows at all, so I brought the sash to my local Lowes who could not fully identify it because the number is what they go by for identification purposes. So I went to my closest Pella distributor in NJ and the guy at the counter immediately identified it by looking at it for like 5 seconds. He took some measurements and drew up a purchase order, then I mentioned the lawsuit and he put in some discount code and it took off 25%, which ended up coming out to $206 including tax. He then said if I needed to order the other side in the future that I didn't have to drive all the way out to him and my local Lowes could place the order with the information he gave me. Sure enough when I poked around on the bottom the other sash later on, I realized that it was rotted too, but was less noticeable than the first one had been. I took the order sheet to the Lowes 10 minutes from my house and they ordered the other one, and it came out to only $148 with tax. Both were perfect replacements and I opted to get them unfinished so I could prime and paint them myself with a good quality paint. They were very easy to replace, only a few screws had to be removed. It does help to have another person help you hold it straight as you unscrew and remove it though. Also, I did run a thin bead of silicone all around the area where the glass meets the aluminum on the outside portion of the sash so that water won't enter there again and destroy the wood.
Any more questions, feel free to ask.

I have this on 8 pro line windows. I find the serial number go to lowes and order and replace myself? What did socialmedia@pella.com get back to you with? Looks like we are late for the class action lawsuit? Funny because I called Pella directly 10 years ago and they just replace the whole window piece, I think it was over $700.

Craig Stob I was very fortunate, I contacted Pella Corporation Customer Service and they replaced the rotted sashes I had, took sbout a month but they are good to go now. The Pella service tech recommended I apply clear silicone to the outside bottom of each dash where the aluminum clad meets the glass to prevent the same fate on the other six casement windows.

    • @sonatahybrid
      @sonatahybrid  7 лет назад +1

Yes, you can order directly through Lowes if you have the serial number and if a competent person happens to be working there at the time you go. Socialmedia@pella did nothing for me, was nothing but a waste of time. You can still get on the class action from what I understand here: www.forthepeople.com/class-action-lawyers/pella-windows-lawsuit/
I signed up with them also.

I thought Pella had a 25 year warranty for their windows? Are they replacing yours? I purchased all vinyl 350 series for my windows and most of them are awning windows. If they don't honor their warranty that really worries me.

    • @sonatahybrid

I replaced my own rotted casement windows and they didn’t help me out, except at the Pella store they gave me a slight discount on one, but then I went to Lowes to replace the other one and it was cheaper than the discounted rate that the Pella store charged. I joined the class action and saved the rotted sashes for proof.
