Great video. Just bought a 85 year old home. 50% of the windows are painted shut. Just got 1 quote for $65k for just replacement window (MATERIAL ONLY) about 23 windows total. Having a few people come out to talk restoration of existing windows. The wood all feels solid so hopefully that first quote is the high water mark.
I had a similar occurrence here. Tried to close my daughter's window and the whole bottom sash with the latch fell off. Thankfully the glass stayed in place. Ive had 10 different repairmen and window guys look at it and NO ONE will do it! Theyll say "try calling this guy he might do it"....ok but why won't you? It's pretty simple I think....i even said it doesn't have to look perfect. Lol The window costs 3000 to replace and I absolutely won't do that especially when it's something so simple to fix. I had the wood restorer idea as well so I'm glad it worked for you! You basically had the same train of thought I did. I'm going to fit a new piece of wood into the bottom and then put restorer on any gaps and the adjoining sashes on the sides. I'm a newbie to handiwork and I'm a girl so youd think if I could figure out how to fix this, why can't they? Lol only downside to all this is the gap in the window let a brown recluse in one night. Lol sealed it up after that for sure.
