question from a noob Coach Wingo. I noticed your students use the bladed stance while sparring. I was told the bladed stance was good for karate and boxing but a horrible stance for Muay Thai. I was told from my current Muay Thai coach that the blade stance is discouraged in Muay Thai because it leaves the thigh fully exposed and and invitation for a femoral nerve kick. I understand everyone has their own method of teaching. I'm guessing your students are more comfortable with using the bladed stance while sparring. both of the students are using the karate / blades stance here. The same one I use because I thought it leave the body less exposed when turned sideways. especially better protection for the solar plexus, liver and kidneys. I have been kicked in all and it's not the best feeling.

There strengths and weaknesses with both stances. I teach more of a hybrid between bladed and completely squared up.
There are still ways to defend the leg kick from the bladed stance as well. As long as back foot and toes are pointed the right position can make checking kicks a lot easier.
The Muay Thai stance is great for muay thai and kickboxing. It mma it should be modified to defend takedowns.
The same thing with the bladed stance you gotta modify it as well to check leg kicks.
