Caldera is honestly one of the coolest characters imo. His whole concept is intriguing as hell. A vet that is secretly a gateway into the criminal underworld. Ive always had a fascination with the “odd job” protagonist. The main character who has a strange of complicated profession/side job and Caldera fits that. I also like how tired and gruff he appears and how he was one of the few “normal” characters not intimidated by Nacho as he very coldly told him never to contact him again.

The thing I love most about Caldera is that his veterinary practice is not a front!! Like, he genuinely loves the animals he's helped and cared for. You get the feeling that this side hustle pays for the big bills, but that he';s just so much happier helping and caring for the animals he sees. He just strikes me as a good hearted, kind soul. Maybe not the most honest man in the world, but a good man. It really calls back to Mike's philosophy. You can be a good man, but a slick criminal.... or even a straight shooter with a cold heart. The dichotomy for which allows the show to explore the complex nature of good and evil.

Rewatching the show and seeing how people blamed Jimmy right away for something that is about Kim or blaming Jimmy for something that wasn’t his fault without second thought made me scratch my head so hard.
    - Chuck blaming Jimmy for switching numbers without ever suspecting Kim…for a thing that 100% benefits Kim in season 2.
    - Suzanne called Jimmy as a “disbarred scumbag lawyer” for Huell assaulting a police.
    - Good ol’ Suzanne chose to talk to Kim about Lalo instead of talking to Jimmy himself because Kim is “easier to reason with”.
    - Howard blamed Jimmy for “making Kim quitting her job”. Something Jimmy had no idea about and once he knew about it, he was AGAINST her decision.
    - Howard blamed Jimmy right away after Cliff told him that he met with “Kim Wexler” and sent a PI after Jimmy (while letting Kim go scot free).
Kim’s public image must be so good that people are willing to ignore her involvement and give her a free pass for something that is about her.

    • @mclricardo

Good points! Kim is the master of "Reality distortion field"! Also, when Kevin Wachtell was naive and condescending to her, when blackmailed by a lawyer that is married to Mesa Verde's attorney head. Kevin can't see anything bad in Kim. Rich Schweikart was in the right direction, suggesting something fishy going on between Kim and Jimmy, but Rich had to back down, since she got quite outraged by the insinuation. She was too valuable for his company.

He's not in the Cartel, he's just a freelance criminal. Him going legit doesn't pose any kind of threat to them. He has no reason to inform on them and no real knowledge of their operation to offer even if he did. Killing a veterinarian for no good reason would just draw attention of the kind they try to avoid this side of the border. Stating that he wants to avoid cartel heat is a good sign from their perspective; he's smart enough not to get busted and smart enough not to cross them.

The Question that matters is: How much are these Contacts worth? I can't imagine they showed us every contact, that is written in that book. But when we are assuming that we saw every criminal contact in that book, it can't be more than a 5 digits sum. So maybe the price is 10k. In case there are more valuable Contacts, like some hitman, corrupted politicians, judges or high ranked Cartel Members, it has as much value for the authorities (maybe even more) than to for criminal.
So it is kinda funny, that it just gets disposed as a non valuable Item.
The Vet telling there Animals out there, which already got a hard on that book. Declaring it as the Keys to his Kingdom. He sells it as remarkable asset, so Saul will pay good money to get this. Because in hindsight of what amounts of money, Saul generated through his contacts, during BraBa, 10k is a steal. Through the book, Jimmy became the Guy, who knows a guy, who knows another guy....that really comes in handy working with criminal clients.
