    The fact that Lalo even knows where Jimmy lives is also an unintended consequence of something Kim does that turns out to be a huge misstep. I don't think Lalo even knows his real name, but when she panics that he doesn't come home that night from the desert, she goes to the jail the next day and has to give her real name to get in. Of course Lalo has no useful information for her about what's going on in the desert right now (how could he?) but once he has her name and who she is, he finds Jimmy. That's her place and her lease. There was no way to know without this incident. More escalation and unintended terrible consequences.

    • @SC1089
      @SC1089 2 года назад +4

      Lalo finds out about Kim, but this does not lead right to Lalo finding out where they live.
      Hello? Lalo is a boss in a powerful Mexican Cartel! You think finding Saul's address is a problem for him? Lalo finds out about Jimmy through Nacho, who knew his name was McGill since he lifted his business card back in Season 1. The first time Nacho appears on screen he finds out Jimmy's name.
      Even without that, Lalo tracked down Ziegler when he was on the run, and discovered Gus's meth lab, completely on his own! You think finding where Jimmy lives will shake him a Hell of a difference? That's nothing.
      The real error is that Lalo doesn't already know...
      Cartels become powerful by fully vetting absolutely everyone they do any type of business with, so would actually expect Lalo to know every last detail about Jimmy/Saul, before contact.
      We are given an explanation for this, by Lalo being the third boss needed for. First Tuco, then Hector and the twins need to be replaced. Salamanca territory must always be run by the Salamancas, so the cartel can't hand it off to a different boss while there is a living Salamanca who is able to run it. So Lalo has to take over the USA Salamanca territory on his own. Since Lalo is doing so much hands-on, micromanaging, with Nacho, the marital status of Saul/Jimmy, is disregarded

    They totally expected Howard to come to the house. When Howard first knocks on the door, Kim says "We should probably get this over with." and Jimmy says he'll get the door "in case [he] comes in swinging".
    So it's not like Howard's presence at their house was unexpected, it was still part of their plan and he died because of it. They're almost directly responsible for his death, intended or not.

    This storyline reminded me of Mike & the Ice Cream Truck. Mike wants to get the DEA on Hector (which would also mean Nacho) , and does a DIY project with his granddaughter to hit Hector's smuggling truck. His succeeds in hitting the truck but, unintended consequences, a random person stops to help the driver and gets killed by Hector. Then the cartel kills the driver, which Nacho participates in but clearly doesn't WANT to do. He just knows he has to. Mike wasn't trying to get the driver and a random person killed, but everything escalates beyond his intent and that happens as an indirect result of his plan.

      Investigators (and it will be investigated) will determine that his mental and emotional state prior to his "suicide" was caused by prolonged and deliberate attacks against Howard. While they did not intend for Howard to die, and probably didn't even consider it a possibility (therefore not murder) everything up to that point was their intended outcome. They did a very poor job carrying out their plan. They left evidence everywhere and recruited too many people (all unaware of the plan)

    I just rewatched all of BB and now I am at Season 4 of BCS. The shows mirror each other at times. Even down to the support groups in both, the one Jesse attends, then Mike in BCS. Mike has the same kind of relationship with Nacho and Jesse, he seems to want to save them both, possibly due to losing his own son.
    Some of the characters also share similar traits and the demise of them.
    On top of that you have the drama and suspense that reaches high levels and the twists and turns not to mention all the Easter eggs.

    I'm watching this series for the 3rd time right now and I'm on the other side of this. From episode 1 they set up that Howard's an asshole. it's "just business" but he screws over the two of them (and Chuck) multiple times as the seasons go by, in big ways that could affect lifetime earnings and career trajectory. It makes sense they eventually try to ruin one of his deals, try to get a sum of money that they wanted to dump into helping people, and get the nursing home residents theirs too. Those firms have a ton of money. Worst that happens is he gets chewed out by someone then moves on to the next thing. It's said explicitly in Inventing Anna. Guys like that only fail upwards. The audience knows Howard has problems in his personal life already, but they don't know that and couldn't possibly have a clue. Like everything on this show it's some "low level" thing that escalates through unfortunate coincidences then has serious unintended consequences: like trying to put one over on those asshole Kettleman's but accidentally walking into Abuela's house instead. There was no reason to think anybody would die here, or anything would happen except Howard looks like an idiot in that board room but moves on to the next deal, as usual. Yes they were expecting Howard but there was no reason to think Lalo would show up and kill him. Mike even said it's highly unlikely Lalo would make contact. When Mike finds out about this he's probably going to blame himself for pulling the security off. I love how everything escalates on this show and coincidences of wrong place/wrong time have such a huge impact. I can't wait to see how they're going to resolve this. My guess is someone else has to get shot with that gun, and badly, to make it look like a murder attempt/suicide.

      this is why the writers make such a point to point out that howard will "land on his feet again." They're trying to hammer it in that even though Kim and Jimmy are making Howard have the worst day of his professional life, it's actually not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. He wasn't going to kill himself or anything like that, he would have just moved on if not for Lalo.

    • @chinmaytope
      @chinmaytope 2 года назад

      I personally believe that's naive - Kim knows Lalo is alive because Mike told her, and she lies to Jimmy to continue the plan that keeps spiraling out of control. Nonetheless, I find that Howard ultimately was far more redeeming than any other character here - he is continually shown bettering himself. After his dread and grief from Chuck's passing to HHM's supposed "hiring spree" (Cliff mentions it), we observe Howard's ability to "land on his feet". Additionally, seasons 1 and 2 both reveal that Jimmy is truly subjugated by chuck, who despises Jimmy's knack for disrespecting the law. Jimmy does not appreciate a by-the-book approach to his work. Howard is then revealed to also be somewhat at the behest of Chuck (he helped pay for law school and is obviously older and more conventionally wise) and it's evident that Howard was largely caught in the middle of the two brothers' conflict.
      The " unfortunate coincidences" is something that Jimmy as a character is created. It's through this pressure that his nature truly unfolds. Additionally, an unintended consequence is something that is bound to happen when someone commits a scam as he does.

    Did you ever do a video tracking the timeline and their relationship? A friend and i are watching this series for a 3rd time ahead of the last 6 episodes and now that we can work backwards we caught so much great stuff. Looks like they had to take some creative liberties with what ages the actors appear because they had the same Saul actor. In episode 1 Kim and Jimmy are only supposed to be 34/41. Jimmy arrives in ABQ/HHM 10 years prior to episode 1, right after his SECOND marriage ends in a dramatic blowout with his wife leaving him and he gets out of jail. He'd be 31. Kim starts working there around the same time and we see the mail room and office park isn't that big - so she'd only be 24. Further episode tell us she was broke, lonely with nobody to look out for her, and raised by an alcoholic. He's a charming but scammy 31 year old guy who's already been divorced twice, who befriends a really young woman. She goes to law school then he goes after she finishes. Chuck doesn't know he was in school but she did. Add in that neither of them look like bridge trolls, even though it takes 10 years due to a number of potential factors (plus what they want the trajectory of the relationship to look like in the timeline we see), from day 1 this was destined to be serious drama and codependency. We only see the relationship 10 years from the start, and the brief interaction shown in episode 1 looks so intimate even if the relationship is still "just friends". They've got a long history together which spans most of her adult life - and it appears he's the only close/consistent person around in her adult life, ever. Chuck says something but only around the 10 year mark so it's way too late to intervene. It's all set up so perfectly. We could see the boundaries break down to nothing as the episodes go by, although they have few boundaries even at the start. Early on Jimmy "takes care" of Chuck like making the space blankets, but his relationship with Kim has a strong caregiving element too, more so as the episodes go by . Looking at it in the context of this started as a 31 year old man who had 2 wives leave him / 24 year old young woman who was broke and had nobody, even the fast-forward 13 years later (the current episodes we see) make a lot of sense as to why the dynamic is what it is.

    I must add, however, that your assertion that "if someone tells you he's not crazy, he most likely is" makes no sense whatsoever, just as do these situations wherein they occur. In either case, we know exactly what events conspired to produce these totally legitimate responses. Chuck's account for Jimmy's sins is one of the most truthful moments in the story, as is Howard's bold conviction that this all was Jimmy's doing. Obviously, if somebody tells you he's not crazy, it's because *he's not,* and this must be asserted to negate the notion that he is, which is a constant accusation whensoever one bears witness to extreme phenomena.

    There is no such thing as a law firm that does not have a detective agency on contract, or at least having one they are familar with and often hire.
    You think people tell their girlfriends, wives, friends, bosses, co-workers, relatives, the truth?
    You think companies tell each other the truth when suing one another? Or when companies work together? Or when they are merging, you think they tell each other all about the other's balance sheet in full? Sure they are supposed to, but you don't think they try and cheat anyway?
    District Attornys and United States Attornys have their own forces to uncover the hidden information.

    You have to remember the older seasons when thinking about why. Jimmy had thought that Howard was the one that didn’t want him at HHM and that when offered the job after Chuck passed, that it was out of pity. Almost like a smack in the face. We know Chuck made it seem like Howard was the one who didn’t like Jimmy but from Jimmys perspective, it was years of hate from Howard. Jimmy literally lived in a nail salon because he didn’t have the money because in his mind Howard wouldn’t let him in. Jimmy thought Howard was the one who was ruining his life for so long and that this was his way of fighting back. Finally getting revenge. He wanted Howard ruined because in his mind Howard had ruined him for so long.

    You didn't mention motivations at all. Why did they do it - that's the most important part about characters development. It seems Jimmy does it for fun (Chicago times) or to help people (Kim mainly - mr acker, mesa verde) or even for himself to help his career or money or ambition. That's why he wasn't keen on doing that scheme on Howard at the beginning.
    Kim on the other hand - ... fucking hell.

    On one hand, he didn't deserve it whatsoever, it's no far with Walter Jr. being bullied in school, abandoned by his parents, thrown into legal trouble by Hank and then killed.
    But on the other hand... if he didn't die the way he did, Jimmy and Kim would've NEVER felt guilty over what they did to him.

      Chuck had the chance to help Jimmy, and nurture Jimmy. Do you forget what chuck did to Jimmy around their mothers death? Chuck always despised Jimmy, he was jealous of Jimmy having their mothers love, so, Chuck was every bit to blame, although Jimmy was a bad boy in his younger days, Chuck turned Jimmy into what he became, he never gave the adult Jimmy a chance to prove his worth.

      @@LesterBrunt it's more than that. He deliberately hamstrung Jimmy's success and cut off a path his life would take that could have cemented him as legitimate.
      By doing what he did, he basically made it a self fulfilling prophecy. It's ridiculous best way to get Jimmy to straighten out was to ruin his career and get him disbarred. You need to remember. Jimmy never intentionally hurt chuck or Howard in the beginning.
      They, however, did. They made it a point to stop Jimmy from bettering himself all because his brother thought he didn't deserve it.

    They are now guilty of involuntary manslaughter. They aren't going to declare Howard's death a suicide and just leave it at that. They're going to try to determine what would motivate him to do it. They will talk to many people who will tell them "Howard was acting strangely and claiming that Kim and Jimmy are setting him up" They will then talk to the film crew who will admit to taking the photos (they aren't in trouble as they had little to no idea what was going on) then they will talk to the people at the club who will confirm Jimmy was there and making a huge scene. The same day his career was ruined he kept saying "I didn't do this" he shows up to Kim and Jimmy's apartment where he was "inebriated and not making any sense" he then allegedly drove to the beach and killed himself. They did a very poor job with both planning and execution.

    Howard is basically Hank in BCS. They both are just regular guy who just doing their jobs but the protagonists (Walt in BB and Jimmy/ Saul in BCS) become greedy for money and power, they have to work extra hard to outsmart them. In Hank's case, Walt tried to fool him many times that he is not Heisenberg and Hank missed this while in Howard's case, Jimmy has to proof himself that he is a capable lawyer because Howard is just like Chuck, not trusting Jimmy 100%. After losing Hank, Walt's life becomes a downward spiral, his family hates him, he betrayed Jesse to Neo Nazi and he becomes a wanted man. Meanwhile, after losing Howard, Jimmy broke up with Kim and decided to cope his grief with his Saul Goodman persona only later he got involved with Walter White, and run away to be Gene Takavic. Walt paid his consequences by dying in gun shots while Jimmy paid his consequences by going to prison for 86 years.

Remember the reason Jimmy was aligned with the cartel in the first place was because he helped the Kettlemans then they jumped to HHM so he had those 2 skateboarding morons (who tried to pull a con on him) try to work a con and they went after the wrong car.
