Let me know if you want to see a sound design tutorial for that new synth. I'm going to be back next week with another audio myths/bad advice debunking video. This is going to be a really controversial one so I'm taking time to do it right! If you enjoy my videos, you can buy me a coffee here buymeacoffee.com/michael.inthemix 0:00 - FL Studio Updates! 1:00 - How to use it 2:15 - Improving your own chord progressions 3:15 - Generating chords from a bassline 4:25 - How to improve the Chord Progression Tool
I don't see the chord generator as a bad thing, but really it should have a setting to end on the Dom7 chord before the 1 chord comes back around, or some set of similar "intelligence." Currently, It's just a faster way to fill in the piano roll. MICHAEL, yes, can you do a "new features in 20.3" vid? New Kepler sound design vid would be great!
An overview of the new synth would be great, in addition to audio examples using the new stereo spreader and one of your usual in depth tutorials on the CPT, upon official release. If you dog makes an appearance then that will be the icing on the cake :)
Most people start on FL Studio and don't even know what other DAWs are capable of. I personally find the FL Studio workflow could be more streamlined. At the end of the day, who cares. Someone with good arrangement/composition skills can make great music with any DAW.
I'd love to use that AI tool for ear training on chord progressions, just let it generate something in a key that I choose without looking, use the slider as a "difficulty" etc, and try to tell. If you guess a chord wrong, you can swap in your wrong answer to see it "would" sound like. I'd also use this over any premade ear training tools, since you can also choose the timbre of the sound which is a game changer, because ear training on only one instrument's sound makes it harder to apply that skill across the board.
Always appreciate plugins to help creativity. Chord progressions always help me create leads, so it is cool to see it will add extra voicings to the chords for more inspiration.
Amazing practice tool for solo improvising generate random chords and try and fill in solos etc to think outside the box sort of thing can't wait to try it out. Awesome content as always my go to channel for music production and fl studio things
That fact that you found any tool confusing already intimidates me because I know how smart you are. I have not updated yet because I'm on the road, but look forward to trying the new tools.
to be honest I think it'd be fair enough if it's tricky for beginners because it'd encourage them to not rely on it, and when you actually understand theory it's like a level up prize
The people who are actually upset at a chord generator blows my mind. This does not in ANYWAY "make" a song for you. Chords are widely barrowed amongst songs across the world, in fact chords cannot be copyrighted, this is why you hear similar (or the exact same) chords across different songs and genres. This is a huge win for the producer community, especially for those who simply do not have the time to learn how to play chords, write chords or simply play the piano. This obviously won't help you if you know absolutely nothing about music theory, or what chords play nicely with which notes, but it's a brilliant start. No harm here, just a massive helper for those who need it. Great Video!
I think the offense/outrage might just come from the fact that instead of actually writing the chords out, You're pressing a couple buttons to prompt the computer to do it for you. Not saying I'm really against this, but I can kinda see both sides of why people may or may not like this feature.
@@theofficiallobst6592 definitely understandable but you could use the same argument against samples, which a very high percentage of producers use. Just think it’s all a bit silly
It's soulless, but it's not going to be used by anyone except some poor guy making corporate junk. I sincerely doubt anyone is making music they like and share using chord generators
@@hydra4370 if the chords are the main focus of the piece, maybe. But even then you could adjust them to match the soul of the project. For me, i produce edm, so something that helps point me in the direction of a cohesive, energy building progression could help me to direct my creativity into sound design, arrangement, and mixing and mastering: the things that i enjoy and that keep me inspired
Two uses for this tool that come to my mind right away are generating ideas for modulation (not sure if the plugin can handle modulations though), and much more useful: quickly generating chord progressions for practicing either melody writing or orchestration - focused practice gives the best results usually, so a tool that saves time on things that are not inherent to given practice is a nice thing. Also, having generated progressions means more variety, since people tend to unconsciously use the same patterns over and over.
I bought an FL49 and then my life had a bit of a upheaval and haven't really gotten back to FL in months. This update is really exciting. Looking forward to the new synth
Fantastic, I'm very much looking forward to this tool in FLS. Now the need to take it to the next step and make it a chord track that pitch quantities other tracks. Now that would be Epic in FLS.
they had those python scripts on the imagine line forum written in python. Cool tool. I think if you know python you can create more tools for FL studio
I think he's talking about the piano roll scripts, which have an own thread in the Image Line forum. So if you google "image line forum piano roll scripts" you might find what you're looking for.
@@ExplicableCashewIf you mean the specific scripts they’re is talking about, I can’t help you, but if you want to write your own scripts, search “FL studio piano roll scripting” and click the link to the online manual.
In Cubase, the chords tool is wonderful and can control any track, or rather, any track can take control of it if it is possible to study and apply it in FL Studio.
I'm not really into music production, but I've always had a problem with coming up with chord progressions. This is a great tool to just generate stuff you can analyze and study and therefore learn from
I love the chord tool. What I did was asked ChatGPT to give multiple options of common chord progressions and the general emotional impact of them. Wow. Mind blown. Ex: A - E - Dm - D Aadd9 - Eadd9 - Dm7 - Dmaj7 Amaj7 - E9 - Dm6 - Dadd9 I copy the progression using text to chord tool, then explore it with chord options in the chord tool. Even though I'm a newbie to chord progressions, this algorithm gives me complex ambient progressions I would never have come up with. Then I move the third up, or remove the fifths, or whatever. Music!
I do like that ESus4 chord and will find a way to use it in my next song. Overall, I'm really impressed with the tool and enjoy using it. If I come across anything else I'll be sure to share it.
The CPT basically seems like a more structured/polished riff machine where notes/chords have more cohesion rather than being random gibberish (especially the bottom 'random' button in Riff machine - that can be such chaos, or ear pain)
It's helpful for sure. I like the suggestions you presented. I wish they would make sidechaining more transparent, similar to Live or other DAWs. It feels cumbersome to set up things like wavesfactory trackspacer or shaperbox volume shaper. I keep hoping they'll make it faster and easier in the future.
Thank you for sharing this valuable tool. It's quite interesting for those of us who are not musician and just want to experiment with sounds. I would like another video where you could show two ways of starting a track using this tool. Thank you.
I'm probably going to end up dropping a ton of MIDI pack chords into this and seeing what comes out, since I already have an idea of certain ones that I like
I love the chord progression tool, in FL great way to learn how chord progressions work, ℹ normally create my own chords by what I’m feeling at the time, on my Akai mini pro synth but definitely 👍 great for learning if you’re new
Wish could see some tips on arps, sequencing and polyrhymns. I produce tribal ambient house and would love to know how to generate more groove in my mix.
It would be awesome if that chord thingy had an appregator build in, and not having to place chords first then appregate with the current appregator tool or to have an arp in the music bank. I follow my melody easier when i play my chords arpeggios.
Sometimes I make a chord progression or two and I want the chords to change and build into the next bit, this could be good for that. Add a few passing chords at the end of a phrase when I'm a bit stuck.
Definitely feel that labeling this as an "AI tool" is modern day marketing schtick (FL has always had an AI generator called Riff Machine). Definitely helpful for those of us that can't get chords to sound good on the piano roll fiddling with one note at a time.

Yeah, kinda rare situation, but we have Fruity Send, why don't we have Fruity Receive
