  • In this video I went thrifting to find some pieces for my dream fall capsule wardrobe! I've really been feeling inflation and the rising cost of things like groceries and clothes so I thought that thrifting would be a great way to save some money. I talk about my inspiration for my fall capsule wardrobe and then hit up 4 thrift shops to try to find some new to me items. Let's see how it goes!

    Inflation in Canada is crazy! We are paying extreme housing costs (mortgage rates, rent rates), food & gas prices. It’s getting very unaffordable for families. We always meal plan & buy what’s on sale. Look for cheaper internet & utilities ect. I buy all kids clothes from Walmart & secondhand stores and we just watch our money. I do love thrifting. I have 2 wonderful stores within 15 minutes. One place is so cheap $1 clothing pieces for kids. The other one is bigger and has a large selection of all kinds of household, clothing ect. I think no matter what your financial situation is it’s always important to budget and watch your money. Live within your meals - minimal. Not try to impress people. I absolutely love your channel and all of your tips & suggestions. You seem so humble and down to earth! I often look back on your videos for outfits to recreate! 😊 keep doing what your doing!

    During several periods of life my family has lived significantly below the poverty line. Thrift stores allowed my family to have clothes. They are hit and miss and I tend to feel overwhelmed by the clutter. My trick is to take a friend who loves thrifting. She can sort through the stuff and find the gem we're looking for. And yes, we're seeing the inflationary impact on our budget.

    Excellent thrifting! It’s interesting to see the big stores you have in the US. Here in the UK, charity shops are a lot smaller and there are generally loads in town centres since they don’t have to pay rent, given their charity status. I buy 90% of my clothes secondhand. It’s more sustainable, it’s cheaper, and it allows me to buy good quality clothes from expensive brands for a fraction of the price, whilst also not wearing the same clothes as everyone else ( who was bought their ‘this season’ wardrobe from high street shops. What is not to love! I love your burgundy coat and the shacket- great choices! Thank you for excellent content

    Val, I absolutely love the two pieces you ended up purchasing....burgundy/wine is really your color! I find it so amazing that certain colors can do so much to make us look and feel better. My coloring is very similar to yours, and I've always been drawn to burgundy and wine colors.... every time I wear something in one of those colors, I get quite a lot of compliments.😊

      You know I really liked this color before I restarted my wardrobe, I had a burgundy sweater for a while that I loved. It got worn out so I decluttered it and then was focusing on a lot of neutral colors.
      But now feels like the perfect time to add the color back in! 🥰

I also have years where I just wear everything in my closet that's weather-appropriate and years where I just want to dress in more seasonal colors and patterns. I usually still include all weather-appropriate items in my capsules so my spring and fall capsules look very similar, but I don't always gravitate towards the same pieces both seasons.

I really like the idea of having more nuance, and enjoying those fall vibes. I went thrifting with a plaid shirt in mind. And while I left empty handed, I still had fun and felt good about attempting to shop second hand. I love the plaid shacket and burgundy fleecy coat you bought. Great finds! Inflation has been unreal. A friend of mine who works as a manager in produce section of a grocery store was telling me that they have to swap out price tags every week for a $.30-$.50 increase. Every week. For weeks. This is happening with everything and it’s truly devastating people.
    I love your realistic, attainable, and honest look at fashion and shopping. Your videos are so grounding for me in a place for of the excitement of consumption.
    Some thing I have recently discovered through the spring, summer, and early fall is that I really love mild to moderate Lee feminine style for myself. The “because” is what I discovered. My body shape is a bit masculine with the exception of a defined waist, because I am rather muscular. I lift weights and have a more athletic build. I really like the look of a more masculine style but find that any time I wear this style without feminine elements, I end up feeling very bulky and mannish. So instead, I am now pulling out my things I put in quarantine, all the pieces that I consider more feminine and figuring out ways to pair those with my more simple style items for a nice balance. Thrift shopping has been a real treat in times like these to find clothing for me and my family on a reasonable price line. I live in North Idaho where we have a massive amount of growth happening which means the thrift stores are full, full of goodies.

    • @ValKovalchuk
      @ValKovalchuk  Год назад +1

      That's so cool that you figured that out for yourself, and good thing you didn't declutter all your feminine items! 😅 And that's so insane about the grocery store prices 😭😭

    Thank you for this really interesting video. My eyes were opened to the amazing finds you can get in charity shops when I started volunteering in one 5 years ago. Like many people, I used to be guilty of being a bit snooty about shopping second hand but, as you say, if you are disciplined and know what you like and what will be right for your wardrobe, you can find some really good bargains while participating in recycling and supporting a good cause. I also love shopping secondhand because the items can be a little more individual than the fast fashion uniform you find on the high street. I loved the shacket you bought; it really suits you.

    I really enjoy and appreciate that you filmed your experience, thank you! I thrift like you, where I will go to the specific section I am looking for items and go through all the sizes. I’ve had people actually notice and comment I am a good shopper this way. I am known at our local thrift stores… And I’ve actually had employees point out things that I think I might be looking for! I really enjoy some vintage pieces which often run very small so this is another reason why I look in the larger sizing. I went to a thrift store recently over in Washington and was completely overwhelmed by the quantity of items and lack of organization, that was a complete bust too! I’ve been to this second thrift store you pictured 😉

    I have tried to thrift but because ‘everyone’ uses conventional scented ( toxic) laundry detergent, dryer sheets and/ or scent boosting beads now….I can no longer purchase thrifted items. I have to try to get the smell out which costs so much extra it makes the cost no longer affordable/ reasonable. I also have to be sure to wash all thrifted items separately from my new purchased clothes which have never been washed in scents and especially because I do have several items that are certified organic and o- tek certified so I am not going to risk making them smelly. It’s so frustrating.
