I was SO disappointed that The Rave-Ups weren't on the Pretty In Pink soundtrack!! Seems like I waited _forever_ after seeing the film for the soundtrack to come in, at the record store I worked in at the time. I saw just about everything that came in, right away, but my memory could be playing tricks, and it just seemed like a long wait.

Even if you weren’t a teenager in the 80s, the culture of that decade was still considered a part of your youth. It’s a shame that they don’t make too many coming of age stories anymore.

Man I miss the 80's. At least I got to grow up in such a great time! THe John Hughes movies are iconect. My kids are teens now and they still love them. John captured it perfectly and it will be tough to ever match his greatness.Hard to believe RATT, Twisted Sister, Dokken, Motley Crue, White Lion, Warrant, etc.. Is now classic rock. Has it really been 30 years?

I feel your pain..however, I feel so lucky to have been a teen in the 80’s. My teen years were amazing, and you’re right--John Hughes captured the moments completely accurate. My teen kids are jealous of our time...but they LOVE all the music and movies from that era.
    ps
I also love all those bands you mentioned. Great memories all around

I have all of their albums. My band "Social Fact" were signed to the same label in 1985 and we rehearsed and recorded in the same studio. the label was Fun Stuff Records. All their CD's are out of print but I have every one of them. They were friends of ours. I wish they would reform. Jimmer Podrasky (the singer/rhythm guitarist) was married to Molly Ringwald's sister, Beth. They have one child and have long since divorced.

Gutted it took 38yrs for me to come across this film as clearly a classic, such innocent times. Looking forward to watching this again with my kids, so many lessons to be learnt.

In 1987 I drove into Dallas with this song on the radio. It was one of my obscure favorites. 2 mos later I left Dallas and this song was on again. Last I heard it was probably 1990. Since then I couldnt recall the name, tune or the band. Still the memory of blasting out of Dallas listening to this song haunted me from time-to-time. Then today laying in bed about 4:30 AM, some lyrics and tune came to me in my sleep. Got up and searched online. BINGO. I guess it didnt lose me

I really miss this sort of music. 80s new wave, punk, and alt rock was so good. People who think 80s music sucks were probably listening to hair metal bands ;) I love hw snappy this song is. Simple, but a lot of simple music IS good. I like Mozart and jazz too. But sometimes you just want a simple hook IMO

Six paperback books and a dying tree
A looking glass and a diamond ring
You lost me and you lost some dreams

Two blankets and a bookshelf piece

Two blankets and a bookshelf piece

Stole a couple of dollars that I won't see
You lost a lot when you lost me
You lost my face, you lost my laugh
and then you lost my confidence
And after work when there is no moon
And the boys come, come at the studio
Well, you win some smiles and answer phones
And you count 'em answers on eleven toes
Well, this little piggie went home
You lost a lot when you lost me
You lost a lot when you lost me

Molly recommended the RaveUps for the movie. One of the guys in the band was dating her sister. Molly was friends with the band.
