Heh, cngrats getting it there. Noticed your Bee on the previous Korn video. Haven't listened Amorphis much, but this album yes. I'm real picky when it comes to growls, if I don't like it the band could be making musical masterpieces and I wouldn't be interested. But here it's great and more importantly mixed with clean vocals, so it doesn't sound like you've been yelled at for an hour listening the whole album. Torilla tavataan!
Mitä?Kuka? Aaaaa, torille! 😊 Tomi is so totally skillful, with His singing. He's Growls are totally pure. Like exemple the long ones in this song. Once Moreeeeeeeeee and Poorrrrrrrrrrrr. Then the softness in His voice with the clean vocal's. Awwwww. Many people dont believe it's same singer, before they see live. Band is Flawless and one of the most underrated of all. They are big, but not even close, big enough, for their talent. One of thr best Live bands there is! Saw them 2 month ago in Tuska, with whole Queen of Time album. One Word WOW 👍✊👊👌

Amorphis Album was really great but so was Rivers of Nihil so I think that Album wins by a smidgen for me... Either Way really solid album espeically considering the Number of Great Albums they already put out!
Easily in my top 5 and I can argue it’s #1; Dimmu Borgir’s 2018 release is my #1 - but not by much.
Yeah,i love this Band.Their all time Masterpiece "Tales from the Thousand Lake" from 1994 (their Second Album) got its 25 Years (!) Anniversary this Year !!!!...they were much harder in their early years.They changed imensly.....

I think I heard from some where bees were considered as the bringers of life in many other cultures too and that's why people still bring flowers to the graves to try to summon bees over there.

his is not straight based on the story of Lemmikäinen's death as the song "Silent Waters" is. Rather that in Finnish mythology a bee is seen a healer and a life giver. I gues here you could see also the circle of life; skulls of the dead kings and the bees bring life in to them... Amorphis song are usually based on Finnish mythology and the Finnish national Epic Kalevala
From the Finnish Epic of Kalevala;

Fly thou to the seventh heaven,

Amorphis are an awesome band. Their lyrics are steeped in Finnish folklore and are thus, sometimes, hard to grasp, or might sound bizarre to those who don't know that particular piece of lore.

@@ChemicalReactions they work (almost exclusively) with a Finnish writer who creates the lyrics for them. He's almost a band-member.
@@ChemicalReactions also, I would like to suggest _Nightbird's Song_ and/or _The Four Wise Ones_ by Amorphis. Or, if you want something old and folky, _My Kantele (Acoustic Reprise)_ also by them. That one's from the mid-90s!

There’s a famous Finnish painting about this. Lemminkäinen’s mother waiting for the bee to bring life back to his son. You find the bee if you follow mother’s eyes.

For the grace of Odin and all the gods, finally here. It is only one vocalist, and amazing musicianship in all the band members and amazing vocals, one of the best i ve seen live and damn entertaining show, again one of the best crowd interacting people i have seen live myself.
I've seen them live once... BLOODY PERFECT!!! I recommend their gigs with all my heart guys!
I believe that the song actually refers the meteor impact of Saaremaa about 1530-1450 BC, which is also mentioned in Kalevala. There is an article titled "Kaali crater" about it in wikipedia. Meteoric iron as a source for steel in tools and weapons might have brought immense wealth for the locals.
I think it refers to Simo Häyhä`s bullets.

Amorphis was formed in 1990 and they have since then released 13 studio albums, of which only one is just mediocre, while the other 12 are great. This is the opening song from their 2018 album "Queen of Time " which was voted album of the year on Metal Storm www.metalstorm.net/bands/album.php?album_id=93803&band_id=26&bandname=Amorphis This song, like so many Amorphis songs is (at least loosely) based on "The Kalevala", a 19th-century work of epic poetry from Karelian & Finnish folklore and mythology.
This is what Tomi Joutsen (their lead vocalist) has said about "The Bee": "One of the lyrical inspirations is the bee, metaphorically. The tiniest thing can sometimes be the most important thing. A bee can bring life or if we destroy all the bees, life will stop. Also, in some mythologies bees are described that they are not original from this planet at all. You’re right though, story is quite similar with Lemminki’s story in the Kalevala". Lemminki (or Lemminkäinen in Finnish) is a handsome, arrogant and reckless ladies-man. He is the son of Lempi (English: lust or favourite) and he shares a very close relationship with his mother, who revives him after he has been drowned in the river of Tuonela while pursuing the object of his romantic desires.
P.S. Both clean & harsh vocals are sung by Tomi Joutsen, except the female voice, that belongs to Noa Gruman.

Very nice reaction! I've only just discovered Amorphis a couple of months and they are excellent, I really like this whole album, very prog metal-y!
I feel like you guys would also like Horizon Ignited, also a band I've discovered recently. They're very much like Amorphis, with a bit of In Flames in the mix.
PS: I'd love to see you guys react to Eluveitie - Rebirth. It's a Swiss folk metal band with about 7 or 8 members; it's got violin, hurdy-gurdy, and flute solos on top of guitar solos! It'll blow your minds!
Horizon Ignited, one more great Finnish metal band with an amazing debut album "After the Storm" - such beautiful melodies.

Queen of Time is a great album indeed. A comparison of their latest works to their old school death metal roots from the early 90s would make interesting content, too. To that end, a good song to react to would be The Gathering.

I think the girl in the song is Anneke van Giersbergen she has her own band, and does a lot with Devin Townsend,.
I really love "Message In The Amber" and "We Accursed" from this album (you could react to any of these two as well), but all the songs are quite awesome!

Amorphis has been around since 1990 and it's in the top ten of the most respected metal bands in Finland (we have over 3000 of them). I'm not qualified to say if Bee is one of their best songs but I think generally it's considered to be a good one. It was released in 2018 on album Queen of Time which got great reviews everywhere, like metal album of the year kind of stuff. In my opinion Amorphis would still be more famous if their songs weren't only about Kalevala.
I heard from an interview that the idea of bee here tells about how even a small one can do big things. And the King was dead already: the skulls are on the shore of the river of death. It was
Congrats on your Finnish pronunciation - pretty good. Joulu is said like 'Yolu'. You said it correct before the song, but forgot the J value after the song :) Tip: it's said English-like only in languages based on English spelling. In Europe east and north of French language j is said like y. Romanian is an exception, they imitated their distant relative, French - the flag reminds of that.
Only real oddity in your Finnish I recognized was the haltiness, which is understandable when the word is not comfortable in the mouth. So, excellent, even the long Lemminkäinen was correct, and it was a good place to halt to be able to say the rest - that's where we Finns pause, if we need to figure out the end.

You missed a bit in the lyrics when you said it sounds painful when the bee crawls inside the chosen skull. The skulls of kings are dead already, when the bees come.
Notice, the lyrics say they bring life to the empty halls.
The funny association this brings to me is that this time there might be more useful stuff going on in that skull, than when the king was alive :)
Another suggestion, which no one else will propably suggest. A melodic death metal band, which outplays most in the same category (not insomnium), Belzebubs - Cathedrals of mourning. And btw, band is based in comic strip and doesnt really exist at all. See the vid and I promise your day will be a bit better after that. And if you think this is bs, their album was shortly at the top of finnish official charts.

You might want to check out Akseli Gallen-Kallela's classic painting "Lemminkäisen äiti" to get an idea what Tuonela (The Underworld/Land of the Dead) looks like. The bee is included in the painting (it is very small, though).

Try doing Black Winter's Day from back in the day. They were still an all out Death Metal band back then with a heavy folk influence. That was the song that got me into them back in '94.

Tuonela is basicly kingdom of death like Hades in Greek mythology... so kings who are lying there are already dead. Bees are bringing life into them (empty skulls) and mother of Lemminkäinen hopes that bees wakes his son back into life.

You commented on the lyrics about the Kings when you had missed why the bees could build their castles in the heads of Kings in the first place. They were empty skulls. Not painful for them. Life and serving purpose returned to the empty halls. Don't know when they were there the last time.

@@ChemicalReactions The song doesn't suck, but there was far too much guttural vocals to go back to it. I don't like the sound of a female opera singer mixed with a metal band. It's one thing to have to range or training, another to sing in that style, so her little bit started me off on a bad foot, and then it transitioned straight into the guttural, which made it worse. The clean vocals were good. There were good bits, but not enough to overcome the bits I don't like. The good thing about metal is that there is so much of it, there is plenty I still love.
