- I saw this cute looking coloring book on Amazon and even though I sensed it was AI generated (rather than drawn by an artist), I broke my own rule and bought it... now I wish I hadn't!

Not all Amazon books are AI, but it's getting harder and harder to tell based off the ad. I've seen fake artists, even artists with bios. You used to be able to tell by the thumbnails, but they are getting smarter about that as well and making them very tiny or not showing actual samples at all. From a coloring standpoint they are garbage, often make no sense or are deformed, and often don't remotely resemble the cover art. All that considered this is the REAL problem with AI books... they take a few hours to create and require zero artistic talent. They are taking over the market and destroying the livelihood of real artists. It's already difficult for artists to earn anything remotely resembling a living... PLEASE don't buy this garbage. If you do get tricked into one, leave a review with a couple of photos to warn other buyers, and send it back. If we do not put a stop to this, soon there will be no real art available for us to color. Not only can they put up these independent books faster and cheaper but publishers can release more books faster and cheaper.. why bother to pay an artist what they are worth? My daughter is a semi-professional artist who happens to be disabled, this is the only skill she has to earn her own wages.. so it's very dear to my heart. Her domestic partner works for a company that creates video games and associated product. It's affecting not only the coloring book industry... but pop art, commercial art, game and media development, etc as well. Everyone in her social/professional circle is suffering due to it. Many are quitting or can't get work. This is hurting real people.
Totally agree with everything you say. My brother is a very talented artist and this AI rubbish is a slap in the face for him and others like your daughter. I'd never willingly buy an AI book, so was disappointed when I was fooled, which is why I returned it and left an appropriate review!
I couldn't agree more, Lily. Pumping out this AI rubbish is insulting to colourists and only cheap because they use wafer thin (or amazon basic) paper . I'll be staying with our beloved illustrators. Thanks for another great video.
Exactly exactly exactly!!
😅😂 This Is 1 For The X Files, Mutated Animals. Poor Things.
Thank You Our Inspector Lilly. X
Awful isn't it!
But like you said the pictures are really cute, It's a shame they didn't take more time doing the book. X
That book is hilarious...your commentary is even better 😂😂
This is the most entertaining RUclips video I've ever watched -- your comments had me laughing out loud!!!
Haha! Thanks Marie! 🥰
Hi Lily! This is horrible!!! But you make me laughing so loud, i almost wet my pants!!!🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
Lol Linda! 😆
Thank you for the flip through and your commentary.
Not only are there extra arms/legs or bent umbrella sticks but for some animals the extremities don't match at all. Not only for the one elephant, but for example the duck's feet are just wrong and kind of nightmare material.
I know, wasn't it awful!
That book should've been named "Animals Impaled by Umbrellas".
😄
Well, whilst AI is annoying, at least it has made me laugh!😂These are dreadful, they really have no shame about what they put out. Id guess the person who pulled this together hasn't even noticed these issues. I'm super careful about what I buy now, if it's someone new, I won't buy until I've researched them. Etsys even worse though now, so much of this rubbish must be selling. 😢 We will loose so many artists in this field, there just isn't a living to be had with all these AI con artists.
Yes, someone else said that about Etsy and PDFs, I had no idea! Money grabbers ruining it for everyone 🫤
To be honest, I don't think they care about the details. Only about money. 😶
That's what I think too. They think the Adult Colouring trend is a gravy train.
Thank you for sharing and your commentary cracked me up 😀 It is annoying though, how AI is taking over colouring books on Amazon. Those issues would make it very hard to colour, but you couldn't really tell at first glance.
Yes, I didn’t see the oddities from the small thumbnail images… but once you start seeing them, you can’t stop!
this is so sad, AI will just crush all creativity ❤❤❤
Yes, totally agree.
Thanks for the laughs , how do they get away with it !
No idea! So many awful books like this on Amazon now 😕
I am almost glad you bought this book. The flip through was funny. Except for the strange and extra hands and feet, they could have made this a lot better by just leaving out the umbrellas, I am not sure if there were any of them where the handle was at the right angle to go with the top....
I know! The oddest shape umbrellas in the world!
Oh god, the umbrelephant 😱Not just is AI art itself horrible and deceiving, the sheer amount of it makes it basically impossible for new real artists to ever get recognition, because their work just drowns in it.
One of my brain's valuable contributions to this flip-through was "I've been through the desert on a horse with one ear". Thanks, brain.
100% agree! hehehe Thanks for the ear worm!! 😂
Thanks from me too. LOL!
Hahahaha! Brilliant! Love how your brain works 😁
I Loved The Look Of This Book, Still Some Nice Pictures, I'm So Glad You Showed This , Thank You. X
Thanks for the video. I think the most disturbing one for me is the duck with really awful long nailed chicken feet. Yikes! Must be hard to paddle with those feet! 😂🤣
I had to go back & look for this, I didn't notice it but wow that is creepy.
I just went and looked again too. Also noticed the owl has an extra, disconnected foot on the branch next to him 😅
I would return it too. Thanks for the flip.
Hi Liily super cute...AI coloring books ...WOW I didn't know that ! wow some of the animals look wird and kinda creepy too for sure .....Thank you for sharing ....Happy Art and crafts xxxxx
Creepy indeed!
I really like your video, I use to make some coloring books, and 3 of them I used midjourney, they did not satisfied me. 1. Lines are not crisps, so these books are difficult to color, there are too much gray area, when coloring the colorist has to decide the direction of light in my opinion. We should ask Amazon to force the seller to write on the cover that the book is fully ai made. The same problem is on Etsy too.
Thank you for warning us about this one. I’m just done with this AI art and am being careful to purchase books from artists I know or who can be traced to a real person.
Me too!
Urgh that book gives me the heebiejeebies! Shudder. Your commentary was so funny Lily 😂 ❤
It does me too Jackie! 😬
😂😂😂 Your comments are hilarious. I never buy AI, my mind can’t handle this
I don't buy AI either... if I'm ever unsure, I just look at the hands 😆
Im okay with AI books if they are certain jokey things example (horror movies, ston3er baddies. Trippy cartoons.) Lol SpongeBob is not supposed to be vaping 😂😂
At the same time I've noticed price increase in some of these AI books.
I appreciate you showing us what to look for. I will not spend over $7 if I buy 1 at all.
I have been avoiding Amazon books for a couple of years. I don't care that I buy the same artists over and over. At least I know i'm getting better quality and actually buying from a real person who put in the work.
It's a shame because the concept of this book is really cute.
It's got so bad lately, so many AI books now, totally flooding the market.
Aww lily I loved this upload you did make me giggle with this one .. AI. is getting more and more it’s a shame because like you said it looks a really cute book.. thank you for sharing this .. one not to buy 🥰
They're really flooding the market nowadays!
@@ArtJourneyUK they are lily .. some books are either very expensive or then you get these AI books that aren’t all that cheap and they are really bad .. such a shame when it helps people like me with my mental health and health issues 🥰
I am sorry to say this Lily but what a strange if not wierd colouring book. Regards Peter
It was weird indeed!
Good on you for returning this garbage!
Will be giving this book a miss.....but lol.....loved the vid
There's so many awful books on Amazon now 😕
Yes I’m a bit thick but please me what Al is, as I see this mentioned a lot but don’t know what it is thank you xx
Artificial Intelligence. Artwork that has been created by computer by telling it to create, for example, "a colouring page featuring a cute mouse in a raincoat". The computer will then pull images from its database / the Internet and amalgamate them to create a composite image, it's interpretation of the image requested, but because its a computer, it doesn't see the oddities.
I had a long day at work and this video cracked me up. Seeing all those mistakes made by AI, and no one bothered cleaning it up! Oy vey!
Haha that's the problem with many of these AI colouring books, they're just a money grab!
I found the images really disturbing. I went onto Amazon to read your review Lily and I couldn't find the book, I don't know if they've pulled it or if I searched incorrectly 😮
Ooo that's interesting. Let me go check.
Yes, I just clicked on the book from my orders and it's showing as "currently unavailable".
Here's the link to the item amzn.to/3NlPUbe
@@ArtJourneyUK thank you for that & I clicked on the review as helpful.
Unfortunately I had to sign into Amazon & ended up ordering a couple of Karla Magana colouring books! 🤪
@@judithfaber2667 oops 😆
I think you were too kind, I'd have said every single one of the 'illustrations' was bloomin' awful x
Some were very freaky 😆
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What a shame! They all could be such cute images if the daft mistakes were cleaned up! Exactly why I steer clear of AI generated books too 😑
The ducks and owl feet should not look like that 😮 and too many toes on elephant feet 🤦🏻♀️
Yes after recording, I noticed the owl had a extra disconnected foot on the branch too!
Yea hate AI books won't be tempted to get any they are just pure rubbish 😵💫
I'm off all Amazon books now!
@@ArtJourneyUK yea me too sticking to more upgrade artist books better paper. Unless it's something or an artist I really like.
It depends on the person creating the AI coloring book. Some of them have a lot of careless errors, like the book you've showed us. Others are carefully edited and don't have those kind of mistakes in it. So in all fairness, this doesn't represent all AI coloring books.
In this video, I was specifically flipping though, and talking about, this book.
@@ArtJourneyUK I'm responding also to what I'm seeing discussed in the comments. People are saying all AI art is garbage. I'm just pointing out that some of it is more carefully made.
@@caseyanne967 I understand that. The other commenters won't necessarily see this comment though.
When you guys say ‘Amazon books’, do you mean books on Amazon paper? Because there are tons of real illustrators who publish on that paper, and it’s a shame not to support them because you’re afraid of AI.
When I say Amazon books, I mean Amazon KDP self-published books, I don't know what other guys mean when they say it. Also, I 100% support real artists who self-publish, they're just being overshadowed by non-artists with books like this.
@@ArtJourneyUK I’m so sorry, but would you mind explaining that to me better? I just don’t understand what books are Amazon books. I buy sooo many coloring books and I don’t want to accidentally buy an AI book, but most of the books I like are unfortunately on Amazon paper and I don’t know how to tell the difference between what books are good and what are bad. Although I don’t believe I’ve bought any AI - yet! Thank you.
The number of real artists publishing on Amazon is massively overshadowed by the number of AI made colouring books now.
Jade Summer, Kameliya Angelkova, RJ Hampson, Hannah Lynn, Joshua Dunbar, CocoWyo and many other are all non-AI artists.
Wow I was just dealing with this problem last night and realizing how big of a problem it is. On Etsy so many of the PDF pages are AI and so much of it is in the same style which just has an emptiness to it that I can't describe. I didn't even check for AI deformities, that would have really upset me if I would have made a purchase. After realizing how polluted the market is I decided to just buy a new printer for $70 and make my own pages because I want to know the source of the art I'm making or at the very least save money if I'm going to use generated images. Canva also has a ton of commonly used line art and it's cheaper to just upgrade for a month and make all your prints.
I never realised that the AI designers were selling PDFs in Etsy too!
@@ArtJourneyUK yes I'm actually finding it to be more common sadly.
