i used to turn my back and try to run away when dps attack me as an ana. after watching your ana videos and practiced, i increased my winning rate dueling against dps. i used to be a silver now i am almost masters. thank you for the valuable videos!
How long did your climb take and what did you do besides watching Awkward to achieve that? Also, is that climb only on 1 role or did you manage to climb on others/all? Thanks ☺️
Thanks man this vid is only 7 mins long but it really opened my eyes, as ana i pretty much just hide in a corner healing against widow hoping my dps will try to dive her, im gonna start trying to contest her myself if shes rolling my team
I started doing more dmg on Ana and my dps duo that I usually queue with legit stopped playing with me because I'm "not doing enough healing". Even though my win rate and rank has gone above his (low plat to high diamond), he refuses to believe its the correct way to play. He says I should just play dps instead of trying to get kills on support. Awkward has shown me that some people are just destined to stay low rank and will never take accountability for their poor gameplay.
getting picks with ana is definitely a must because she's such a strong and capable support BUT you need to make sure you're keeping your team up because you're still support. if you have good comms with your other support and they're focusing more on healing and are capable of mostly keeping the team up solo (like a weaver for example) then i'd say it's fine to do more damage than to heal, but don't forget to help out because ana's heals are also excellent and you'll build ult charge faster. if i'm not playing ana myself i LOVE when my ana is getting good picks and will ride for her as the other support
I have killed many Widowmakers as Zenyatta. I sneak up on her from the side or behind. The player cannot hear me. She dies. Sometimes I shoot at her front, best with a right-click to get some orbs, then I release at her as soon as I face her. Either she runs away or she dies.
EXACTLY. Widows have some of the most atrocious counter-strafing in the game, it feels so funny when I take a few seconds to find an off angle, and 2-shot her with Mei icicles from across the map and the Widow swaps off.
Widow’s used to freak me out, but after learning from you, I’ve come to notice just how easy they can be to outmaneuver and take out. Love your content Awkward.
Let's gooo, I knew all 5 from watching your other content! I try and practise these to improve every time I play OW2. It's what brings the most enjoyment, seeing those small improvements over time.
I love your content because I play competitive Splatoon and you and the rest of the Overwatch tubers have so much advice that the educational Splatoon scene hasn’t tapped into yet. I play a support sniper (there’s no heals in Splatoon but the buff on this is meta defining right now) and I just tell myself “stay in the back by natural cover and look for damage” I think I’ve doubled my damage output
After listening to your advice and trying to apply it more, my win % as zen in comp went from 50 to about 75%. I still need to work hard and grind out on competitive, but I went from hard-stuck low silver to high gold in support. Thank you awkward.
Deconstructing the fear of an impossible to beat widow put on a pedestal, with simple fundamentals that matter and are equally simple to learn and apply - is what this video does, and it does it well! Must watch if you're lost over what to do vs Widow - Another banger!
Made it to masters 5 tonight after watching your Moira unranked to gm, huge difference in how I used to play, super useful info throughout the whole vid as well, thank you!
Some of these things make sense in a lot of cases but sometimes it won’t matter no matter what. In those cases one of your DPS HAS to play widow. One thing about and enemy widow vs countering widow is the enemy will be looking for picks while YOU are looking for HER and not looking for picks. Sometimes you have to know who she’s looking at and you have to capitalize fast enough when she’s focused on someone else. Communication is something that greatly helps when you should capitalize “hey widow looking at me” should be enough for you to peak and take her out of the game. It’s a team based game having teammates to give you feedback DOES HAVE A FACTOR ON THE OUTCOME OF A GAME. You can’t just say skill issue to everything when communication is one of the biggest things that can swing a game
As a widow player who's praised a lot for good aim, I'd like to mention that even flicking partly needs predicting where a target is moving. I've noticed that I instinctually move the reticle slightly towards where the target is moving during a flick. The larger the flick the more time it takes to execute, and the target will have moved a bit by then, thus the need for the prediction. If they move side by side fast it's harder to flick but I would switch to a different aiming technique which is to position the reticle stationary in between the target's strokes and wait for the right moment to shoot. If they stroke unpredictably, changing stroke distance and stroke start/end point, that's where it can get hard to hit shots. A combination of tracking and microflicks is probably the most reliable at that point, but it'll take more time to line up the shot and shooting back can put a lot of pressure on me at that point. Also I can confirm jumping sideways is very easy to hit. It's funny when they think they're evading bullets lol. They're helplessly in the air during jumps, I can flick with good prediction or line up the shot where they land. They can actually change direction during a jump which is an efficient technique on sojourn and baptiste (surprisingly hard to hit) but the trajectory can still be predicted and tracked upon changing direction, unlike sharp turns on the ground behind a cover.
The last tip is the most important one imo. Coming from a halo background, a lot of the tips he gives in his videos is stuff I already know. Sometimes using knowledge you know from other games can help out in others. One thing I do in dead by daylight with tracer is running into the enemy then away very quickly using blinks in a 1v1. This tends to confuse players giving me an easy kill without much effort.
As a widow main, everything awkward just said is true, with all of widows nerfs she isnt strong at all you probably have the upper hand most fights, one hit on a widow will make them run from that angle!! Usually lol what a great video!
It's also relatively easy to get headshots on her with projectile heroes, who often have huge damage modifiers on crits. Mei, Kiriko, Ana unscoped, even Mercy lmao. Even though it's only 25 less HP than other squishies, it's so terrifying when a headshot gets you under 15% HP.
I like to make widows higher up on my target priority list. The pressure will free up the map, unless they are really good they often start missing shots and often switch when they're not just getting free kills with no one to contest them.
Tipp 3 is really important! Widow is a easy target because she almost stands still and is easy to hit. So many times I killed her with Phara because I know she isn't looking at my corner right know. But here is a secret (dirty) tipp: Play Tank, go Winton and bully her until she switches :)
I met some insane widows usually they enemy team plays around them. Sometimes the aim is too good and frustrates the dps and support causing an L. Most widows are easy but theres some cracked widows out there
@@mentlegentlemen7409 there's always something you can do- more or less widow is a character that relies on waiting for your enemies to make a mistake, so why not do the same to them?

😅 Kiriko tought me to shoot back. It's just way to fun, and the kunais have just the right rate of fire for a good dodge movement. Hanzo, Ash, Ana takes me to long to aim, any "full-auto" gun is too fast and does not chip off enough health per hit. When you still want to walk and not fight the Window, look at the floor while running. If she does not have the high-ground she can barely see your head.
FUCKING THANK YOU! OMG. People always bitch about "I hate getting one tapped by widow" when all they gotta do is address her properly. Just like every other character. Strafe, close distance, SHOOT BACK AT HER, counter pick for someone hard for widow to deal with, and so on, are the ways to deal with her. Jesus.
This means you need to improve your map knowledge and awareness of the enemy players. 90% of the fight against a widow is figuring out where she is. This means you can either wait until she takes a shot and exposes her position, or scout for information to find her. Intimate knowledge of the maps will help you understand the "default" places a widow may be positioned and where she can move to.
as zen i do sometimes jump but its usually just to get 1 extra shot against the enemy when they're super low and sometimes that 1 extra shot works and I'm only barely peaking cover. this might not work in higher ranks but fast peaking should be a better alternative 🙏
