  • A shave with Edwin Jagger Kelvin short-handle safety razor.
    Note: I get a little bit more of an efficient shave from the shorter handled Edwin Jagger razors. This is not to say that EJ's standard handled razors aren't good. They are quite good. But for some reason, and it may be only me, I tend to get a slightly better shave with an Edwin Jagger short-handled razor. Conversely, I get some great shave with other long-handled razors like the Vikings blade Vulcan and Adjustable Crusader.:)
    So, it may be the unique geometry of the EJ razor head. For me, it pairs up better with a short handle.:)
    Edwin Jagger makes a wide variety of safety razors. They come in all sorts of sizes, finishes, and weights. but they all sport the same terrific razor head.

    The edwin jagger kelvin is my first DE razor I have ever used. I used an arko shave stick with a cheap brush. But wow I did a 3 pass shave taking it slowly and light and it is the closest shave I have had with no nicks or cuts. The Derby extra blade might not be the sharpest but it was very comfortable. I got a 100 sleeve of the Derby extras with a free arko stick for £9 that sleeve will last me a long time as I shave 3 times a week. Fantastic product both the blades and razor.

    I don’t know how you can shave twice never mind thrice! I shave once and my skin can take no more! I shave in the shower with Trumper cream and a quality brush using this razor with Astra Green blades.

      Yes, most of the Gillettes look like short-handled razors compared to what's being produced today.:) I'd imagine that, back then, it was considered a standard size handle

    Great shave mark. I have a de89 black and chrome handle and love them. I used an Astra blade most of the time but any blade I use gives me a good shave. Is there a big difference between the de89 and other Edwin Jagar razors. Happy Easter and have happy shaves.

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  5 лет назад +1

      David, no difference except for the handles, plating, wieght, etc. The razor head is identical on each and every razor they manufacture. I got this straight from the Edwin Jagger themselves. They wrote:
      "Thank you for your kind email, it is always great to hear such positive feedback from our valued customers! Yes you are correct, we fit the same DE safety razor head across our entire range of shaving accessories, offering an extensive range of handles available in an exciting array of colours and materials."

    Is this good for beginners? I ordered it on Amazon thinking it was the regular model. Wish me good luck

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  5 лет назад +2

      It's very good for beginners. Edwin Jagger razors are on the mild side and give a very nice shave. My point is, the short-handled EJ razors, like the Kelvin, give me a bit more efficient shave than their standard models. Both are great shavers, and I use both.:) It's just that I prefer the short-handled EJs.:) I think you'll find that, although it was a mistake, you still made a good choice.:)

      @@darkgladiator27 Just remember to use a light touch and let the razor do all the work, especially if you were a cartridge razor user. Cartridge razors need to be pressed down, safety razors do not.:)

    Jagger DE89 follows similar strategy as Muehle R89, same head, different handle = different razor name. Nothing wrong with the head, though its 30yrs old (time for modernizing?). Muehle got the Rocca to bridge the R41, but Jagger still sticks to their only head.

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  5 лет назад +1

      Not sure. I guess if it continues to work for EJ, why change?

    • @achimkohlhage1328
      @achimkohlhage1328 5 лет назад

      True n that's the typical british style, tradition, why change? Guess their DE's not the only hardware they depend on. The germans (I'm one) thrive on development, quicker, newer, but better? Often 1 step frwrd is 2 steps back. The Rocca, great looks, but not too positive comments. I traded mine. Y hv a nice week.

    I just received my EJ89 with knurled handle and found the alignment is off with the provided feather blade. The blade is not sitting straight with the bottom plate, not sure if it’s the blade or the razor. I bought it directly from EJ and waiting for their response. Beautiful razor for the price point.

    • @MarkSzorady

      EJs are spot on with alignment and blade balance. Let me know what they say.

    • @Shaverboy516
      @Shaverboy516 5 лет назад

      Mark Szorady Hi Mark, it’s interesting I loaded a Wilkinson Sword razor and it’s seems it’s lining up correctly. I also pushed the blade past the threads of the post, I don’t know if that helped it align better. I haven’t heard from EJ yet.

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  5 лет назад

      @@Shaverboy516 I dunno. Had to say. It could just be the blade itself. Some blades are thicker, others may have the registration off a bit, side to side. That is, the blade ends may not sit evenly. But, for the most part, the actual blade edge is aligned and balanced. Let me know what EJ says.:)

    • @Shaverboy516
      @Shaverboy516 5 лет назад

      Mark Szorady Hi Mark I notice when the blade goes over the center post the tolerance is very snug, but the other 2 end posts has wiggle room, I think with that it causes the blade to expose unevenly, I saw your review and others on the Fine Marvel razor and the fit for the blade is pretty snug, that’s how it should be on the EJ. Can you check yours and see if your blade has wiggle room on the end posts? Thank you Mark and I’ll see what EJ has to say:)

    You said you prefer the short handle to the long handle DE89. Then you said that you love your long handle Vikings Blade Razor. I find this contradictory.

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  5 лет назад +2

      Not really, it has to do with the geometry and design of the razor head.:) I find the razor head on the EJ to be more efficient for me if used with a shorter handle.:) That's not to say the standard length handle on the Edwin Jagger DE89L is bad. The DE89L is a terrific razor.:) It's just that when that razor head is combined with a shorter handle, I get a more efficient shave. The angle of approach, perhaps, changes ever so slightly for me.
      The geometry on the Vikings Blade razor head is different than that of an Edwin Jagger. I get a wonderful shave from the Vulcan long-handled razor. The longer handle gives the razor head that little extra something, IMHO.:) Again, for me.:)
      It really is subjective.:) YMMV.:) But, this is what makes the the traditional wet shave so GREAT!:) There is a great variety of razors from which to choose.:)

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  4 года назад +2

      Yes. it's very grippy. The rubber is quite solid, too. There's not much give when you're holding it. That's is to say, the handle doesn't squish at all as you might expect when holding something that is rubberized. The rubber handle is solid and sure.:)

      This is great to hear. Just purchased the rubberized version in Ivory on Amazon because it was less than 20 bucks. Pulled the trigger without doing much research because it was an Edwin Jagger for less than 20 bucks. I’m coming from the “Perfecto” which has actually served me very well as my only razor but it was lighter than I initially expected and the handle wasn’t as grippy as I’d like.
