    I have about 30 DE razors including several Merkurs and Parkers etc. I had never tried this razor figuring that it was well a little too entry-level for me. This razor is the bomb! It is comfortable, shaves really efficiently, and is a work of art. I read that the chrome is done at the same place that also does Rolls Royces. I urge evertyone to get a DE89. It is a razor with both quality and soul!

    I purchased this razor about 20 years ago and have used it daily for the entire time. I only recently purchased another DE razor but still fall back to it. I like it a lot. It does a great job on my stubble, which is a thick beard.

    I have this exact smooth handle Edwin Jagger DE89 and it's my go too. I started w/ a vintage Gillette 1930 NEW short comb. Added a couple Superspeeds. Then a Parker Variant, which is a tank of a razor and really nice. BUT, I use the EJ 95% of the time because, well, it works so well. The smooth handle could have more grip but it doesn't bother me or I would add some rubber banding.

    • @10floz30minutes
      @10floz30minutes 6 месяцев назад

      YES! A rubber band would help. If the grip of just the handle on its own is still good, then the rubber band also will prevent it from rolling when just the handle is placed on counter-top.

    I had my Edwin Jagger DE89 for six and one half years before the threads stripped out. It made me mad at first and then after I thought about it I realized that this razor lasted over six years. Not bad for the quality of materials. The handle is made of brass and the head is of cast zinc (I think????).... Going to start using my Gillette Adjustable now. Just had it about forty years. I hope it holds up. Ha ha.

  • @RA-lh9uh

    i use one just like that. if you have dry hand grip is very good. i think if you have lather on your hands there is no razor to be good enough not to slip from your hands. even if your hands are wet you still can have good grip. just get rid of lather. and shaving is very good to. depends on blade more than the razor

  • @cmargheimable
    @cmargheimable 5 лет назад +1

    I think the aggressiveness of the razor is directly related to the blade. If using something like a feather, it is a very efficient razor . Ymmv

    Heya Brad,
    I've been meaning to get my first DE razor and your videos are exactly what I needed to hear and see! I'm not new to wet-shaving, however, my first endeavor into it was with a Dannyco disposable straight-edge; admittedly not the best thing for any beginner but I've been using it for four or five years on and off. I've decided that I want to take a step back to the basics as it were and in my pursuit I found that your videos provided me with a good detailed overview of different razors which other vendors/content creators lack.
    I was looking for "good beginner DE razors" on another vendor's site and wanted to learn more about the models; unfortunately they didn't really elaborate on it- but here you are to save my day!
    I decided to go with the DE89 after looking over your other videos, keep up the great work!

    thank goodness i didn't have to watch someone shave....even though i am fairly new, i just want to know the facts and price. Then I can decide for myself. I started with merkur american close (most likely china) and loved it except for quality of the razor not being equal on both sides. watched another video about the rockwell 6s being ferrari. Well, I have that and 3 shaves later I don't care for it. I just don't want to keep collecting razors because that defeats the purpose of cheap blades....thanks again...

    Brad, thank you very much for the great review! I have THREE DE89s (black handle, knurled handle, and the smooth), and love using all of them 😀...I have ordered several products from you, and have always been very happy with my purchases. Keep up the great work, and please open a store close to Boston someday !!

      FenderFan1964 Did you enjoy the knurled handle razor? Is that the one exclusive to Amazon? I have one on the way.

    • @FenderFan1964
      @FenderFan1964 6 лет назад +1

      James 246 Good morning, James 😊 I feel that the knurled-handle EJ is maybe slightly more "gripping' than the other two that I have...That said, when I shave, I have a small hand towel in which to sometimes pat my hands dry, as well as a razor handle. You really can't go wrong with the DE89. I take good care of my razors by taking out the blade after every use, as well as drying the razor thoroughly before reassembling it. If you pick up an EJ, let me know what you think!

      FenderFan1964 I purchased the version with Knurling to make it a bit easier to grip with water and lather also involved. I’m glad to hear that you are enjoying your EJ razors. Where do you store the razor blade you’re using between shaves?

    • @FenderFan1964
      @FenderFan1964 6 лет назад +1

      James 246 James, I have a small shallow dish that I keep in a certain place high on a bookshelf in my house. My wife and I have no small children at home, as our kids are grown up and have families of their own. When the grandkids visit, they aren't allowed in our bedroom where all my razors and equipment are stored, so it is safe enough.

    There is a reason this razor and the Merkur 34c are the most recommended razors for beginners. Both are GREAT razors for a reasonable price. I own both of these razors and they are both fantastic. For good handle grip simply rub your fingers on a wet alum block. If you do that nothing will be slippery.

      @@thorwaldjohanson2526 I can't really say which I prefer, it's more of what strikes my preference at the time I shave. If I could only keep one I guess it would be the 34c because I find the two piece razor slightly easier to load.

      guy fawkes The parker is a little more aggressive- about a 5/10 on the scale we use. The fit and finish may not be quite up to the level of the EJ as well. Depends on if you want a more aggressive razor or not.

    Edwin Jagger razors are just boring. No open comb, slant or something like that. I have three DE89 (ivory, chrome and short)... I don't shave with any of them anymore. They bore me too much. My favorites are Fatip, Pearl (all open comb), Merkur 37c (slant), Rockwell 6S, Christopher Bradley (a, b, c, d plate) and several Gillette vintage razors. Edwin Jagger razors are beautiful, but boring.

      108 969 ...You have a point. I love the fit, finish and overall appearance of the three EJ razors I have. They are winners on looks alone. But I wish they finally offered a really good adjustable razor. That’s what makes buying and using new razors so much more fun. I like the 3ONE6 a lot; I wish it was an adjustable. It would be a way cooler product then.
