- Trying out the latest razor from Edwin Jagger from Sheffield England, the Stainless Steel 3one6. Also the Big Shave Southwest Limited Edition Brush from Wild West Brushworks, BSSW PAA Shave Soap and Aftershave. All these products I’ll be trying out for the first time in this shave.
Retail is $119. Same for all 3ONE6 razors.
Are these razors CNC made or made by injection molding?
All 3ONE6 Stainless Steel DE Safety Razor handles comprises three individually machined parts. Edwin Jagger has sourced and used 316 Grade Stainless Steel forged in Sheffield. The knurled handle consists of three stainless steel components; the collar, the knurled middle section, and end cap - all CNC machined. Note the quality of the machining is such that machine lines do not appear. There are no signs of the effect of machine cutting or shaping tools changing direction during the cutting process. The 3ONE6 stainless steel DE head comprises two components, each produced using the latest MIM technology (Metal Injection Molding). With specific machining processes used, Edwin Jagger believes the thread cannot be snapped off or bent given the method of manufacture and construction of the top plate.
How would you say it compares to the DE89?
The 3ONE6 razor head provides a smoother cutting action resulting in an easier shave without the fear of aggressive cutting. It also potentially means, ‘fewer passes’. The 3ONE6 head should work more effectively than its competitors, when shaving with a wider variety of shaving angles. The angles are very much influenced or determined by how the wet shaving individual holds the razor.
The safety razor blade is supported by guides and pegs that ensure perfect location and ‘bedding in’ against the bottom plate. The two part head also holds the blade tight, ensuring perfect alignment while removing any possibility of the blade curving or bending when clamped into position. The two part head fittings have been adjusted so the top plate and base plate clamp the razor blade more effectively, removing any chance of the blade actually moving, flexing, or bending during shaving.
The cutting angle of the blade has also been improved. It is slightly different from the popular Edwin Jagger DE89 safety razor head. The blade gap has also adjusted which creates a smooth cutting sensation. The effectiveness of the new cutting angle combined with the amount of blade exposure are further enhanced by the introduction of fine molded ribbing along the edge of the bottom plate. The ribs, or veins, help guide the skin and beard toward the cutting edge of the blade. The 3ONE6 two part head has also been designed to be compatible with a range of safety razor blades. A wide selection of brands should all work effectively with the 3ONE6 head. Although the actual sharpness of the blade is something Edwin Jagger cannot influence.
Can you provide additional information about the anodized handles?
The anodized middle sections of the Edwin Jagger 3ONE6 DE safety razor handles are manufactured from aerospace grade aluminum. The grade of aluminum used for the 3ONE6 range of colored handles has also been selected for its anodizing capabilities and the quality surface finish after anodizing. The anodizing process creates a surface finish that will resist day to day handling and offers a variety of colors.
What's the finishing process of these razors?
The handle components and the two part safety razor head components are subjected to a series of finishing processes consisting of hand polishing and two automated preparation processes before chemical surface enhancement. The combination of hand and semi-automated surface preparation processes and final finishing processes ensure consistent texture, luster/shine and presentation of all components. The same processes are commonly used during the manufacture of medical equipment.

Dave from England here again. I received my 3one6 razor all stainless yesterday and shaved with it (3 days growth) and used a Super Shave X blade. I had never used this blade before. I got a fantastic shave with this pairing and 16 hours later my face was still near enough BBS. Proraso white pre shave, Monsavon soap, Taylors HT2 super badger brush, Alum block after and proraso white balm. I was really impressed with this razor. I think it would be great with a Nacet blade! What a cool shaving video. The razor looks awesome and I believe it will become a very reliable daily driver for many wet shavers. Re: Sunburn resistance. I heard an interesting reference in a youtube video by Ivor Cummins on the relationship between dietary fat intake and sunburn resistance. Ivor is Irish, and so was his guest, although I cannot remember the name of the guest. Irish are notoriously susceptible to sunburn. The upshot was that the elimination of seed oils (vegetable oils) from the diet results in a greater resistance to sunburn, which is notable. In terms of the indigenous diet of one's forebears, this makes perfect sense. Seed oils are high in omega 6's, which are highly volatile. We are what we eat. A more traditional ratio of omega 3s, 6s, 9s, and etc in the diet provide the building blocks to facilitate more robust cellular structure, less prone to free radical damage; and that is what sunlight causes. These fats are also critical in the conversion of sunlight into vitamin D3, which directly impacts the immune system.
I think you might want to get a broad brimmed hat to wear when you do yardwork, the sort of hat that Hawaiian tourists wear. Some sun exposure when the sun is at it's apex is beneficial in the production of vitamin d3. But, outside of those hours, too much is too much. Just look at what the local yard service workers wear. They never go bare headed, and they are myelenated people. Take a lesson from the hombres.
A northern European can get all of the needed sun exposure within 30 minutes in Southern California, except in the heart of winter. It is all about balance. You need proper levels of d3 in order for you immune system to kill cancer cells; but you need to avoid the excessive free radical damage that too much sun exposure can cause for your ethnic phenotype. Don't count on high highfalutin alopathic medicine to fix you up after the fact. The process of formation of such skin lesions can be radically diminished through diet and the use of a hat.

Good shave Ken. But for some reason, no matter what razor I used, every time I used a Feather blade I have cut myself. Just don't know why. My favorite blades are the Voskhod blades, followed by the Wilkenson blades. I just need to change up my soap lineup. Any good, slick soaps I can spend some money on that has s great scent to them?

Hi Ken; I can’t remember the other guys in the competition last year. I won the face lathering event. I recall that the speed shave was the initial event. The trivia was fun and I thought Matt did a good job with the question & answer. I agree with you, wet shavers are a fine group of guys to hang out & socialize with. The venue in Ft. Lauderdale was the only, but glaring weak spot of the event. It appears your resort in the desert was much better this year. I have truly enjoyed the videos that you, Paul H., Ken’s Saving & B’sing, Friendship Shaving, Michael Freedberg, and we can’t forget Ruds Shaves! Mantic59 & spouse were also delightful the visit with last year. Mantic judged that face lathering competition last year in FL. I hope to meet you at a future meetup. I must confess that I have taken a fancy to the higher price/quality hardware. The quality of razors being produced on what I assume is a small scale is impressive. CNC applications combined with the expanding variety of materials is fun too experience. How close a razor shaves is no big deal, all SS razors just seem to cost a lot more. Any razor can do the same with 2 passes and DE experience. The test of how good a razor is for you is how comfortable it is with your favourite blades. I'm not going to change my go to blades for each razor, they've all got to work with the same blades. 10 years of DE and I only use a Merkur 34c and a 20C with a std and SS handle. Sold all the adjustable, vintage and funky razors.
New to DE shaving so I have a variety of blades: Voskhod, Astra, Feather, Dorco. I prefer the Astra and Feather. I will end up using only Astra after the others run out!😂😁

Unfortunately it is an aluminium handle and stainless steel head. I don't understand why they printed stainless steel on the box. I guess you thought you bought one fully stainless.. that is sad. Or did you know? I haven't seen the full clip now, only previously, don't remember if you mention this.

The Edwin Jagger DE 89 was the first DE razor that I really fell in love with. Lately I've been exclusively using my Vintage Gillette razors. However a stainless Edwin Jagger offering has me intrigued. Hope to see them on the market very soon.

Nice video Ken. I went to the BSSW also. I got there later so I didn't see you at the contests. The EJ razor you're using looks really nice. Since I don't use them, I have a question. You said how smooth and close the shave was which it looked like it was and attributed that to the razor. To me, it seems that would be the actual blade that is responsible for those things. Isn't the razor just holding the blade? I mean I get the feel/weight may feel different razor to razor and the blade gap exposes the blade more or less but where the rubber meets the road isn't that all blade?
I am not Ken but i read what you have written and i wanna share my opinion, even if i a not Ken. It makes a huge difference which kind of razor you use. Even with the same blade it will be different! There are milder ones and more aggressive ones. The difference is how big the blade gap is, how they hold the blade, how tide. Will the blade be bent? Some use mild blades in mild razors, some aggressive blades in mild razors, some aggressive razors wiht mild blades and so on. Believe me, it makes a huge difference!!!. Give it a try :-)

Great shave Ken. I really miss my Edwin Jagger DE89 with a Gillette Platinum Plus blade. My technique was solid and I could not tell that there was a blade in the razor. If Gail told you that it's not up on their websites yet, then you are the very first to get one.

Excellent video Ken! I've still yet to use my official Big shave soap,splash, & brush. Love the scent though, I got the solid cologne as well. The feather blades are the same in both packs, one just has more blades than the other.

Nice video man, I like the looks on that razor. I'm excited to say I acquired a gillette slim!! Woohooo! Caught one everyone else missed on eBay and was able to afford it lol. Its so hard being southern blue collar and compete on eBay they always have more money than me lol. But I got one, it was rough but cleaned up pretty good. I had first shave with it tonight, which is also 4th wet shave over all. It was the best shave yet. Got a sample pack of blades in the mail in went with your faves wilkinson swords, on setting four. It wasn't flawless but the best I've done so far. Thanks gor the video!

Great video Ken..I'm stuck between RED and BLUE I think I'll get blue too math with brushes and some soap to pair up, now I haven't gotten DE89 as key said it's smooth and nice, I will order 3one6 and see if I get skin rash or razor burn...
