u should use a shop vac for cleaning out exhaust ports. u could have an ex. valve open. blowing air could push debris into cylinder
I just did this today on my 06 Corolla. Same setup as the Matrix. Plan ahead for this job and start by soaking all the fasteners with WD-40 several times. I ordered new OEM manifold, springs, bolts and donut.
Also not a bad idea to get a few extra manifold studs and nuts in case you damage or lose one.
Make sure your engine is stone cold before removing or installing manifold studs and nuts. Aluminum cylinder heads are soft as butter when hot and you will strip the threads if you remove or torque them when hot. When installing the spring bolts I found it helpful to use a set of Vice-Grip C-Locking pliers to draw the exhaust pipe closer to the manifold. It can be very difficult pushing on those new spring bolts to get the threads started without the clamp. Thread the spring bolts by hand to get it started. You don’t want to stop them out.
Hey. Thank you so much for your video presentations. Without question, the best instructional videos on the tube. Great work
Excellent camera work and info. Be sure to go inside out when tightening the manifold to the block. And if you want to be extra careful, torque to 12 ft/lbs. first then go back over them to get to 27 ft/lbs. Good luck getting a torque wrench on that middle bolt if you bought an aftermarket manifold. Probably just make a good guess on 27 ft/lbs.
What grit sandpaper did you use?
Good video . But why would you want to change the whole manifold ? isn’t gasket and donut good enough?
Great Job Bud! Noticed you did not sand down the exhaust to manifold connection? Also maybe use a vacuum instead of blowing air??
What size inverse torx was needed for the studs?
How do you tighten up that middle bolt to 27psi if the drill can't fit?
You're a pro! Great video work.
How about goin about fixing an exhaust leak. & what parts should you look into buying & cost of it all when fixing an exhaust leak in a Toyota matrix
LOL. I see you cut the top manifold cover off around where it was bolted to the manifold. I had the same problem. :) I was wondering how you did that.
Stupid question, do you have to change out the exhaust manifold when you do the gasket?
I’d imagine if all you need is a gasket, you wouldn’t have to replace an entire exhaust manifold.
If there is still a leak around the gasket , it might be the manifold
Muy bien y gracias por el video ¡saludos desde Panamá!😆
I like how the donut gasket is always the wrong size (too small)
lol
Much more difficult than it seems especially the two bolts at the end.
I have to do this to my car so what do you mean?
@@ShieldandBucklerMusic It can be a real bastard to push against the springs enough to get the bolt to touch, and then you have to try getting the threads to catch without starting to cross thread them. The difficulty is trying to do precision adjustments (lining up and starting a bolt) while using brute force (pushing against a strong spring) potentially from an awkward angle, and if you don't get it within the first few tries it can feel like you just did some reps at the gym. It's nothing to be intimidated by but don't expect it to be a walk in the park
Great vidro
Wish you would have shown how u get the top right one
Heavily rusted. Got one spring bolt out. It had a 14 mm hex. The other one has a 15 mm hex. It turns free but won't back out. Must be stripped?
Can I just buy replacement bolts in case I have the same issue as you? I don't want to buy a vice.
Great 👍🏻 video
Bolt above the axle? You didn’t do a good job of showing where that is and how to get to it. I’ve been looking forever.
Could have acknowledged and fixed that crack on the engine instead of throwing the gasket over it..Lots of epoxies out there for welding that crack shut...
