For those doing the heads as well, I think it would be easier to just remove the shroud and disconnect the exhaust and O2 sensor and pull the head with the manifold on.
What a great video. You are top notch mechanic with lots of patience, experience and knowledge. I need one done on my truck however am afraid something might go wrong, like broken stud in the head and then what ??? How much did you charge for this job, I'm sure it would not be cheap. Thank you.
Thanks for the awesome video. I watched it several time before replacing my manifolds. My only issue is that she cited 110 ft -bs of torque for the lug nuts while she was putting on the front wheel. The recommended torque is 110 N-m or 83 ft-lbs according to the 03 owners manual.
Here's a trick for those 8 bolts, try to take them off in a star pattern, it helps with the leverage. It's also easier to get the last one off if a couple of other ones are screwed in slightly, again leverage.
I have a 2004 Sequoia and I suspect one of my inlet manifolds has a crack or leak because of the slight ticking sound after a cold start that quickly goes away, after watching this video I think I'll live with it!
It’s a real challenge to replace these exhaust manifolds on these engines. (4.7). It is a paid 5-6 hour job. This is by the book from I understand. A hoist is almost mandatory for this job. Nice video.
Sue, any thoughts on using one of the induction heaters being sold on line these days instead of the oxy-acetylene tanks which most of us don't have? Space might be a problem getting the flexible probe in there and I'm asking this since I haven't done this repair .......yet. IS there a gasket between the manifold and the pipe you attached there at the end of the video? I didn't hear you mention that procedure. Also your thoughts on putting anti-seize coating on all threads for the next person that has to remove the exhaust manifold..... Great job on this video and you do a great job of showing us the challenges of this job even with a full blown hoist at your disposal.
Im having a hard time getting to the two studs in between wheel well…what kind of ratchet are you using it looks moveable at the head. Any tips so I can get them off? Thank you
+Searching Life Thanks for checking us out! We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Lots of people will pull the driver's side or both motor mounts to do this job, FYI. I haven't done it, but read about it. I need to do it to my truck, but you can see why I haven't yet...
On drivers side I disconnected the motor mount and jacked motor up a little over an inch; made a big difference on those 2 middle bolts. Havent done the passenger side yet.
I installed a new exhaust manifold on my truck, but I had a problem with one of the studs that goes into the catalytic converter flange. I could not get the stud to tighten It just kept turning and when I tried to put the nut on it, it would just end up backing the stud back out of the flange. Would rethreading that one hole work or would I have to do a helicoil or something else? It's just frustrating because it's a brand new exhaust manifold and for that to happen on the last stud, is quite annoying. Any help would be great thank you.
If you lube all the bolts with penetrating oil (pb blaster) at least 24 hours before, taking the shield bolts and 6 of the exhaust manifold bolts should take less than 20 minutes. Its the bolts by the engine mount that will take forever. They are hard to get to. Those require special ratcheting breaker bars that can hold at an angle. It should take about 1.5 hours with the right tools per side. Just take your time and don't snap any bolts. Heat them if they dont budge. Spray more penetrating oil. Even if it take a day. Its better than having to drill out any manifold bolt, especially on this engines tight access
Can an exhaust leak cause a P0032 and P0052 check engine light code? I already replaced all the O2 sensors and there is a strong exhaust smell and codes still exist.
+C Otake We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I was checking part prices ($Runner 4.7) and the internet toyota dealership was around $950 for the manifold while the discount aftermarket supplier was around $240. But labor -- well, you've seen the video.
Why isn’t there the corrosion between the steel studs and the aluminum heads? In almost every piece of heavy equipment, you snap the studs off. And that really sucks!

Cha... she wooped my ass, look I started at 10am, and finished 1 side at 4pm. Do yourself a favor and go ahead and buy exauhst manifold bolts becouse some aren't gonna go back in and the nut will just spin on the stud... just replace it!!! Dude, I dont have a lift, and it wore me smooth out. Right side next weekend

Mehhh... not difficult but she sure is hammering away
I bet the hardest part of shooting these videos is not cursing. Haha
Excellent & professional mechanic. This video will come in handy when the time comes..

What a PITA. I have to do the same job. Great video.

Some jobs are doable but paying someone else is ok too. I can do this but I'd rather pay someone.

That’s my fear as well, broken bolt and then I’m up a crik without a paddle
So much respect , the strength and power in this woman is incredible
How many hours did this job take start to finish? My shop is quoting 5 hours. My truck does not have the rust like the truck in the video.
Thank you so much!! I was gonna take it to the shop but now Im gonna do it myself 😉
Nice video. Nice to see a lady taking it on.

Yeah, I was thinking exactly the same thing. 110 ft lbs is way over torqued for the Tundra.
Here's a trick for those 8 bolts, try to take them off in a star pattern, it helps with the leverage.
It's also easier to get the last one off if a couple of other ones are screwed in slightly, again leverage.

I have the same year and same issue too
Same here it's the front right corner you have to take it off and weld the pin holes from the inside of the exaust manifold
Thanks for the video! Shop wants $2500 with parts. Going to do it myself and slap on some headers instead of the stock manifolds!
$2500...😦 that has me thinking about doing it myself but damm idk if i have the patience.😄
What a great attitude on a cranky job!
I would be cussing 🤬 and mad, lol

Thank you for an honest how to video.

I feel your pain. It took me an hour and a half without a lift but using air tools to get the just the damn shield off LOL

Tough job!!! Did it on my Sequioa. Only took a weekend. smh.
Size socket for Stud is E8, not E10. E10 might work but will be loose.
OUTSTANDING ! MECHANIC.. A+
Since the studs were coming out, does the new one come with studs?
She stated she bought new studs at the dealer.
At some point around 9 minutes in I started feeling very, very weary of this job.
Lots of people will pull the driver's side or both motor mounts to do this job, FYI. I haven't done it, but read about it. I need to do it to my truck, but you can see why I haven't yet...

How many hours of labor would you quote for a single side manifold swap?
Great video. What type of penetrating oil do you use?

What will happen if I just left it alone since the ticking sound dissappears after cold start? Will my gas mileage go up thinking I am running lean?
Just one question....can you give an approximate time per side?

I need this done on my 07 v8 4Runner and wondering if I had a shop do it about what the labor cost should be? Just got a really high quote so no way.
I need the same on my 07 V8 4runner. Want to install doug thorley headers. Have you found a shop to do it?
I was checking part prices ($Runner 4.7) and the internet toyota dealership was around $950 for the manifold while the discount aftermarket supplier was around $240. But labor -- well, you've seen the video.
What are the differences between an 06 head and an 03 head?
how much would it cost for a mechanic to remove and put new headers on?
Thank for the video !!!

Is there a gasket between the manifold and the cat pipe?
Yes
Why isn’t there the corrosion between the steel studs and the aluminum heads? In almost every piece of heavy equipment, you snap the studs off. And that really sucks!
So you have to remove the oil dipstick tube.. does that also mean that you have to drain the oil from the engine?
no answer... that's why these videos suck
No draining oil not required.
No Naz, just the pipe is all you remove ....oil stays in the oil pan....
@@bt7153 did the video say "drain the oil"?? Answer is no. These are literally step by step instructions.
@@chefluigi4752 But it's a good idea to cover/plug up the hole where the dipstick was removed.
Great video! Should be slightly easier on a California car.
Thank you! +155stw
Bolt size? Mine are rusted to all hell ,arp make header bolts?
Is there only me asking the questions: which situation would cause the replacement?
Can u do one for a 2015 tundra??

thanks for the video, I'd rather send the job to another shop ....
