The sales of marvel champions alone and the fact fantasy flight have secured the rights to the xmen have already pretty much guaranteed that luckily. It may take awhile to get there though. :)
YES! X-Men in Marvel Champions is going to be worth the wait... (hopefully some of the existing chars get errata'd to have an X-Men trait if relevant mechanics come along (Quicksilver, etc))
I’ve been playing this game all week and really enjoy it. I find it better than Elder Sign thanks to the unique dice pools and the assist cards. It gives you more strategy instead of just pure luck like Elder Sign. That said, there is one thing that’s unclear. If the showdown is triggered when you complete a story mission, when do assist cards return to the hero? Since you skip the regroup phase at the start of the showdown, assist cards could be stuck with other heroes for the next round.
Assist card makes no difference to placing another PC in the same location (adding extra dice). And I can't see the theme in it. Example Wolverine assist Fastball Special is a signature move between Colossus and himself. Would be better if there are specific assists/combos between specific characters. But in the end its limited to dice pool and rolling.
@@FPchie It does make a difference because you can use their assist special ability which can combo with their own. Lol spending so much time trolling a game you haven't played and somehow still don't like.
@@b.c.eckhoff3495 nah its just that you can't handle criticism from others since you have already bought the game. Or you want me to repeat again, the assist doesn't match with the theme. Its just adding more dice to do your "combos". Glad I didn't waste my money on this even though I love X-men. It is easy customer base like you that FFG is milking money from anyways.
This tutorial seems to imply that an 'Assist' is voluntary. The rulebook however states that the active hero decides wether or not to be assisted. This doesn't seem voluntary. So, which is it? Also, couldn't Storm have assisted Cylops (in this tutorial) when he was the active player, giving him two extra die and an ability? She hasn't assisted anyone this round. Finally, when a Sentinel is discarded is raises Threat by its '!'-ammount and not just by 1, right?
@@sneekiersnek3122 Hiya, thanks for the reply, but I think you understood me wrong. I'm not a native speaker, so that could be the problem. However, these were my remarks: Can an assist be denied (by the Cyclops payer) or does the active player get to decide (in this case the Storm player). In regards to the Sentinel in this video, the comment made when discarding is wrong. If the Sentinel shows two !!'s Threat is raised by two, and not just one. At least, according to the rule-book I have in front of me. Hope this clears things up.
Marvel Champions is (with AH) the best cooperative Cardgame by FFG... X-Men Mutant Insurrection basically is just Yahtzee with a Marvel Skin. Marvel Champions is unique and completely new.
I can see there are some interesting things here, but the attempts to tell a story seem kind of diminished by some generic-feeling elements. 1) I strongly dislike cardboard standees vs. miniatures. I understand there's a cost there, but standees feel really cheap. 2) The missions show the continent as their picture. This is unnecessary, as the back of the card already shows which continent it is. It's really hard for me to get interested in a mission when all I have is a generic name and symbols for what dice I need to complete it. As these look like a primary driving point of the game, having these things be so generic is frustrating. 3) The symbols for the dice look so basic. I feel it probably would have been better to have each hero have their own set of dice, each differently colored. I get that you need the mission requirements to be relatively basic so that anyone can accomplish them, but it just feels like this was kind of the minimum effort for mission design. You could have had more than 3 symbols, and each hero would specialize better in their own set of symbols. For extra intrigue, the assistance could be a pair of dice that have extra stripes or something added on to the dice. That will communicate the assistance much more visually. That's just off the top of my head, and I think of this because it doesn't look particularly special to try achieving any of these missions as-is. That said, there are a lot of things to love here, like the deep digs into the wide array of X-Men characters on top of the classic storylines. I'd probably be willing to play it if someone brought it to the table, but this demo did not convince me to purchase it for myself.
FFG is one of my favorite publishers. When this was announced, I was very underwhelmed. Haven't played it yet, but it's looks very clunky. It also lacks the visual polish that FFG is known for. No minis is also a major let down. Reviews have been mixed so far, but I think I'll have to pass.
well I already saw the review of the dice tower and the review of roll for crit as well... will it be the same as elder sign? cuz I hated elder sign - the theme, the unbalanced luck, the hard missions (my butt still hurts everytime I play it and this is not just because of the sitting on the chair part...) I would really really really like to love it but FFG you are just doing the same all over again you took elder sign with a retheme of the x-men and before that you just took LOTR the LCG and rethemed it to marvel champions. well I don't even like the LCG model anymore so I really don't care about marvel champions, again my butt still hurt from elder sign and from LOTR LCG cuz they both have great app but crappy gameplay for me... still need to know about this game for solo since this is the only way I'll play - and no I'm not going to buy marvel champions didn't like it at all
I love Elder Sign and have all its expansions and can definitely say that if you don't like it because of its mechanics and gameplay then you won't like this. I haven't watched any other reviews, so just based on this video it feels like it's about 70% Elder Sign & expansions (mutants and training are basically items and spells, sentinels are basically monsters), 20% a variation on an Elder Sign concept (they changed the way assisting other players works and reroll rules are quite different) and 10% new ideas (bonds). If you just don't like the theme (I totally get that people are tired of games with tentacles) then maybe there's something for you. For me it's too similar to Elder Sign. The later expansions had stories so even that's not completely new. I've also been finding that FFG's artwork and game aesthetics is diverging further and further from what I like. Marvel Champions was a bit meh, I had planned to buy their new Descent until I saw the art style and now this doesn't appeal to me either. But Marvel Champions is insanely popular and seems to appeal to a younger skewing demographic so maybe the only problem is I'm too old ;) I criticise FFG for a lot but I can't blame them for re-skinning an older hit for a new audience. They have to pay those Marvel IP bills somehow. I just wish they'd release more Mansions of Madness or have the balls to tell us it's finished.
Its twin Elder Sign is a much better game than this in terms of aesthetics, components and gameplay. Example you need to remove a dice for every reroll. Give you a more thrill and dread experience. Xmen is more pure Yahtzee game. Graphics is hit and miss. Hate the bland relationship and side mission cards. And whats with standee wolverine weird long claws ?? Also they cut short with limited plastic standee holders. Another lazy franchise cash grab by FFG.

Garbage tier game on par with that crappy Arkham Horror game they released recently. Terrible component quality as well, just FFG trying to get some dollars using the IP. Check out the Dice Tower review if you want to see more.
