When I first saw it I thought it was a peddle car. It's great that there are companies that make replacement parts for these old toys. You did a great job. The red and white colors remind me of the Western Flyer wagon I had as a child. Christmas mornings were always something special and so are these classic toys. Thanks for saving a piece of history.
Your restorations of this & the TONKA vehicles you do is purely !!!!AMAZING!!!! Seriously, I can't wait for your next endeavor. The change to a red painted body...with white cab, tailgate & accent stripe was a stroke of artistic genius. Kindest regards, Ben
@Totally Rad Dude I grew up in NZ with a "post box" but when I came to the UK getting used to post coming through the front door took some getting used too!
Great job as usual. I would love 2 buy this one from you. My Grandpa had a 1964 Econoline pickup. I have always been a big fun of them. Have a blessed night. Keep doing what you do.
Very nice work. I don't know about the white tailgate, probably how it came from the factory, but I think I would have changed it to red like the main body... maybe found a Ford decal in the white.
Getting away from the original color was probably the right move. But you picked something that looks authentic. It reminds me of a red wagon a kid might be pulling around. Very appropriate for the time period the toy was made in.
Great Job. Believe I saw a few scratches on the new windshield, probably from sticker removal. Try using wd-40 or mineral on the sticker overnight. The tags will usually peel right off. Headlight polish could also remove the scratches. Narragansett Bay.
You forgot to polish the inside of the front bumper; there’s still rust in there. Also, that front windshield is scratched. When you were removing those white walls, did you notice that on those tires there’s a hole on the back side of the tires that was put there specifically to allow removal of the white whiles by pushing a thin steel rod through from the backside.
Beautiful restoration, hard to believe it’s the same truck. I restored the Nylint Double Hopper semi truck and remember sitting there taking stones out of the plastic wheels, and I was using toothpicks. Doing restorations is fun but hard work.
Good job on the nylint, I really liked Anka's but it seems like that's all you see people restore you don't see a lot of Nyla videos appreciate that you're doing one!
Good job on the nylint, I really like tonka's but it seems like that's all you see people restore you don't see a lot of nylint videos, appreciate that you're doing one!
I bought a hot rod with no top and missing a hub cap off of eBay I plan to make a top for it and try and either make a cap for it or buy one. The paint is a little nick up but I think I will just wax it. The top and seats will Make it look right. Oh and paid like $ 8 buck's for it not bad.
FYI Joe dip your the tips of your needle nose pliers in liquid tape that way you don’t scratch anything and it holds parts better also just throwing that out there you do great work
Powder coating, yessss!!!! I'm crazy about powder coating. That and your great work earned a sub and notification. I thought I'd already subscribed to all of the good restorers. I'm sure I've seen some of your other vids but I'll go check. I'm addicted and I've run through all of the restoration videos on RUclips..
I realized that in your videos, you don't disassemble the main bodies of the toys like most restoration channels do. Is it a preference or technical difficulties (welding, etc)?
The frames on these are spot welded from the factory in such a way that if you try to remove them you will only bend up the metal. These actually need to be dipped into a container of white vinegar for about two weeks to get all the rust out. After all the rust and paint falls off then dip them in red oxide primer. Thinned down so it will flow between the body and the frame. It will never rust again between the frame and body. Then apply a thicker coat of primer to fill the pits. Sand it with 1200 almost back down to the metal. Reapply the primer. I could see the puts through the primer on this one. He did a good job. Just, not 100%.
You did an excellent job of restoring the truck. I remember as a kid my grandfather had a nylint Jungle Wagon I used to play with as a kid. One day I will find one and restore it. Your videos give me hope. Thanks again. BTW, at 12:20 if that windshield is new why is it so scratched up?
I would like to make a suggestion. Take the tip of the powder coat gun off. The part that looks like a button so that you can get a better coverage with the powder coat in one pass as compared to the several passes that it takes you in this video. I have watched several other videos of people powder coating toys and they have taken the tip of the gun off and it works much better.
Looks great! I saw this come up in my feed and saw it was a Nylint toy and I have a lot of Nylint toys that I have done and some waiting for the restoration.
I thoroughly enjoy your restoration videos. I do have a couple questions though if you don't mind. 1. Do you restore these toys for your own collection or do you sell them? 2. If you do sell them, is it important to collectors/buyers to preserve as much originality as possible (original oaint, patina, parts, decals, etc.)? Thsnks.
dapat barang barangnya dari mana? keren banget...kalo di Indonesia mainan begini bahannya paling dari kayu, bambu..sekarang banyak plastik jadi ga bisa tahan lama..kalo ada museumnya waaah keren...
Just a friendly suggestion.....if you are going to use your "food" smoker as a drying oven for your powder coat projects, you should probably never use it for food again.
Great resto, I do find that powder paint - though a pleasing technique to watch - looks very wasteful, seems like 60% hits the object but 40% goes everywhere else, is it as messy to use as it looks?
Great work! Such patience. I wish my hands were as steady as yours. I'm a big fan of Eastwood's products. Do you mind providing a link to Toy Decals? I've got some Nylint toys that I'd like to take on, but each of them is missing one part or the other. Thank you!
Mrs. DIY is gonna get your behind for using her kitchen towels

I luv restoring vintage tin toys...so relaxing. ..smell of new paint on tin reminds me of childhood when I make sheat metal trucks

Love watching old "real" toys being restored.
Quite awesome.

I love your work restoring this vintage 1960'S Nylint FORD ECONOLINE PICKUP 🚚 TRUCK. Marvelous! ☺

@@joe_diy I LOVE IT!!!!
Joe DIY do more tonka toys 👻
I had one of those when I was a kid and then one day the M80's arrived.
Great work.
Yeah can't do that here ... mail goes through the front door here 😂🤣
@Totally Rad Dude I grew up in NZ with a "post box" but when I came to the UK getting used to post coming through the front door took some getting used too!
That turned out to be a wonderful restoration, Joe.
Fortunately, there are componies that make replacement parts.
Great job as usual. I would love 2 buy this one from you. My Grandpa had a 1964 Econoline pickup. I have always been a big fun of them. Have a blessed night. Keep doing what you do.
A beautiful restoration. Excellent work.
Well done. Excellent choice of colors. Better than the original color. The repro parts appear to be an excellent fit. Great project.
My Mother when I was a kid: That's about as interesting as watching paint dry.
Me today watching videos of paint drying.
Very nicely done... Dang Joe, I'm ready to go for a test drive...
Nice work! Looking foward to seeing your next project on video 📹 😀
Nicely done! It reminds me of my red and white '61 Econoline. And no, it wasn't a fire truck! Great choice for colors! 😎
Really super cool restoration of a limited time pickup. Your colors and detailing hot the nail on the head. Keep the videos coming in, thanks.
When the women bake the cookies, the man bake the Tonka toys. You do the great job, bro. The pickup is back to life.
Excellent job fun little pastime project.
That’s beautiful
Reminds me of my childhood
Very nice work. I don't know about the white tailgate, probably how it came from the factory, but I think I would have changed it to red like the main body... maybe found a Ford decal in the white.
Thanks! I was hesitant on the white tailgate but most of them had that so I figured why not.
Very impressive.. nice work on both the restoration AND the video production.
Aw man, those bumper rivets didn't flare themselves; let's see the process :) . Beautiful restoration! I'm subscribed!

Thats actually completely my fault. I dropped it a couple times. Product was great! no stickers
Thanks for the tip on using WD-40 to remove stickers. I'll try it next time!
Great job. I haven't used powder coating before. Can it be lightly sanded and polished back to shiny like auto paint ?
Raised from the earth from which it came - GREAT JOB :) !
Very professional job!

Antique but you make it awesome
Very cool, I really like these tin plate toys that are based on real vehicles rather than the generic looking stuff from the late 70's and 80's.
The "pressed steel" makes them very durable and prime candidates for restoration. They can take a real beating, and still be restorable.

@@galaxie500xl7 There is a type of drill bit that can easily remove spot welds with out any damage. Panel beaters use them, like myself.
Parabéns, bom trabalho, segue o mesmo estilo de outros restauradores.
Great job. I would rather have painted it the original though. I'm just old school. Still looked fantastic.
Original colour much better nevertheless still a brilliant job

You might want to create a ventilated powder coat area very simple to do all you need is a furnace filter and a small fan.
Nice work.

Just a friendly suggestion.....if you are going to use your "food" smoker as a drying oven for your powder coat projects, you should probably never use it for food again.
Don't worry, it's a dedicated curing oven now. Previous owner was the only one to smoke with it.
@@joe_diy I think using a food smoker is a great idea. I bought an Eastwood oven, and so far all our parts fit into it.
@@ourstoryyourstory Those things are great for small parts. I'm thinking of getting one so I don't have to fire up the big oven for everything.
