Very nice to see that you chose this song for your first reaction, it is one of my favourite songs from Band-Maid and I think it is very underrated. I think it is a masterpiece in terms of arrangement and development. It is one of their songs that makes me emotional. I also recommend their songs secret My lips, YOLO, One and Only, Bubble, and NO GOD.

Hello princess Aaliyah ... Saiki studied acting and dance as well as singing and uses it all when she performs. She has an odd and mesmerizing connection to the crowd ... and that really goes for all of our MAIDs. It is part of what makes BAND MAID special to many of us.

Welcome to Band-Maid Aaliyah! Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal).
The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. And they are the best live band I have ever witnessed!

    • @MrDportjoe
      @MrDportjoe 18 дней назад +2

Also worth noting that Miku fired herself as lead singer because she felt the band deserved a singer with more range than she brought to the mic. She then learned guitar from scratch to the point she now has some guitar solos. Not saying she is not a good singer just her range and tone did not mesh with her plan for a band that would dominate the music world.

    • @Davey-Boyd
      @Davey-Boyd 18 дней назад +2

@@MrDportjoe I agree, except Miku has both a higher range and a lower range than Saiki. But Miku's voice is very 'sweet' while Saiki has real power.

It might be worth adding mention that this particular video of Endless Story was the finale of not only a long show in a big arena, but also the end of a busy year of not only touring all over Japan, but also multiple visits to tour in the US for the occasion of the band's 10 year anniversary. Might help put some things into perspective.

    From Japan
BAND-MAID is a five-member girl rock band. This year marks their 12th anniversary. The members have not changed. They are a hard rock band and are considered by fans to be one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually have 23 songs and 2 hours of live performances. They were formed in Japan in 2013 by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Miku had experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara, Tokyo, and came up with the idea of playing cool music in maid outfits. That's why the band was named BAND-MAID. "Thrill" was their first music video in 2014, and six months later, it suddenly achieved 2 million views in two weeks, avoiding disbandment and deciding to become a hard rock band. They have also performed overseas and are gaining more fans. Currently, they write, compose, and arrange all of their songs themselves. They have 140 original songs. They have 60 songs published on their official You Tube, and all of them are killer songs.

Official videos are often not blocked.

And a thing about the maid outfits, Aaliyah: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids.
Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

Welcome, Aaliyah. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 220 million YT views, plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (144 songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 80 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ruclips.net/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/видео.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, You, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, The One, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Protect You, Sense, Different, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ruclips.net/video/7LB_EPS48HE/видео.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. ruclips.net/user/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts:

If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, live streams, CD, DVD/BD & merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

    Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 33 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 33 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 34 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 32 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.
    [BAND-MAID NEWS]
 BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the Acoustic Christmas 2021, ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Those concerts are two of the best produced & performed concerts ever recorded, IMO. bandmaidprime.tokyo
 The Maids SOLD OUT 2023 US & Mexico tour wrapped up and was a fantastic success. And so many great live fancams to watch! Their playing and antics were as fresh and fun to experience from first show to last. BRAVO Band-Maid!!!!! In addition, their Japan tour finished up with 13 concerts. Their 10th Anniversary Tour concluded at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26, 2023 and in Hong Kong Dec. 21! And their latest 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR SPIN OFF concert at KT ZEPP YOKOHAMA on February 22, 2024, where they played songs not performed at the 10th anniversary tour final at Yokohama Arena, was SOLD OUT, as usual!
     📢 Recent Announcements 📢
-- The Warning, a world-famous band from Mexico, and BAND-MAID recently completed their amazing 2-man, collab concert in Japan with the introduction of their new song and OMV, “Show Them.”
-- BAND-MAID released a new OMV, "Forbidden Tales," from their new album "Epic Narratives" that dropped Sept. 25, 2024. The founder of the band, Miku (vocal harmonies and rhythm guitar, main lyricist), came up with the concept of a hard rocking maid band and called the mixture of kawaii (cute) and Hard Rock The Gap, which is meant to create cognitive dissonance in those seeing them for the first time. But, as you no doubt appreciate here, musically they are maestros at composition and virtuosos on their instruments, while Saiki, the lead vocalist, shows off her talents well in this gorgeous song (ie, when sliding through 3 octaves at 6:12). Quite simply THE best Rock band on Earth. Gotta recommend a recent live performance (this one was in 2020), such as HATE? live from Yokohama Arena, which is on their YT channel. It is one of the greatest Rock performances of the 21st century.

    Welcome Home, Aaliyah!!🕊️
Congratulations on improving your life today!
Finding the Maids can be a life-changing experience of pure JOY! 🤩
The Maids are a remarkable collection of extraordinarily talented musicians who excel at every aspect of modern Rock music creation: Composition, Arrangement, Songwriting, Orchestration, Instrumentation, Recording, Production, Playing and Performance. If you stick with the journey, you’ll see it’s true.
BAND-MAID pulls in fans of all ages from all rock genres - pop-punk, emo, modern rock, classic rock, grunge, heavy metal; because the Maids are so talented and versatile with songs using elements of every rock style and genre imaginable! Many of their biggest fans are folks, of all ages, who also love the timeless artists like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, RUSH, YES, The Who, Santana, Toto, Steely Dan, Metallica, Dimash Quidebergen, etc….as we find many of the high-level musical qualities in the Maid’s music as well.
We like to say the Maids are their own genre. They are in fact on the (back) cover of the Japanese Rolling Stone magazine this month. They have a goal of (peaceful) World Domination through music; and are on their way. They’ve toured Europe and North America before; they’ve stayed in Japan for 2024, but expect them to make a tour stop near you in 2025!
As for more songs; 😂. It’s a bit of a joke with us Masters & Princesses (or Maidiacs, if you prefer), because, literally, the Maids are probably the single most PROLIFIC band at writing great song after great song - EVER. No kidding. They have 130+ songs across the rock music genre spectrum - we say they are their own genre. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Seriously, I’m not kidding - you’ll easily get 50-75 different song suggestions from 10 different people. And there’s a saying in the community; “Your favorite Band-Maid song is the next one you listen to.” 🤷🏻‍♂️
My contributions for the next song on your journey down the Band-Maid “Pigeon Hole” (😂) cover a diverse set of songs.
First, you must see these recent live releases starting with

Great reaction! "Wonderland" is a song where the vocals stand out, so it's a great choice for you. Other recommended songs include the acoustic version of "Catharsis" and the mid-tempo song "about Us." Please continue to do BAND-MAID from now on😊

As Miku would say, "Welcome home Princess".
This song a a few others I can mention really push the vocal team as there are few places to get the breath before they need to push out the higher notes.
Saiki's voice when mixed with Miku's is a true twin vocal. Miku picks the low, high octaves and counter harmony to Saiki.
At times you could be forgiven to think that it is an added effect to Saiki's voice but it is Miku.
Sometimes Kanami the lead guitarist joins with her own voice which is on the same pitch as Miku.
This is a beautiful arrangement of one of their earlier songs.

Happy Birthday. Band-Maid is a present that keeps on giving, seeing that they have such a deep catalog of music that seems as endless as it is magnificent. Saiki is one of those vocalists whose breath control looks so effortless that you stop thinking about it. That vocal skill is the result of lots and lots of vocal coaching: she had to learn how to do it.

  • @WilliamHallisey

    A belated happy birthday 🎉
Just so you know, Saiki hasn’t always been the technical vocalist she is today - during early Band-Maid years she sang with complete abandon and pretty much destroyed her voice to the point of needing surgery. We’ve always known she’s had the pipes and the range, but what you hear today is a testament to hard work.
Keep doing you, and keep repping girl! 🇵🇭❤

If someone were to ask for a Band Maid song that highlights Saiki’s voice? Of over 130 songs, I would recommend “Wonderland.” What are the chances that you picked this song? Crazy luck? 🍀 Magic?
Whatever the reason, welcome Princess Aaliyah to Band Maid ❤
You picked up on several of Saiki’s strengths. After polyp surgery, she actually gained strength and range. But it’s her air support that amazes me. She’s seems almost superhuman at times. I hope you continue your journey with Band Maid.
One of her most challenging songs, especially live, is “I can’t live without you.” Here’s a recent performance with captions:

Band-Maid is one of those unique bands that has diversity yet has such unmistakable sound.
I guarantee you that Band-Maid will take you on a fun, exciting musical journey with lots of surprises.
Saiki's forte actually isn't the vocal range (Miku the rhythm guitarist / second vocalist has slightly wider range)
But yes, she can go low to high in a seemingly effortless way, then she often starts machine-gun rapping, going off time, etc while still expressing emotions, which is required in this band because the composition can be very rhythmically tricky (fun for us to listen to though).

Nice video - welcome to Band-Maid! Miku (the guitarist and other singer with the red rose) founded Band-Maid, and originally she was going to be the lead singer. She had won a national competition/audition in Japan to become a Idol singer, and when that small group broke up, she came up with the idea for B-M. But right after starting, they realized for the kind of hard-rock sound they were going for, her voice didn't have that kind of character, so Saiki was brought in as lead.
However, what it means is, Band-Maid's 'backup' singer is really a '2nd lead singer', who could easily front many other bands, and has her own Band-Maid songs where she is lead. But she produces amazing harmonies with Saiki in almost every song! Their pairings is one of the things that makes this band so amazing and addicting to listen to! Thank you for the great vid, and Happy Birthday!

Aaliyah you have a beautiful voice, thanks for listening to Band Maid one of my favorite bands! Saiki the lead singer had polyps removed from her vocal cords in 2017, after 2 years of her nursing her voice, fortunately she had a good surgeon and surgery went well. Hi, Aaliyah. Merry X-Mas. I'm fan of Band-Maid, of Hard-Rock and others genre of musics like Classical. And also i love opera's singers. Natalie Dessay is a famous soprano from my country, France. Rock and classical can match and is nice that you react to the voice of Saiki. Wonderland is one of the most beautiful songs in the Band-Maid repertoire. Japan has a lot of talented singers and i could to signal you, Hasami, from the metal band Lovebites (even if i'm not fan) because she has a beautiful lyric voice. Thanks

If you would like to analyze Saiki's "emotional" range in her singing, I suggest you compare two different versions of the same song by Band-Maid. The song is"Puzzle". First react to "Puzzle",the official live version from the Tokyo Zepp Theatre and then "Puzzle", the official live acoustic version, from a different concert. While both songs have the same melody and lyrics, Saiki's heartbreaking singing in the acoustic version will probably make you shed a tear. I did.

I really enjoyed your knowledge and appreciation of Saiki. Others will probably tell you that she had polys removed in the past. Check out her documentary where they go I little more in depth. My son is a voice teacher and singer/performer himself. He enjoyed hearing about her surgery because he was trained to protect and heal voices. I probably worded that wrong, but like yourself he has expertise with singing.

Thank you for getting around to the world of Japanese Rock and Metal.... I've been recommending these since you started your channel.
    I hope you will continue this.journey .
A little info. KISS toured Japan in the 1970s and 2 young kids saw them... they were so impressed they formed X Japan... X Japan created the concept Visual Kei, where the look and performance were all part of the show, like KISS. Many Japanese bands are Visual Kei... Band Maid with the Maid outfits is an example....

Add to this, the live acoustic version of "Puzzle" from their concert in Zepp Tokyo (2018). And if you're going here, continue listening to the follow up number, "Anemone". In between these two songs, there's a bit of banter between the singers and the audience. Just keep this interlude running until "Anemone" begins. I think it'll be worth the time.
