This wonderful quartet drew me irresistibly to the greatness of Haydn as a marvellous composer, 45 years ago!

In his op. 33; Haydn told that he had found a new style for writing quartets. We can here judge the improvements made wrt previous quartets. The interpretetion is outstanding.

You left out the funniest joke of all! The last time the theme comes around, you're supposed to play the first two measures softly and then the next two suddenly loudly. I'm familiar with the bowdlerizations of the trio in Symphony no. 101, but this is the first instance I've heard of bowdlerizing this quartet.

This Quartet is known as "The Bird" - answers as to why on a postcard card please. :-)

I would guess the trio in the scherzo.
