You're really intelligent for a 15 year old! Well done for quitting! I'm 28 feel like I've wasted 6 years of my life comparing myself and wasting time on social media!
I definitely feel you! I’ll be turning 25 next month and I feel the same way I recently deactivated my social media temporarily and deleted the apps and I been off for about two weeks, I’m not too sure how long the break will be but it’ll be for a good while!
That’s so good to hear! I’m glad you have started living a happier life :) I agree completely, I used to stay up for hour on social media, it was horrible for my sleep.
It's like a drug. The first few weeks after quitting are the hardest. You're constantly struggling to fight the urge to get back on it. But if you can get through this period with determination and strong will, it starts to bother you less and less as time passes and you'll never know when you've got over it. Life becomes peaceful. You become way more productive.
I completely agree! Time only makes it easier. I have recently been taking another break and I forgot how nice it was without it. Started reading and editing more, I really have to take my own advice! :)
Also something I noticed about Instagram is the minute I went on it and saw all these "prettier" girls who had "better" clothes than mine, and see that I lost one follower, I would immediately fall into this sad state to the point where I felt like I wanted to cry. It's horrible
Yep, and what's worse is we've conditioned ourselves to think we need it! Trust me when something brings you only negativity, your life is better without it.
You are so brave. I’m 22 and I just decided to finally quit a few months ago. It’s hard but it is definitely worth it. I can read and focus on my career 🧘♀️. Also I pay attention to the meaningful relationships I have💜
That’s great! I’m so proud of you, I think it’s important for everyone to take a break and really remember what’s important to them. I’m glad you are finding happiness 💛
I am 14 and a Gen Z teenager. That means i grew up with a phone on my hand. I remember learning how to do things at the computer (search for friv, visit my dad's gmail account etc) at only 3-4 years old. At 13, after realizing what social media has done to me, i decided to delete tik tok and snap, and just a week ago instagram, twitter and everything else too. I only kept messaging apps such as Whatsapp and Discord to communicate with my friends. I hear every single day things like ''why u deleted everything'' or ''get back your account before it's too late'' or even ''u HAVE to make a new account and redownload your social'' Like ok jimmy thank you for your unnecessary opinion, but i dont have to redownload instagram because u said so. I am not going back to my old habits just because they are familiar.
This takes an incredible amount of strength. Don’t give up! When I first quit everyone was like you have to go back on and said similar things. Then when I got to college everyone was like you need to social media to make friends and stay connected. Trust me, don’t listen to them and focus on what makes YOU happy. I was still able to make friends without social media and the people I’ve met I have such a strong and genuine connection with that I would not have gotten from social media. Good luck with everything and know that there is sooo much more to life than looking at your phone screen! :) I’m glad you commented and I wish you the best! You got this!
Staying away from social media made noticable change in my life. There was a time when I used to compete for self improvement with others. Sometimes it took me ahead sometimes I didn't take action. This video was motivating btw
I honestly relate to this video..and I'm 17 and finally brave enough to quit after 3 Years of toxicity leading me to the point of breakdown after all . It's been only a few months since I've quit but I hope it goes on forever ☺️. Love you loads 💗
You just proved something I always tell my friends...you can learn things from those younger than you, older people don't know it all. This was a great video! Thank you for this.
I’m a 40-something year old woman watching your video because I’m also struggling with social media. I think you made a great choice. Hope life has gone well for you!
Thank you, this is the most comprehensive and honest video on quitting social media I’ve seen! So looking forward to deleting these energy draining apps!
Hey Jasmine! Your video just popped up on my recommended and I'm so happy it did. I was 16 in junior year of HS when I deleted my instagram and snapchat (~2017). It was much harder in high school (than post-HS/college/adult life), but I felt like I finally left a club I never wanted to be in in the first place. To anyone out there struggling to make the switch (especially if you're in middle/high school), remember how big of a world there is out there! When it feels like everyone around you is chronically online/on social media, step back and switch the lens on life. When you make and sustain genuine connections without the aide of social media (not to mention social media strains relationships more than it strengthens), you'll see social media for what it is- an attention-getting algorithm that loves insecurity and dependence.
I feel the same way that you once did about being on social media. I'd get depressed over how many likes everyone else did on their photos while I was lucky if I got even one! It's grown to the point that I'm seriously beginning to think about calling it quits on Facebook.
I deleted it off my phone and only log in once in a while but when I do log in and being on it for just 10 minutes I always end up feeling like shit. I compare myself to everyone, thinking they have such perfect pictures going to all these cool places doing all these things with all these friends, it’s just too much comparing that I do and it leaves me so depressed. Whenever I’m not on it I’m so much happier and feel so much better about myself it’s crazy what an app can do to your mental health
I dont have social media for 8 years but i dont know if i have to go back to facebook because of work in the future. Ive been cyberbullied in 2013 thats why the trauma is still there. But I forgave them already to what theyve done. Yes it is a must to leave a social media!!!
I am so sorry to hear of your negative past with social media. I applaud you for knowing when to step away and for prioritizing your own health. Good luck in the future!
@@jasminewhelan Its Okay. Yes, Im doing it for the better. But I have still addiction from time to time to pornography. Im trying to be productive and doing my best not to do it. Im currently practicing Nofap and currently doing strong. Im day 1 of Nofap but it is possible to progress.
This is why I don’t have social media. In a former workplace my colleagues spread rumours about me and my family from information they got from my social media accounts. Because of the trauma from that I can’t bring myself to have social media again.
Yeah, I totally relate to what you said. My productivity went high as well as my self-care. My confidence was like: "I am so pretty. Why would anyone think I'm not because I am so beautiful. Crap on them if they think of me ugly and I don't care"
Yoo”so Jaz what we gonna think about today”😂😂😂 I’m weakkk. This was an extremely relatable video, talked about a lot of things people struggle with. Ima delete social media once I leave for college just to focus on thing I need to accomplish Nd limit distractions

34 here ✌️. I've done multiple social media detoxes. But this time I need some huge changes regarding social media because I feel being destroyed inside. Many thanks for the video.
Good video. My hubby says well if you quit, did you go back because you might just have been addicted? If so, could going back just be a setback? He said it sounds like it could be a pattern to go back to your old habits? If so, won't you fall back into the same toxic experiences that made you quit in the first place? Food for thought.
Congrats to you! I just use social media for my business and art. But people wont support you that much if you are not scrolling or liking their photos from time to time either. Or if you are not in their algorithm. Anyways that's socialmedia ,maybe just need to promote my business better, btw you are pretty
Thank you, you're so sweet!! Yes, unfortunately sometimes social media is a necessary evil but congrats for not using it for personal use and good luck with your business and art!
Instagram made me feel insecure of myself. Like I saw a lot of handsome guys dress up really good, have tattoos and bodybuilding. Sometimes I would into the mirror and think that I should have looked like them. But then when I left Instagram for a really long time(like 2 years?) my mental state have gotten better. My confidence level went really high ever since I left Instagram. And also with Tiktok, like why is everyone hyping up that app? I watched a video about a girl showing body positivity on Tiktok,I read the comment sections and Jesus Christ they were cyberbullying the girl and what’s even worse is that their comments get 8 to 10K likes- That app was basically a total dumpster.
I absolutely hate stories on Instagram cause i have to keep up with everyones stories and its too much!! Too much overestimation with the constant scrolling through my home feed and the stories. Its like AAAAAAAAH STOOOP!! my brain fries everytime i scroll through a story reel with the bombarded of posts on top of that. Instagram is too much. I sit down for one second and everyone has already posted a ton of stories. While i barely have the energy to make a reel.
I don’t think being on social media influences you envying your friends. Even if you’re not on social media there will be people who will be better at things or have more friends etc. I understand where you come from but I recommend you working more on the fact that you shouldn’t compare yourself to anyone no matter if real life or social media. That’s not healthy and just deleting social media and ignoring it won’t make it better. I think it’s a bit rude to blame that on social media. It seems more like an internal issue and lack of confidence and you can totally work on that. I agree that social media is not healthy but you can use it for yourself without comparing and you’ll have fun :)
I never had Facebook so luckily that was one less thing I had to give up. But as far as social media goes I think Facebook is pretty similar in that you can get addicted really quickly :(
