    I got my first DPM jacket which was 68 pattern I think, in 1972, I got 85 after that it was sub standard, and 95 to finish my service, The First looked the best on the parade ground with olive green lightweights..The 95 I personally thought was the most operationally practical ( though I frequently wore an SAS type smock when I could get away with it). Thanks for the memories.

      Awesome ! ..thanks so much for sharing the memories from your service sir ! . Yeah I love the 1968 jackets and they will always remain my all time favourites ! The SAS versiion was a much superior smock but I still prefer the standard "68 ! Very best wishes to you for a relaxing weekend !!

    I was issued 2 of these in bassingbourne in 1997, exchanged for S95 kit once I got to battalion. Great smock until they were wet!

    I also have one of these smocks, as well as the fleece jacket. I do like the later DPM pattern and the pocket space is very useful. Probably the shortest lifespan of any British DPM smocks as these were only really issued between 1992 - 1994 (but, of course, used by serving soldiers for a lot longer). The earlier 85 patterns were terrible but, having said that, I do like the later version with the improved pockets. I bought my 90 pattern smock in a charity shop, it is almost brand new and I don't wear it much. Actually, I still prefer the old US M65 or the 68 pattern smock over this one, even though it is such a great design. As for the green fleece, I wear mine all the time around the house in the winter. Again, a charity shop find for me. Great video.

    • @JimTimber
      @JimTimber  8 месяцев назад

      Cheers my friend ! I concur !!..the older smocks are much more my bag.. but this old 90 pattern is a sort of 'halfway house' to the later 95.. and I really like the 'para smock' style plastic version of the zip ! In a way that jacket takes the best out of everything that came before.. but I agree the later jackets are much better.. and the earlier ones (apart from that clown's 85 version 🤪🤡) a lot more appealing to wear as a classic !! I really miss the UK charity shops.. everything here in my area is a feckin' charity !! lol.. and I used to have the catchphrase back when I lived in the UK 'I have a branch of my tailors in every town' (referring to the old Saville Row snobs !! lol) ..but I was talking about the charity shop Oxfam !! lol '😁Hope all is well bro ..and a massive bowl of food for Shadow.. bless him !! 🐾

      @@JimTimber Nah, the cat is doing fine with food. He's been catching mice in the garden next door and leaving them for me at the back door! A new charity shop opened up in town just this week, more tat for me to buy! The ones here have some decent military stuff from time to time. Recently, Oxfam had some British WWII metal 'TANK' shoulder tabs - not my thing so I left them. They also had a late pattern 85 smock recently, but in a small size so, again, I didn't bag it. I mostly buy books in the charity shops these days. I'm not ashamed to say that I buy clothing (outer only, no underwear or shoes!!) in the charity shops - makes my money go so much further.

    When did Soldier 90 with fabric tabs to secure the buttons introduced? Like the Canadian jackets.

    • @JimTimber
      @JimTimber  6 месяцев назад

      That was designed in the early 1990's tabbed as 'Canadian buttons' (because they were invented in Cananda) and introduced into the British S95 pattern jackets (Soldier 1995) ..they are still held onto today in the current MTP pattern.. 'Multi Terrain Pattern,' ..thanks for watching !!

    the "poachers pocket" in the arse of the jacket was so the jacket could be rolled/folded up to make a pillow when in a billet or 10-man tent on cots. and sleeping in your sleeping bag and would be out of your outer wear for the nights sleep.

    • @JimTimber
      @JimTimber  7 месяцев назад
