We used to sleep with our rifle like it was our girlfriend Andy. Ha ha! A sweet jacket mate - my dad used to wear his painting the house. I would love to have that now. I reckon my mum threw it out not realizing it was a gem. Thanks for sharing bro. Mark
Practical piece of kit and probably my favorite item type in your uniform collection. Yeah, the SAS didn't use slings and actually, in some cases, removed the sling swivels completely. The rational was that the weapon would thus be always in the hand, ready for use. I remember reading a lively discussion in Soldier of Fortune (a US magazine for merc types back in the 80s) whether the SAS way was the best, with the general consensus amongst the arm chair mercs being that a sling was a necessary item most of the time. Personally, even back then I thought that the SAS knew what they were doing and didn't rely too much on the views of some fat ex-army buggers in California who 'advised' Central American rebels! Plus, slings make an awful clatter - if you watched my recent video all that clattering came not from the deact but from the metal fittings on the sling!

I used to paint them and they all looked like they had sunburn as the pink face paint I jused was way too lurid !! lol I used to buy SOF as a kid and pour over all the ads for various bits of kit that were totally off limits in the UK ! Best thing about being on exercise in the 90's as standard military you could wear goucci kit .. you'd take that smock and get the cuffs tailored in camp for knitted cuffs made from a buckshee pair of heavy wool socks
@JimTimber haha yeah use clean ones .. yes exactly like a para smock.. we used to put tape over the button stitching too .. the 1st comment should have read while in Germany.. they seemed to have more of a stick up the ass over on exercise in the UK.. Heck we couldn't exercise at a weekend in Germany and would Grill and drink while cammed up

Can't say I've known anyone use the poachers to stow the coat it's not a kangaroo pouch and you'd stow it in a dry bag ..
