I never waste my time with the "what is and what isn't metal" discussion. And I especially don't care about what subgenre of metal a band belongs to. I keep it simple. If it sounds good to my ears. I listen to it. I give zero fucks about anything beyond that.

I dont consider myself metalhead even though my favorite genres are rock punk and metal with rock being first. I like 99% of music. I consider myself music fan(As Buckley once said: Music fan is guy who has his favorite genre but can listen mostly everything)

+Marko Galic I 100% agree with this. I listen to pretty much everything as well but Metal is my favourite genre. I also listen to Country and Rap on a constant basis. I'm not lying either. Garth Brooks and Brad Paisley are two of my favourite country artists, having seen both of them twice in concert. Nas, Eminem and Hopsin are 3 of my favourite rappers as well and I listen to them all of the time. I just wish more people could be open minded when it comes to music though.

I love metal a lot and rock also but not all tho I don't like death metal a lot but I like classic rock like Credence Clearwater Revival or The Animals but even though rock is my favorite genre I still will listen to country and pop and since I'm Hispanic I listen to this music called Cumbia or Salsa. A person that is a MetalHead for me it's someone that just hates any other genre but that's just my opinion.

    • @LurchyScott
      @LurchyScott 8 лет назад

Miguel Guerra I disagree. I call myself a metalhead but as stated above, I love Country and Rap...a lot. I just call myself a metalhead because it's what I am. I love metal and it is my favourite genre. You shouldn't have such a negative opinion over a few sour apples. I get where that dislike comes from though.
A lot of metalheads are just like me.

Heavy metal is being invaded by toxic fandoms, here is how:
    1) they tend to force the bands to stay in the heavy roots (as musical style change for some bands would bring them down and make them angry and criticize the bands)
    2) they tend to brag about themselves to the extreme without reciprocating the feeling of other fans from different genres
    3) recklessness and mediocrity of the metalheads
    4) agressive and evil attitudes

As a heavy metal fan I can say that not every metal fan is like this. There are plenty of us out there who are the exact opposite of what's described in this video. Some of the kindest people I know are also metal fans. There ARE a lot of fans out there who give the rest of us a bad name, but there are also those of us who ARE like a family. Also, I don't just listen to heavy metal. I listen to a little bit of everything. Rock, Rap, even a little bit of Country and other styles of music that are the polar opposite of metal.

  • @MartiniScreamz

2 people i hate in metal fans Scene Kids and Elitest
i'll just do my definitions so you get the message
Scene Kid = Some kids who listen to stuff like blood on the dance floor and brokencyde but then attach themselves to metalcore and deathcore when really they don't listen to it and it gives metalcore and deathcore a bad name.
Elitest = someone who believes that they're genres are the best and don't count others even as metal cause they don't like them, tend to be metalcore deathcore and nu metal they dislike and apparently "not metal"
well i think these people are ridiculous i like
    slayer
    judas priest
    asking alexandria
    motorhead
    bullet for my valentine
    suicide silence
    carnifex
    Children of Bodom
    Avenged Sevenfold
    Korn
    Slipknot
    Saxon
Basically metals metal whatever sub genre.. a true metal fan keeps an open mind about most genres of metal gives things a proper try before judging and doesn't be a complete dick if they don't like a certain band or genre..

***** BECAUSE IT'S BOTH METAL COB = Melo Deth
      Asking Alexandria = Metalcore
Asking are on the metal side of it rather than the hardcore side of it, and they're lyrics are kinda emo but so what they're just writing about their own experiences.. i love metalcore but as an all round metal fan i'd say their new album the black would benefit in some songs without the breakdowns.. they should try and be more like bodom but incorperate the catchy choruses in their music

    • @MartiniScreamz
      @MartiniScreamz 8 лет назад

***** some metal fans might not like Asking because it's simplistic in some ways I on the other hand think thats what makes them so good they still make some addictive riffs even though they're not amazing instrumentalists and make some good songs, that in it's self is musical talent. i'm not gonna lie they are one of my favourite bands and i'm not ashamed of it at all. METAL FOR LIFE \m/
btw if you want to criticise i'm 19 years old so take it easy on me

I feel like metal is one of those genres that needs to be understood. Yes, you can listen to it for the cool drum beats or guitar solos. But a large portion of the metal fans listen to it because for whatever reason, they gravitated to the aggressiveness and the fury of it. But at the end of the day, who cares what other people listen to! My favorite metal sub genre is thrash. But I'll admit there's a few BvB songs I actually enjoy listening to.

Maybe in the 80s and early 90s people looked at metal fans as dangerous or as u said “scary” But in today’s age and really since the mid 90s no one looks at metal people as threatening anymore. The whole “ Metalheads are bad asses!” Card got pulled a long time ago and if you see someone wearing a Deicide or Iron Maiden Shirt today you can pretty much go beat the shit out of them and take their weed if you want they’re not gonna do a goddamn thing back. Not saying I would condone beating someone up and taking their weed just because they are a metal fan but if you were looking for a target like that they’re a pretty safe bet. It’s like one of the little ankle biter puppies that’s growling and acts like a bad ass but you know you could put like a football. Don’t do that either dogs are cool.
I love metal music but I can’t stand metal fans. They don’t really bother me because I don’t have any in my life anymore so other than social media that’s the only time I see them but every time I do it reminds me why I don’t hang out with them. When I was getting into metal in the late 80s and early 90s I was very against all the judge mental people out there that judge metal heads based on appearance and what type of music they listen to but honestly over the years I started to realize that unless I go looking for those people it’s not like there’s a shit ton of people out here that think metalheads are scary and satanic and are out here doing bad things. Sadly I came to find out that the most judge mental people that judge people based on what type of music they listen to and how they dress or actually the metal community. Now I’m not saying there aren’t people in other walks of life that aren’t judgmental because they’re a judge mental people of every race religion and music fandom you can think of but you are kidding yourself if you don’t think that metal heads are the actual worst at this. No one is more judgmental towards people based on stupid things like what kind of music you listen to than the metal community. Yeah I might have Slayer or Hatebreed or Metallica or Black Sabbath or Corrosion of Conformity in my car but you’re not going to see me around any of these other people. The last band I was in I quit because we had to have a band meeting because I also like sports and hip-hop music. Now I can understand if I went over to my bandmates house and made them watch a football or basketball game while listening to Tupac but when I realized we were actually wasting valuable practice time, I was the only one that had a career and I traveled but I made it a point to always be there for two practices a week, because of entertainment that I enjoyed on my free time that didn’t involve them that’s when I knew that I’m done with this bullshit.
Bottom line people don’t like metal heads because so many of them come off judge mental and it’s the only genre of music were you can be on Facebook and have some guy in his 50s start replying to you in a comment section that you’re a poser because you were talking to someone that might like the Metallica song sad but true. Who gives a shit! It’s fine if people in the metal community don’t like any type of music but what’s not OK is harassing people like they owe you fucking money and thinking they’re a bad person based on musical preference. That’s why people don’t like fans of metal anymore. No one thinks they’re dangerous no one thinks they’re scary no one thinks they’re in some satanic gang they’re just annoying people who cry and complain and won’t leave people the fuck alone about shit. I’m not saying all of us are like this, I’m not and I do know a couple of other really cool metal fans but they’re like me they don’t hang out with a big group of other metal fans because why would you? This is the same group of people that wonder and are so depressed because they don’t have a girlfriend but they can’t see the reason they don’t I have a girlfriend doesn’t have anything to do with them liking metal music it’s that that’s the only fucking thing they know they can talk about. It’s music for crying out loud if that’s your whole life, what kind of music you listen to is literally your entire life and you have nothing else to add other than conspiracy theories than no no one‘s gonna wanna be around you not because you’re scary but because they are annoying.

Number one is definitely the one that irritates me the most. News flash to all the metalheads who think like this, great music is NOT limited exclusively to metal. Another thing that's been personally getting on my nerves as of late is the increased obsession with technicality and complexity. So many of us are judging music purely based on how difficult it is to play instead of whether or not it sounds awesome or whether or not it strikes a chord with us emotionally which is how music should be judged.

I think part of the reason why the in-flighting, elitism, and those special case exclusionary people came into existence is because of reasons 3, and 4. Metal has been attacked by the media and society because it's pushing boundaries in one way or another. We all want to be validated. We all want to feel like our feelings are important. When we feel like we are attacked, we feel defensive, and one way people defend themselves is by invalidating someone else.

I have experienced metal as very inclusive, yes there is some elitism, but most of that is tongue in cheek. Most dont mean it. Metal is one big family, I mean at a metal festival, you can ask a complete stranger if he can keep your drunken-self from falling of a cliff when you take a piss and they actually do it. Try that at a Justin Bieber concert...

Have you done a 5 Reasons why people hate Deathcore? I'm not sure if you said this or not or got really close to the point, but I hate when people say you can't be a metalhead if you like other genres of music. For example, I really enjoy Bob Marley from time to time. Does that make me any less of a metalhead? I don't think it should because you like what you like. I also know some heavy metal fans that also listen to country, does that mean they're any less of a metalhead? No, but some people don't seem to get that.

+DiscipleOfSound The problem I notice is the ignorance from the people on the outside looking in though. I'm sure all of us have heard the stereotypical: "OMG!!! You listen Metal? It's nothing but ggrrrrrr brrwaoaoaa noise. How do you listen to that?" It can be quite annoying and irritating. There are few who I have talked to who don't generalize the genre and just say: I don't know much about it but there are a lot that do though. There is a part of me that is glad when people don't converse with me when it comes to metal because I then don't have to get annoyed and have to explain to them: You know, not all Metal sounds like that right? In my older age I've just gotten sick of having to do that.

Many of my friends are metal heads. I listen to everything, including a bunch of metal, but I'm def not a metal head. IMO (please don't hate me) its silly, and dumb. It's all people whom are sad about childhood trauma. It's very sensitive subject matter, but it usually a death of an elder, or the complete opposite... An evil elder whom they wished death upon. Either way, I see my metal head friends as people whom take themselves wayyy to seriously about because it was such a strong coping mechanism for them to live on.
They were raised religious, bad things happened, so now they listen to music that talks about dark subject matter. It sometimes turns into a deep narcissistic state where you think nobody understands your pain or why you take the music you listen to so seriously. SO you drink, litter, and become a degenerate.
There are also the musicians, some metal has the most difficult music to lay on the planet. So everybody that listens are actually just other musicians coming from all different places. Usually positive, guitar lessons since they were 4 with musician parents. These are metal heads to me. so enough, the violin kid that loves the technical side has a beer with the dirty sad boy, and begins to drift away, usually towards punk because they think others humans are stupid too, but they don't have that stupid ego meatheads have.

Most metalheads give heavy metal a bad name because of the way they act. Many of them are Godless, immoral, and hedonistic. I just went to a Judas Priest concert last night, and so many of the people there were cussing and smoking marijuana and just looked downright trashy with their apparel. And then they wonder why normal people look at heavy metal and metal fans with disdain. Really? You people really wonder why? Even the guy in this video, for some reason, feels the need to use profanity and an explicit sexual reference. It’s a shame, because I’m a huge metal fan, and I love heavy metal FOR THE MUSIC. I think it’s a very creative genre of music and has a lot of value.

Whether it's kids that go or Alt Press making 10+ minute fashion/makeup tutorial videos, a lot of kids that go to Warped Tour just liking whatever band is currently trendy at the time/adhering to whatever fashion standards are current. It's also VERY commercialized now, any music festival is going to be commercialized and any culture including Heavy Metal will have certain music/fashion trends but, at Warped Tour it seems elevated to a much higher extent. It's a TOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN of fun going there but, there are things in the whole culture surrounding it I don't care for and, a lot of kids that go are also those tumblr SJW people that I can't stand.

Maybe the number 1 reason is that metal fans hate each others and also other people. You cannot blame only fans. Van Halen vs. David Lee Roth, Ozzy vs. Dio/Black Sabbath, Metallica vs. Megadeth are the best known battles between old band mates. They all started in the 80's. There was battles before and sure after. And fans love taking action. They also attack Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, and Selena Gomez. That's why Metallica cannot sell platinum in USA before 6 months after the album has been released. It took Taylor Swift 4 days to sell platinum. You probably say that metal is marginal music. Yeah, and do you know why? If not - read this message again!

I am a kind of person who loves listening to music, every kind of music, but i prefer rock and metal genre, even though i don't consider myself a metalhead. These obsessed metal fans are annoying as F, because they tend to criticize other genres , also INTERNAL metal genres, so f annoying. I like also rap, hip hop, and some trap fringe, the japanese one, for example, and these people stigmatize me as a 'poser'. Community is a term that has to be synonome of 'Inclusivity', as a family or friends, but in metal community i see only hate.

I am not a metal head. Don't try to be, never claimed to be. However, I think I can offer a unique perspective. Please note: I said unique. Not good or better or worse or bad. Just different and unique.
That being said, I love the fuck out of PanterA, BLS, HELLYEAH, and THC.
Fans of those bands have been very accepting of me. For the most part. You get assholes and purists in every group but, I have found most metal heads to be great people.
What I've seen on the internet, is a mostly welcoming community. Provided that you actually like the music. I have been able to enter some online groups with a basic enjoyment of the music, and have found that the fans are all too willing and eager to help me expand my knowledge of the band and the music. Sure, some get annoyed at a n00b but, like I already said: You get assholes in every sector of society.
The biggest recurring theme I have noticed is love. Nearly unconditional love. If you're not a piece of shit causing problems in the world, metal heads love you. Provided that you love the music.
When I saw Black Label Society on the Grimmest Hits tour, there was a girl from a fan website asking for protection at the show because her husband couldn't be there and wouldn't let her go by herself. He was worried she'd be hurt or molested in a mosh pit. No, he's not a metal music fan.
No less than 10 of us dudes took the time to speak with him at length and reassure him that we would meet his wife and serve as her body guards. We schooled him about the Black Label family.
I was the only one who didn't have a meet and greet ticket so, everybody else got in before me, and I was never able to link up. I did however find out later that this lady's body guard detail eventually grew to 15 guys and 3 other chicks. The females were surrounded, protected, and kept safe.
That's love right there. And respect for your fellow human beings.
Alissa White-Gluz has said that she wants to jump off of a stage and join a mosh pit but, she doesn't do it because she doesn't want to get molested.
I've seen this as a growing concern for female metal fans, and I would hope that the metal community would do more to fix this growing fear.
At the Black Label show, I spoke to every dude within 30 feet of me in between bands.
The only females I spoke to were some guy's wife, and their 20-something year old daughter. Yeah, she was hot but, I treated her with dignity and respect, and her parents loved me.
Not far behind us, there was an argument that led to dudes shoving each other. The girl's mother and father closed in on her to protect her from her back and her left. Me and the guy next to me stepped in to protect her from her right side. Then, there was a few more dudes who circled around us once they realized there was a young female in a slightly dangerous situation. In all, I think it was about 6 or 8 of us, plus her parents.
When the moshing broke out, I'd say 10 of us circled around this little family to keep them from getting hurt. I even took an elbow our something to the side of the head that knocked me into this girl's father. He caught me, yelled into my ear to make sure I was alright, and we all kept on head banging and stomping our feet.
Overall, everybody had a fucking great time. This little family took me and 3 other dudes out for dinner after the show for helping to keep their daughter safe.
And Zakk was on fucking fire that night! 🤘🏻😈🤘🏻
I see shit like that, and I can only see a group of people who genuinely love and care for one another.
I've seen moshers go down, and the same people who put them down are the ones picking them up and making sure they're okay. Personally, I still think moshing is fucking stupid but, that's still love to pick each other up like that.
I see metal heads helping each other get through life.
If a metal head is struggling with drugs, alcohol, death of a friend or family member, trouble at work, etc., the metal community will reach out via the internet to pick that person up and dust them off.
I've seen metal heads send money to help buy kids birthday presents.
I see metal music bringing out the best qualities of humanity in metal music fans.
I've seen and heard stories of fans of other genres of music kicking each other when they're down, or just not giving a fuck.
What I see, as an outsider, is that most metal heads are some of the nicest people with the biggest hearts.
Now that I've started getting into a little bit of shit like Arch Enemy and Amon Amarth, I have found those fans to be reluctantly inclusive of me. They don't mind me hanging around fan sites but, they wouldn't stop me from leaving, either.
I've also been verbally assaulted because I'm not a true metal head so, it's a very exclusive community.
    Whatever.
I still like what I like, and fuck everybody else's opinions of me or my music.
When you're at a metal concert, you're not an individual. You're a part of one mass of inseparable bodies all moving, breathing, head banging, foot stomping, and fist pumping as one entity, bonded by the metal.
    *LONG LIVE HEAVY FUCKIN METAL!*
