Exactly. I listen to what I like to call ironic J-Pop. Where they make a J-Pop sounding song but with funny weird lyrics or when it's an anime opening talking about the anime itself and not a cheesy love song. For example backstreet girls opening.
5 for me, would also be "you're just a metalhead because you think it makes you look cool or hardcore" Yes, the genre that only I in this large group of people listen to makes me cool, doesn't it? Thats why I listen to it, to win the appeal of the people aropund me who don't listen to it. Please, cut me a break.
i've known the odd metalhead who felt the only way to go was to "live the lifestyle", where everything they do is related to metal, and that's all they listen to. i see that as extremely limiting and close-minded. i think that being a well-rounded person is more important. in fact, if you listen to jazz, classical, folk, etc as well... you can see and appreciate those influences in metal. an interesting history to metal and its growth and transformation.
Number 3 is the main reason i don't label myself as a metalhead, i love metal, LOVE it but i also love classic rock (The beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, The Doors...) and many more. I love these genres about equally so calling myself a metalhead doesn't seem right
I agree with #3 completely. I love my share of metal. But some of my favorite bands arent metal like Rush, Yes, Billy Joel, Cheap Trick. What I hate though is when people say that they only like music because its heavy. I like music that shows talent and creativity while still keeping true to the musicality concept of using real instruments
David "VC" Miller This is so true. I can go from Oranssi Pazuzu to Elvis Presley quickly. And many people think that "muurhhg he only listens to yelling ugh"
Let's get this on a shirt: "I'm a violent uncaring edgy nerd who was lead to drug abuse by metal, and yet I hate every other genre, and worship the devil!" Hahaha but on a serious note, I ain't watching the fucking Notebook, and I'm about 90% sure my girlfriend would also say "fuck that shit"
Dude, I woke up today, popped in Sodom's Agent Orange, and then went to work, jamming the entire way there. And guess what? I look like the most casual dude on the planet. You can't always pinpoint a metalhead from their looks, and I think that stereotype about metalheads looking a certain way is really annoying. I actually had a guy tell me I was a poser because my hair is short and I don't have all these band t-shirts and chains everywhere. Look, I tried the long hair, tight jeans, all black thing for a bit. It was alright, but it wasn't for me. So guess what? I'll keep my casual, geeky look AND continue to blare Rigor Mortis going down the highway.
Lysergic SuicideDeath and that's because the drugs open their minds up to good music. Luckily my dad's what's commonly defined as a classic metal fan so thanks to him I'm a lifelong fan
That's a fair one. I'm as proud of being straight edge as anyone can be but seeing some dickhead slap a beer out of someone's hand when they aren't doing anything wrong is painful.
When it comes to your rants, you've gotten a lot more focused and "mature" over time. Being calmer is good at proving your points, though I miss sometimes you old rants. Keep up the excellent work.
as a lifelong metalhead, I'm also lifelong straight edge and believer in God. I used to hate all other music, but then I grew up. xD Also, I'm proud to say I "corrupted" a kid in my neighborhood by making him a Metallica fan. I can tell his parents disliked me after that. xD
+xSneaky Reptile that's still wrong even with black metal. Most black metal focuses around western paganism actually.. Which doesn't equate to satanism. Of course, some of them were satanists.
I am a metal head, one of my favorite bands is Ghost. People call me a Satan worshipper in school. I think this is very funny considering I go to church every Sunday!
i'm a big fan of Ghost, too, and i can see how their skill with lyric-writing creates songs that can be interpreted in more than one way. not always blatant Satanism...
+Jared Bogda Well I can sort of see that, it does show enough evidence. Although it's not the Monster that's the problem. It's the lady. Even if it is "Satan", they have every right to freedom of speech.
People think I'm violent because I listen to metal But I could never hurt a fly People say I worship Satan But I'm somewhat of an agnostic, and frankly if I did what wrong with that, I mean if satanism is wrong then so is every religion ever.
I'm a metal head and I've never done a drug and I listen to just about of everything. I'm a huge Roxette fan Marie has an amazing voice and I also love 50 rock and doo wop. And I couldn't be a more less violent person
I'm a metalhead but ever since I heard my first Monstercat/Pegboard Nerds song, I was hooked on EDM as well. Rock has always been around as well as metal though.
Me and my friend were listening to some Ghost, and two girls were watching us, one of whom I liked. Later, I asked the girl out and she said that when I "worship the devil she gets uncomfortable." Fml
I love metal music, and while I have made a joke or two about burning churches, I'm generally a mellow person. I'm also into some rock and punk music, especially local music. I love local bands, and I support the fuck out of them. I always attend the concerts I go to in their entirety. Plus, if I find the time to play a show with my black metal band and I invite my coworkers to come see it, they might shit their pants. Even so, metal music is a big part of my life. I also consider it to be therapy.
What people my friends think I say to my parents before I go out: "mum I'm going to go burn a hutch and then go smoke some pot I'll see you later" *slams door*. What really happens when I go out: "mum I'm going out I'll see you later" *closes the door calmly*. I'm not joking someone at my school literally said that exact thing the other day. Let's just say I got a bit pissed
For number 3 I’m a huge metalhead but I honestly enjoy a little bit of everything. And number 2 studies have actually found metalheads to be some of the most compassionate people overall. Plus for me there’s nothing more therapeutic for me than moshing at a metal show
Shay Except for the close minded elitist and cry baby metalheads that get upset when someone has a different opinion on metal. They make the metal community look bad
Another steoreotype I've seen is that metalheads most of the time come from a working-class/poor/blue-collar background. While I have met fellow metalheads in high school that ranged from living in a 2-story house to a trailer park and being unable to get a job due to the issue of food stamps being cut. There are some that are LEO's and some that have done hard time, some that are working in factories and some that are teachers and lawyers and doctors and nurses.
I do have guilty pleasures I do listen to everything. You're not alone. 😉 I watch a lot cartoons. I listen to rock, pop, jazz, blues, country, rap, hip-hop, RNB, acoustic, soul, and emo. 😀👍
Every time I watch your videos, I can't binge watch your videos because I always get to huge of a hard-on for metal. I just have to leave and listen to more metal. :PPP
I do listen to other generals like blues, soul music and some old RNB music from the 60's-90's although the 2014-2015 ish era was slowly starting to go downhill but I do listen to theatrical rock (meatloaf) some classic rock, grunge, punk, anti gov punk, horror punk, theeennnn the heavy stuff like hair metal, punk metal, heavy, thrash, death metal, melodic death metal, Djent and Grindcore
Three things I hate is when people say "It's just noise" "There are no melodies" or "You can't even hear what they are singing" First of all, if they think it's just noise they are not listening hard enough and yes, there are melodies, there is whole entire genres of metal with the focus on melody. And second of all, yeah sometimes you can't actually hear what they are singing but is it really that important? Most metal genres and bands you can hear what they sing, with the exception of many Death Metal bands, Black Metal bands, and many Core genres. And if the lyrics is so important to them that it's all they care about they can read it online or on the vinyl/Cd or whatever. I just hate those three very loose arguments for not liking metal, if they just would say, "I'm sorry but this just isn't for me" it would be okay, but to go on and bash on the music because they don't understand it, thats just ignorant and stupid.
Gonna be honest, the Eighties-famous stereotype of burnout metalheads more concerned with partying/"havin a good time" than actual music is...kind of true. At least in regards to the culture in the Eighties.
I love Green Day Blink 182 Sum 41 Nirvana Metallica Black Sabbath Led Zeppelin Motörhead Nickleback Iron Maiden Van Halen Halestorm Nightwish Xandria Within Temptation We are the fallen Linkin Park The Offspring Good Charlotte Evanescence Paramore The Pretty Reckless Epica The Letter Black After Forever Rage of Light All American Rejects Soundgarden Alice in Chains AC/DC Avenged Sevenfold Five Finger Death Punch Disturbed Shinedown System of a down Papa Roach Guns and Roses Lit American Hi FI Beastie Boys Rise Against Rage Against the machine Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne.
I like good metal but some metal fans don't allow me to listen to anything else. Oh, they tell me I can't play real instruments. I've been playing guitar for many years and absolutely am not afraid of guitar battle despite I focused more on particular playing and don't claim to do it all. Anyway, a lot of the myths are created by stupid metal heads themselves. I remember there was a riot after Sodom concert. It could have happened after a game but you know what things look like when bunch of guys with chains and pyramids and long hair start a fight. There is party poopers and they love to go where fight may break out. They would go to opera if there is fight to be had.
I hear that "metal is only noise way to often" -.- but honestly I could say the same about today's wrap. but don't get me wrong my favorite bands are Metallica megadeth slayer annihilator etc. but on a good day i might just through on a song by ice cube or eazy-e but today's rap really has no meaning. shit I even played sour girl by stp a while back for a girl and I started talking about the meaning and she told me she only paid attention to the rythme. I think today people have stopped listening to the meaning of music and pay more attention to the ear catching bullshit of the sound
Another myth: you have to look like a metalhead in order to be one. I get that a a lot. 'You look too 'girly' to like metal' yes I own a lot of band shirts but that's besides the point.
Your video is good and it's the best defense of metal that I have heard in a long time but you said a bum steer. Heavy metal didn't first arrive in the 1980's! Heavy metal started with Black Sabbath with their first self titled album in 1970! Black Sabbath is widely accepted by the most people as the first heavy metal band.
I never tried any type of drug, I mean the illegal type. I listen to heavy metal and I'm a caring person, I just like to act like I don't care. People see you caring they think that's ok to walk over you like a door mat, just means you have to help those who will help you back. I'm not into devil worshiping , in fact I don't even believe in religion at all.
The word "Nerd" is just someone who likes a particular Topic or subject in a large amount. This means pretty much anyone who likes anything over something. Example: If you prefer scifi movies over everything else, then they're a scifi nerd. It's not a bad thing to be a nerd
I find the gateway to drugs thing hilarious, yes, it's not like the biggest metal band of all time constantly released songs putting drugs in a negative light
#2 really hurts. I'm on my way to a degree in psychology so I can be a child psychologist. It doesn't matter that I listen to slam and DSBM I'm just a naturally nice and caring person
I find it annoying how often I hear "that's the kind of shit I'd listen to if I wanted to stomp on puppies"... WTF man why would you do that?! It's just music. The people that don't appreciate it are more hostile than the actual fans.
Another myth.... all that metal vocalists do is grunt or scream. Anybody that believes this hasn't heard the vocals of the late great Ronnie James Dio or Rod Halford of Judas Priest.
Unfortunately we are a misunderstood breed. Their loss: they're missing out on good shit!
Strongly agree
Ummm...nope! they're not missing out on anything, dude!
They just don't like metal music because it's just too extreme for them to handle.
@@americanliberal09 theyre missing out on mosh pits. Slam pits are the best
@@big_titan_ofleft_house8377 LOL! XD
@@americanliberal09 seriously moshing is fucking awesome.
I like how most metalheads tend to have better taste in pop music than most pop fans.
Kesi Miao lol
Michael jackson and owl city versus justin bieber and taylor swift
Michal G, love that profile pic. My favorite Voivod album.
Exactly. I listen to what I like to call ironic J-Pop. Where they make a J-Pop sounding song but with funny weird lyrics or when it's an anime opening talking about the anime itself and not a cheesy love song. For example backstreet girls opening.
As much as I like Slipknot and GloryHammer I like older and modern pop music.
"Damn, definitely gotta scope out the dark lord."
-CKN 2016
Laughing my fuckin ass off
5 for me, would also be "you're just a metalhead because you think it makes you look cool or hardcore"
Yes, the genre that only I in this large group of people listen to makes me cool, doesn't it? Thats why I listen to it, to win the appeal of the people aropund me who don't listen to it. Please, cut me a break.
I'm a metal head that enjoys a wide variety of music. Jazz, rock, pop, jpop and jrock. Rap, classical, folk music and more.
i've known the odd metalhead who felt the only way to go was to "live the lifestyle", where everything they do is related to metal, and that's all they listen to. i see that as extremely limiting and close-minded. i think that being a well-rounded person is more important. in fact, if you listen to jazz, classical, folk, etc as well... you can see and appreciate those influences in metal. an interesting history to metal and its growth and transformation.
That country joke was the BEST THING EVER
another myth is our music is associated with emos and screaming
That and "it's just noise"
" what an emo. he listen to 80s screamo yuk!! " * face palms *
lol he listens to the good stuff not emo
Number 3 is the main reason i don't label myself as a metalhead, i love metal, LOVE it but i also love classic rock (The beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, The Doors...) and many more. I love these genres about equally so calling myself a metalhead doesn't seem right
Your description of stoner metal is flat out on point
I agree with #3 completely. I love my share of metal. But some of my favorite bands arent metal like Rush, Yes, Billy Joel, Cheap Trick. What I hate though is when people say that they only like music because its heavy. I like music that shows talent and creativity while still keeping true to the musicality concept of using real instruments
David "VC" Miller I couldn't have said that better myself.
David "VC" Miller It can be heavy without being good lol. You need to write good riffs in order for it to be memorable while still being heavy.
i can enjoy the happiest green day song and the darkest dying fetus song. As you say, if there's talent, that's i wanna be listening to
Federico Solari Exactly. Thats how i feel
David "VC" Miller This is so true. I can go from Oranssi Pazuzu to Elvis Presley quickly. And many people think that "muurhhg he only listens to yelling ugh"
When people think metal is screaming but then I show them Ozzy
Another myth: Metalheads are atheists.
It's partially correct.
Lurch Murphy so are a lot of people in this world metalhead or not. I'm catholic and a metalhead
Mr. Ash I go to a private catholic school😂
Idontknowone1able if anything modern pop and raps more satanic than black and death metal lol
John Joe Fitzpatrick
Justin Bieber is way more satanic than black metal lol.
I love metel but I also like jazz blues rock n roll hard rock punk rock disco a little bit of pop and rap old rap and old pop not the new rap and pop😊

Dude, I woke up today, popped in Sodom's Agent Orange, and then went to work, jamming the entire way there. And guess what? I look like the most casual dude on the planet. Drugs are a gateway to heavy metal, they got it twisted.
Lysergic SuicideDeath and that's because the drugs open their minds up to good music. Luckily my dad's what's commonly defined as a classic metal fan so thanks to him I'm a lifelong fan
We need more straight edge in metal. Its wasting its time with punk.
I agree that these are wrong stereotypes.

The Satan worshipper thing is really stupid in more than one way because we not satanists and even if we were, satanists are pretty nice people.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone called Shinedown satanist....
TAKATOOSE Second chance might just be a song about Lucifer's downfall LOL
TAKATOOSE There is a lady campaigning against Monster energy drinks because "Satan" just throwing that out there.
+Jared Bogda Well I can sort of see that, it does show enough evidence. Although it's not the Monster that's the problem. It's the lady. Even if it is "Satan", they have every right to freedom of speech.
TAKATOOSE Then again I would be surprised if someone were to call Shinedown metal. ;) Alternative metal maybe.

Me and my friend were listening to some Ghost, and two girls were watching us, one of whom I liked. Later, I asked the girl out and she said that when I "worship the devil she gets uncomfortable." Fml
William Anuschomper when i went to see Ghost the crowd actually chanted "Hail Satan" and my brother was tripping out
Send her this video, or if she still doesnt get it , dont waste Your time
Send her the dying fetus video for forced gender reassignment
I'm with you. Let's take over the world!

3:46 well at least it`s hard!
imagine how her dissapointment would be complete...
as a Christian who likes A7X, Metallica, System of a Down, Linkin Park, and a bunch of other bands in different styles of rock, this list is correct.
For number 3 I’m a huge metalhead but I honestly enjoy a little bit of everything. And number 2 studies have actually found metalheads to be some of the most compassionate people overall. Plus for me there’s nothing more therapeutic for me than moshing at a metal show
Metal fans are actually the opposite, and tend to be the most calm/gentle people
There's still way too many drunken tough guy wannabes. The concert scene exposes this.
Yeah I meant generally
Shay Except for the close minded elitist and cry baby metalheads that get upset when someone has a different opinion on metal. They make the metal community look bad
Where did you get the thumbnail because there is a local band from my city in Ontario Canada that has that image on its album cover
good video m8
Another steoreotype I've seen is that metalheads most of the time come from a working-class/poor/blue-collar background. While I have met fellow metalheads in high school that ranged from living in a 2-story house to a trailer park and being unable to get a job due to the issue of food stamps being cut. Gonna be honest, the Eighties-famous stereotype of burnout metalheads more concerned with partying/"havin a good time" than actual music is...kind of true. At least in regards to the culture in the Eighties.
May you do a Tool discography review? That would be interesting.
I love metal but some of my fav bands are classic rock.

For #2 Metal is what helped me be happier and care more! It gave me freinds and confidence from going to concerts :p
it took me some time but I full understand shook value sells
I hate it when people call my music screamo even though im listening to thrash or death metal
Good i have parents that like all music, metal too.
Myth #1 drives me nuts. But I do have to say when fellow metalheads learn that I'm a Protestant Reformed Christian their response is usually... WHAT?!
I am a Christian myself. I was raised Baptist, and love Metal and music in general.
Me too. Cool. #MetalheadsThatAren’tEvil!!!
My guilty pleasure is The Frozen Autumn.
Coverkilller, I've been a metal head for over 30s years& I've never had anything to dowith drugs

yeah I release my angry and rage when im playing skyrim
I love metal and my dad introduced it to me.
I'm living proof that #3 is wrong. while metal is my favorite, I'll listen to any song of any genre as long as I like it
Same here

Up the metalheads!
People say that metal music is the music to be wary of... I say it's pop music that is more dangerous. Kids dancing to songs with sexual messages.
LOL! hey! that's very tamed compared towards other death metal bands that have way more disturbing lyrics that'll make anybody's heads spin.
