  • PNNL manages the Department of Homeland Security First Responder Group’s Responder Technology Alliance to accelerate the development of and bring to market integrated technology solutions that will significantly improve the safety and capability of first responders. PNNL partnered with Continuum, a global design and innovation consultancy firm, to engage first responders and representatives from technology development firms nationwide. These videos tell the story of the envisioned ideas so that both first responders and potential industry partners can imagine the possibilities. This video highlights police needs for future technologies. nwrtc.pnnl.gov

I can see how this is actually realistic locational tracking, Facial recognition, Drones, Bullet and stab proof vests and status updates are all possible. Only problem is spending or just the city PD. Would get this.

It's more realistic to say that body armors will be made of spider silk instead of kevlar, hence just as strong but more lightweight and flexible. The military is already spending money for that research.

Modern ballistic textiles meet or exceed tensiles for S.Silk. What silk does better is the ultimate limit of stretching, which is a double edged sword. The officer may not be given a new orifice, but they may suffer blunt damage. This is usually better, but sometimes not.

Technology wont change police department. Its a job....many wont understand. And will never understand. Its a job where you are always stressed 24/7 even when you are off duty, because you never leave your job in the locker. Its a job where only a few people will respect you, and this is why more and more officers are staying away from social media when they join police department. Its a job why you miss your kids school activity, or you couldn't come to the wedding, or couldn't come to your child's birthday. Its a job when you hug your wife and kids for the last time as you know that you might not come home. In many situations, you don't think, when someone is shooting at you-you don't think. You don't rely on technology. You rely on yourself and your partner (fellow workers). I'm not saying this technology is not good, this tech is amazing! But it WONT change police job. It wont change the stress that each officer experience. It wont bring back the officers life that lost his/her life on duty today. Those people on video...they are actors. They have everything scripted and what to do, how to move. But bring those same exact people to a real shooting, real incident, I bet they will do things differently. So I just want to say...don't always rely on technology, self driving cars, etc. I gotta say...im not an officer, and I will NEVER understand the job. Nor will you unless you become one. Nor any other engineers. No one. My dad is a patrol officer, and I showed him this video, its basically his words. That's what he said and I shared it. So think about it...they will be criticized for wearing those glasses, its 2017! Its not 1960s. Its 2017 where every one of the officers will be criticized and disrespected. I don't mind them making this tech, I think its awesome. But I know they offered those vests to my police department last year, and they didn't accept it. They offered many things to us, and our department just did not accept. idk why lol
