      it's surprising how often I'm not doing the things I expected to do.
      I think maybe 5 times over the last year I've wrapped a bleed or bone. The majority of your calls are people having anxiety attacks. Or old people who need help getting back on their feet.

    Hello, Australian paramedic here; could you do a video on the equipment and drugs in your ambulance? As an EMT do you work with a paramedic? I miss the 14 hr. nightshifts we did without turning a wheel. Nowadays it's 12-hour shifts, there's a job waiting for you when you start, and work all through the night doing about 8-10 jobs. An FOT is extremely rare too!

    • @Alexia.Mishock
      @Alexia.Mishock  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I work with a paramedic sometimes or sometimes just with another EMT! Very cool to hear from Australia, thanks for the comment!

    • @coover65
      @coover65 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@Alexia.Mishock Can I ask what a paramedic does where you work that an EMT can't do? It's a little different in Australia; to be allowed to work on an emergency ambulance you have to be a Registered Paramedic, and it's technically illegal for somebody who's not to perform such work. Similar to nursing, where you do 3 years at university and a year as an intern to become a registered Paramedic.

    • @Alexia.Mishock
      @Alexia.Mishock  7 месяцев назад +2

      @@coover65 yeah so paramedics can do IV’s, give meds, monitor EKGs, intubation, all the advanced life support skills. EMT’s only can do basic life support skills such as CPR, taking vital signs, or administering aspirin, glucose, oxygen. Hope that helps!

    • @Alexia.Mishock
      @Alexia.Mishock  Год назад

      Very cool! Yeah the majority of stations I’ve been to have at least a kitchen. We usually work 12-hour shifts so it’s very nice to have a place to heat up food or use the fridge. Also when working night shift it’s nice to have beds (although the one station I work at only has couches).

    Hey so question if one plans on going into the EMT field of work. What High School courses should one take? Also do you recommend going to college?

    • @Alexia.Mishock
      @Alexia.Mishock  3 месяца назад

      Hey! Take some basic anatomy courses or medical terminology courses! I do not recommend going to college to be an EMT unless it’s needed! If you want to be a paramedic though I think you would need an associates degree in most places!
