Bought an 04 g35 coupe at 110k now at 150k Ill iv replaced is a window motor soo far soo i cant complain amazing car soo reliable for me soo far!! Wish me luck in the next 50k everyone🤣
me bro that's impressive in my future car enthusiast car buying I am thinking about getting a G35 S or X sedan or a G37 S or X sedan since I got three step children and I got the woman riding shotgun. Any tips you got for me to try this platform because I've had four hundred Prelude I've had three SS Cobalt supercharges and I have one that was an lsj Turbo
Personally speaking as a owner that is on my 5th VQ ownership. The issues with VQ35 make sure you have funds ready to fix its little minor quirks like oil cooler hose leaks, oil burner issues, value cover leaks granted its less stressful than owning say a BMW 3 series. For all it’s minor flaws the FM VQ platform is still a solid choice.
Every item you mentioned is due to improper maintenance and service. This is the problem with a lot of things. People don't want to go to the dealership because they charge a lot. So they change the oil and let it go. There is lubrication for the locks, the sunroof, the windows. Read your service manual. Do the correct service, because the dealership won't. They will change oil and flush brakes and take 800 bucks. They won't even pull out the list on what needs to be done. It's because the techs make ten bucks an hour and get no commission while the dealership charges ninety bucks an hour to the customer. The technicians aren't educated and they don't care because they are jealous of your "real car" If you follow the directions on Japanese vehicles, they are simply superior, even to the Germans. Go get an engineering degree then have ammunition for an argument. Follow the book, and let your car warm up properly. It isn't that difficult.
JayMonstaR6 you're obviously under 10, you can't type a complete sentence. You couldn't acknowledge and comprehend an intelligent comment so you just threw insults. Pathetic smh
Jasmine The Incredible wow incredible you have no idea how a dealership works techs make way more than 10$ an hour and they work flat rate which is commission based dumbass
ClearKillsOG it just depends how well you take care of it. I mean if you were flooring the fuck outta your car and speed blitzing over pot holes and shit ye it's gonna die out.
I got an 04 and had 2 of the problems fixed fairly cheap. window motors just collect dirt and lose continuity when engaged, simply taking the inner shaft apart and cleaning it with electric parts cleaner did the trick. make sure the pins have good contact to the races. The actuator motors, i bought some that fit the stock housing but had to adjust length of shaft and had the most trouble moving the old gear off shaft to place onto new motor. But both problems fixed and good as new.
It was. The R35 is built on a G chassis. Thats why in Japan the G is a Skyline. If you wanted to spent alot of money, you can convert a G into a 100% proper R35 GTR.
Got a 2003 G35 for just over a year. So far, nothing major has gone wrong. One of my headlights stopped working and replaced the ballast. Front speakers started distorting sound, so had them replaced with aftermarket speakers. Other than that, everything's been fine. It's as reliable as most other Japanese cars. All cars have issues with use and age, and the G35 is not particularly bad, in my experience so far.
Bought my 03 G35 coupe with 168k miles for $3500 a couple days ago & the whole car has been well maintained. Only issue is a couple burnt out bulbs & the driver side door won’t lock
Mine is a 03 and I encounter all of these problems except the sunroof issue. I love my car. My only complaint was the oil consumption issue. But everything is fixable. FYI don't buy a g35 unless ur willing to work on it. I enjoy the work.
Ha ha ha ha!!! The other day, the punk at my local O'Reilly's asked me if my G35 was a stick. I said no but it had the manual option. He said "real cars have three pedals." I asked what he drove and if he wanted to line it up against mine. He said a MIATA! I just laughed and laughed on my way out the door!
my first car was a 05 G. loved it. never had any of these issues. My biggest issue wass the seats dont hold up well on the corners where they connect to the plastic frame of the seat. I only put 11k miles on it in 2 years though. Sold it 4 years ago though and am on to bigger and better but i wish I would have kept it to mess around with
It all depends on the previous owner. I’m the second owner of my Z. First owner was an old lady. Lucky for me she didn’t beat on it like most owners do. Just gotta be smart and know who you buying it from
Don't forget to mention that the seats have a bad wear and tear problem on the side bolster. My 06 6MT coupe was using about 4 quarts of oil every 3 thousand miles and I don't beat on my car. But it was just totaled about 2 weeks ago and now I've got t try to fix it or sell it as-is. It was rear ended on the driver rear corner bumper. It doesn't look bad but these cars are notorious for having a salvage or rebuilt title. And its very difficult to find 6MTs for a good price and in good condition. That's my 2 cents.
I’ve had mine for 3 years and have not experienced any of the issues in this video at all. Probably more relatable to a car that hasn’t been taken care of by previous owners.
As a G35 owner I can vouch for all of these problems lol. I bought mine for fairly cheap because it had all of these problems. Except the 3rd/5th gear problem, mine's a 5AT, never had any problems. Although I have heard of people with the 6MT's back in the day, just taking out 3rd gear to "solve" the problem, so that is most likely what happened to yours. Also if your sunroof doesn't work, but you can hear the motor working- the motor may have actually fallen off, as mine did. Pulled the lining down and got a screwdriver in there and fixed it up good as new. It was a pain in the ass and took about an hour but at least it works. One thing I'd say you forgot.. The door stops (checks) that hold the doors open at different intervals seem to wear out more often than other cars, I assume due to the heavy ass doors. So if your doors don't stay open, or close themselves.. change your door stops. (coupe) Also another problem, actually, is that sometimes on the G35 coupes, the windows will go down by themselves randomly.. And nobody is really sure why and there isn't really a fix to it. For example I parked my car when I was coming home for the night, and it was cold so naturally my windows would not have been down, also I'm positive they were shut.. but anyway I went out in the morning and my driver-side window was about halfway down. Could've been the window motor, but I've since replaced that about a week ago, and this problem has only ever happened once, about 5 months ago.
I have an 2005 with 83k miles.. I’ve replace one window motor, the radiator, both fans and thermostat. Other than that, the car has been great! Especially the AC. Best AC of any car I’ve ever owned.
Bought my 04 g sedan about 6 years ago and besides normal oil changes I've had little problem with the car now has about 84k on it, one thing that I did have a problem with was losing air from my tire but that was due to the chrome not sealing well with the tire
The earlier models may be problematic. We have a '08 G35 sedan (5sp auto - wife's car), just turned 177,000 miles (bought it with 128,000) and I've never noticed an oil consumption or window motor issues. I've only done brakes and a couple months ago, the front wheel bearings. THAT'S IT! It's been bullitproof and we love it just as much now as we did when we got it. I just wish it was a 6spd manual! 😢
Ive heard plenty of that and I havnt had a chance to own a newer one just yet, but i definatly believe you! it seems like the firsts are always...iffy. same with 2004 Acura TLs, the 04s are iffy but by 07 and 08 theyve worked out the bugs!...or maybe theyre just not old enough to cause issues yet?:0
I'd really like to know how to check the oil consumption. Soooo many Gs (probably MOST) face this issue. Many sporty cars in general (acuras, accord sedans, etc) face the oil consumption issue. Other than driving it for a week to see where the oil is at...
I'd like to add that the valve covers like to leak into the spark plugs at 100k and you cant replace the seals so you need a whole new valve cover. Also my knock sensor sub harness melted and shorted out soooo yeah. it didnt throw a CEL so make sure if to bring a scanner if you buy a g35
Another thing to check if you live in the north is for rust on the rear wheel wells. I had an 06 and the rust was already getting pretty bad before I sold it.
+MN Car Culture lol living in Canada, rust on rear 1/4 panel where it meets the bumper and another thing to which is really annoying is rusted out bolts that hold in the under tray
my list would be the control arms bushings also the trunks get heavy after a while and won't go up the shocks and timing chain guides if u got bad luck on ur car but other then that no problems
These engines are notorious for valve seals and sludge. The way the oil filler is set up, it is hard to just open it and see into the top of the head area to check for sludge in a VQ35. Although not fatal, if the engine is sludged up, chances are it will need the pan and valve covers removed as well as the timing case cover removed and the crud flushed out. If you get the classic puff of blue smoke at start up, valve seals are damaged by the sludge and crud and need to be replaced (number 1 reason for oil consumption inthese engines). The VQ35 and 37 engines are real sludge boxes unless you change oil religiously at no more then 3.5K preferably at 3K miles with a good synthetic. I know this because? Because my 350Z is clean inside it's engine and runs perfectly with 125K on it. No oil use. My Q60S, on the other hand, was not maintaineed by a previous owner and is now being de-sludged and having it's valve seals replaced because it now blows a cloud of smoke at each start up. The Q only has 34K mile on it, so an engine can sludge up that fast if you don't change the oil enough. The previous owner basically effed up a $50 grand car because they were too cheap to change the oil at a proper interval. Stupidity and cheapness never cease to amaze me.
I love my 06 sedan. Its fast but, drinks oil like a mother. Oh and the door locks on it's own sometimes so I leave a window down when the keys are inside.
I got a 03 g35 at 192k miles and all the things you mentioned, my car has never had issues with. Except the passenger window motor, it still works, I haven't replaced it, but every once in a while it won't go up when you want it to, so I wait a few seconds, try again, and it goes up. Except oil, definitely likes oil. Not sooo bad, but definitely noticeable compared to other cars.
Hey there. I am supposed to be buying a 2006 G35 Coupe this tuesday. The dealer said they would fix the issues (Passenger Door motor, Sunroof due to it not closing all the way and the car jerks when shifting for a few mins). I took it to Auto Zone and the code said it was possibly valve seals and definitely has a missfiring issue. I have a feeling there is no way they can fix all that by tomorrow. Any ideas?
You left put the leaking spark plug tube seals that are known to fail which you can't replacr you have to buy a new valve cover which isn't cheap also left out the lower control arm bushings and compression rod bushings all are likely to fail
MN Car Culture yep I was scared about all the issue's I read about but I think the original owner babied it like heck Lol but time will tell if these will arise.
My 2006 5at coupe with 138k miles is doing great with its bolt ons and tune. But I will say my fuel gauge is shot ($500 Infiniti dealer fix!)so I just use my trip tracker thing lol. Also my right side passenger window will go down 1/4 of the away after trying to press auto up...
That window behavior is not actually an issue, its just that it needs to be programed to use the Auto function using the button the window motor has. I have the same issue but I dont want to spend 80 dollars to reprogram it
+HKinkead do you have to take stuff apart? Lol if so , sadly I am not good at taking stuff apart but maybe one day I'll try. But is there a good video on it?
@SuburbanSpeedShop 2:14 ya man i have similar issue with my 5th gear it doesnt wanna catch and it grinds, rarely it works now. Any solutions? Do i have to change the whole clutch now or what?
yeh feel your pain, besides ok oil consuptuion my G has all the issues mentioned, hopefully i dont jinx it and it gives me hell on fuel too after this comment fingers crossed
Just got an 03 with 17 k miles on it and I had to replace my passenger side window and had to replace my brakes twice in less Than a month... I heard the brakes on these are ridiculous. Other than that love my G ride !
Scott Fortenberry why tho. Thats a waste of the infinitis 3.5 v6. Its a great engine and i wouldnt get it just to swap a v8 into it. If you wanna do an ls swap get a different car. If you get a g35 keep the engine stock
Okay a common issue is the windows and motors sucking. I've driven a few G35's and they've had fucked up windows. I was test driving one and the window stopped working lol. I drive a Nissan Maxima and I've had 3 other Nissan Maxima's and the windows always get messed up too. I've also driven one G37s and 2017 Q50 and the window motors in those suck too. It's a common Nissan/Infiniti problem. Even in the 2017 Q50 which is a luxury car, it happens.
Do you happen to know about old 90's infiniti?? I still subscribe to your channel, so no worries if you don't know, anyone who knows about cars is worth subscribing to. Thanks.
+MN Car Culture lucky mine is so bad reads fully empty at 200 miles. And I had axel clicks and I fixed it and it's slowly coming back but not as bad as before
"We don't only work on Miatas we have real cars too." Laughed so hard on that one.
+Austin have to point that out haha
Same 😂

Saber008 lololol
😂😂😂😂 10 seconds in and that killed me lol
I must have been lucky. Ive had zero problems with my 04' with 160k miles on it. I love my G35.

Tony how’s it going
CryptoPaul I think it failed and he died bro

Still runs perfect nd all my Windows work great
me bro that's impressive in my future car enthusiast car buying I am thinking about getting a G35 S or X sedan or a G37 S or X sedan since I got three step children and I got the woman riding shotgun. Mans is shrugging off not having 3rd gear because those 6 speed transmissions ain't cheap 😂😂
Sammyeggnog Dead asf 😭😭
fr xD
you forgot to mention the CD player that constantly breaks, or how the leather is always ripped on the driver side seat.

Jasmine The Incredible wow incredible you have no idea how a dealership works techs make way more than 10$ an hour and they work flat rate which is commission based dumbass
Great video! I'm looking at a used one and this is exactly what I needed to see.
I have a 03 g with 140k miles and everything works like new
ClearKillsOG I've got an 04 G35x AWD and it is actually pretty damn nice!

"they're not cheap" - the underlying theme of the G35
I learned that the hard way .
Hr swap!
This was very good and informative, 👍 I appreciate it ☺️
your making me second guess about getting one.😒😬
Emurg_n54, I saw you on another g35 video, and you said the EXACT opposite. Either you had many problems in 11 months or you're lying 🤔.
@Anthony Butera lol
G35 GUY youre a bitch
Great video a lot of really good tips
You bought a lemon not up for debate
R.J Savage I’m saying like the sunroof went out ? Lmaooo throw the whole car away
Just found a 03 G35 for $4500 and 86k miles :')))))) I'm so glad to be in the G fam!!!
I feel like the g35 was tester model of the godzilla

I just purchased a 2007 g35 120k miles i'm loving it so far only use it to drive to and from work but it's such a beauty
... ... ... soooooooo... you bought a piece of shit?
Basically, copart aint all about good deals lol.
Congrats!! Sounds like you got a solid whip at a great price too!
How's it holding up ? About to do the same thing but buying for 2700
Mine is a 03 and I encounter all of these problems except the sunroof issue. I love my car. My only complaint was the oil consumption issue. But everything is fixable. FYI don't buy a g35 unless ur willing to work on it. I enjoy the work.
Dont forget about the crankshaft sensor going out and ur g turns off on the freeway, scary
+deftones 26 I cant believe i forgot about that!!! ive had that on my first and it seriosly was scary before i found the problem.
+MN Car Culture camshaft sensor expensive?
My 03 get35 is on its second Cam sensor bank 1. $54 at oreillys.
@@robsilveira6707 That's your problem.... Buy OEM's
Just got a G and now I know what to look out for... however you should’ve added the false gas gauge

just subbed:D vq power
I had to replace my transmission 3rd gear was grinding I had warranty that saved me

+MN Car Culture lol living in Canada, rust on rear 1/4 panel where it meets the bumper and another thing to which is really annoying is rusted out bolts that hold in the under tray
Or just use paint protection. Common misconception is you don't have to wax or seal cars paint.
For problem #1 can you take off the oil cap and see if sir is blowong out.. i jear if its likena fan the rings are gone
lmaooo bro my g35 has 150k miles and acts and runs brand new. It’s an amazing car
Have a 5.5Gen Maxima and the window motor is an issue for these too. As well as the sunroof, oil consumption, and camshaft sensor. VQ35 power!!!!
my list would be the control arms bushings also the trunks get heavy after a while and won't go up the shocks and timing chain guides if u got bad luck on ur car but other then that no problems
These engines are notorious for valve seals and sludge. The way the oil filler is

Is that an expensive procesa to have done?
My 2002 g35s radiator went bad and had to replace a couple years back but other than that its a great car
what type of //""ODBII" did you happen to use to run this engine
I love my 06 sedan. Its fast but, drinks oil like a mother. Oh and the door locks on it's own sometimes so I leave a window down when the keys are inside.
So what are the problems with MY 2006-2007 and are G37s better and what problems do they have
It's how it's looked after some people are rough with cars and some don't service it
I got a 03 g35 at 192k miles and all the things you mentioned, my car has never had issues with. Except the passenger window motor, it still works, I haven't replaced it, but every once in a while it won't go up when you want it to, so I wait a few seconds, try again, and it goes up. I will also mention the compression test I did last week came out at 180psi across. The car still pulls great!
is it still working any updates??
I own a 2006 g35 coupe and all of these problems i have had. except the door lock actuator
+Jose Zapata we told ya!! haha sorry to hear that I guess watch out for those door lock actuators...
+Jose Zapata your 06 even lost the third gear?

You left put the leaking spark plug tube seals that are known to fail which you can't replacr you have to buy a new valve cover which isn't cheap also left out the lower control arm bushings and compression rod bushings all are likely to fail
I got an 06 MT luckily it was well taken care of I don't have any of these issue's but I was aware of these issue's before buying one.
Sounds like you got a good one
MN Car Culture yep I was scared about all the issue's I read about but I think the original owner babied it like heck Lol but time will tell if these will arise.
Again lots of these problems are not strictly G35 problems but just old car problems.
MN Car Culture very true.
I like the z1000 in the background
+everss02 thanks I absolutely love that bike!
I have the same issue but I dont want to spend 80 dollars to reprogram it
+HKinkead how does it get reprogrammed then? Never thought of that. Gotta let be those design flaws with the G sadly
There are some videos of how to program them, is using a small button on the window motor..is a little hard to access it, but it should work
+HKinkead do you have to take stuff apart? Lol if so , sadly I am not good at taking stuff apart but maybe one day I'll try. But is there a good video on it?
How much for a new engine with installation?
seems like every nissan/infinity V6 3.5 engine drinks up oil
It is a big deal ? Does it damage the engine , or you just need to put more oil ?
wazzaa wassupbengi It can damage the engine
How much was this when you bought it and how much did it cost bro?
@SuburbanSpeedShop 2:14 ya man i have similar issue with my 5th gear it doesnt wanna catch and it grinds, rarely it works now. Any solutions? Do i have to change the whole clutch now or what?
Subbed. Would love to own a G35 one day but stuck working on Miatas right now lol
DMV Miata and Jeep I got a g35 I'll trade plus cash your end :)
Wait Miatas are awesome!
Does the 2007 g35 coupe have the same problems?
the windows are a bigger hassle then not having 3rd gear?
yeh feel your pain, besides ok oil consuptuion my G has all the issues mentioned, hopefully i dont jinx it and it gives me hell on fuel too after this comment fingers crossed
Is it normal to have a slight vibration in the shift knob?
Hit 3 out of 5 (3rd gear is not an issue on automatic, and sunroof doesn’t bother cause I don’t have one) Nissan Skyline 350 ‘04
thanks
Just got an 03 with 17 k miles on it and I had to replace my passenger side window and had to replace my brakes twice in less
Than a month... I heard the brakes on these are ridiculous. Other than that love my G ride !
If I get a G35 as my first car, I'm thinking about putting an LS1 into it. I literary have an LS1 engine just sitting in my garage collecting dust.
Young Dante buy something else to put that in it
Young Dante lies, lmao and you can't just drop it in. That's not how things work ;)
Sell it, keep the vq
I'm thinking
•catch can
•turbocharger
•tune
•corn(e85)
Maybe other cosmetic mods
Scott Fortenberry why tho. Thats a waste of the infinitis 3.5 v6. Its a great engine and i wouldnt get it just to swap a v8 into it. If you wanna do an ls swap get a different car. If you get a g35 keep the engine stock
this is actually uncommon, the most common problems are bad valve body, pcm, seat motors, and gas consumption/ or just a bad gas needle reading.
Minnesota reppin!
Whats up!
what do you think about the vaydor body kit?
I'm from mn too
I need some advice guys theres this 2004 g35 for 5k$ with 147k miles do you think that's a good deal or what?
Do you happen to know about old 90's infiniti?? I still subscribe to your channel, so no worries if you don't know, anyone who knows about cars is worth subscribing to. Thanks.
CMC goes out on these g35 g37 pretty easily too.
the oil consumption is not from beating ,it's nornal. I haven't heard of the other "problems".
My G35 130k, my 350Z 160k. zero problems both 05
I'm looking to buy a 6mt 2005 with 36k miles for 12k. Should I?
I have an 03’ g35 stick shift and I don’t have any of these problems.
Thanks mate but remember to block out remove your license plate
Did you get 3rd gear fixed ? :D
Would these engine problems go towards a 2008 g sedan?
And the 08's should have the rev-up motor. Which kinda has its own issues.
yep passenger door lock gave out on me lol
Don't forget you have to constantly change blinker fluid
ayy MN represent!
yo!
hate to tell you but EVERY nissan has a window problem lol every single nissan i have had, same problem! get replacements at the boneyard.
You also live in the coldest part of the country..I have An 08 with 155000 and it still is scary fast. And everything works fine.Burns no oil.
My g35 i got at 140k had just one of these issues. The lock and its not even tht bad.
What about the sedans ? Do they have oil problems ?
TMHGANG same as coupe because they have the same engine
I think I went to school with this guy. C/O 2014 BHS.
thing is, he's right with the windows and the actuators.
and the problem is not just on the g35, it's on the fx as well..
+Aconstantinesei Daniel i would think its most nissan/infinitis since theynprobably mostly use the same parts
When the mods motor goes bad u dont get mad. And just put a twin turbo 2jz
I have an 03 with that same color
make sure fuel gauge works correctly in 03-04, driver seat tears, and axel clicking during acceleration
+edsonvin415 Definatly agree about the gauge. Although i got lucky with this one my first one was bad. The clicking axles can be solved pretty easily.
+MN Car Culture lucky mine is so bad reads fully empty at 200 miles. And I had axel clicks and I fixed it and it's slowly coming back but not as bad as before
Cars like this are becoming over 10 years old so lots of these problems are included with being old.
