- Canon R5C vs Canon C70: Which Camera is the Better Investment?
In this video, I discuss my first impressions of the Canon R5 C, and what I like and dislike. 8K resolution, no more overheating, 45MP Stills still capabilities, and beautiful canon color makes this camera a consideration. Would I consider it over my current Canon C70 for my video needs?

Having a fan is so helpful! Overheating in the middle of a wedding can be the worst. Thank you for this review!
Glad it was helpful!
Another great review, I got say that canon R6 Mark II seems to be the best of both worlds, 4K from 6K 24MP sensor and no overheating with fastest switch from Photo to Video and the added option of 6K pro Res Raw externally for $2500!!!
yeah that's what I'm thinking too. I believe the R6 doesn't have the higher internal record codecs. I could be wrong
Totally agree. The Canon R6MKII sounds like what I'm missing when it comes to overheating, better stills, and better codecs. 6K Pro Res Raw sounds amazing, I wish they would have just released this camera instead of the current Canon R6 from the get go haha
@@LALoveCreative Facts but you know canon got hold something back to have emergency card for quarterly sales to make investors happy!!! Literally going to do a video on why they should just do firmware program as I would be happy to pay the $500 for the updated features instead of now trying to sell the Mark 1 for $2K which I probably go for $1800 and then and $700 on top to get the mark II SMH!
@@torsrive8920 I own the Canon c500 mk2 and C70 and can ensure you it holds its own especially since R5c handicap with clog3
I got some good pictures on my Polaroid Z2300, & print
What do you think between the c200 and the c70? How good is the actual image between the two. I hate to buy a c70, when a c200 would have produced basically the same image, AF and RAW.
Awesome review. I love a good camera. I currently have the Cannon I believe or maybe it's a different model but I have had it for quite a few years. I need an upgrade but cameras cost to much these days.
Loved shooting with the Canon R5 C, let me know what next camera I should review on this channel? I know I am a Canon fan boy but I love all brands.
Really looking forward to your post on the next full frame camera Panasonic releases. You could review the S1 or S5 meanwhile, if you can get your hands on one :)
I've got a C70 and an R5C, and it's just a perfect package.
Don't want to get you in any trouble with the wife.. but...... it really covers all bases.
Then again, for you.. if you're mostly shooting fashion and weddings, C70+R6 really may be better, because you don't really want the super detailed image from the R5C for either of those. I shoot grittier stuff than that a lot, so sometimes that extra detail is exactly what I want, and sometimes it isn't.. so it's nice to have both.
I'm really tempted to pick up a Canon R5C, going to see what gear I can sell maybe so the wifey doesn't get mad haha I really like the soft film-like image the Canon C70 has but sometimes I want a very tack sharp image that I feel like the R5C could provide. Thanks for the input and thanks for watching.
@@LALoveCreative idk that R6 mk2 is looking good to me. Feels like a perfect B-Cam for either the C70 or R5C. 6K oversample is a perfect midpoint bw C70 4K and R5 8K. And 6K RAW over HDMI is available if you really wanna push image quality. I'm eyeing that right now..
That'll prob go over better with wifey too.
I love your sound. What audio interface and microphone are you using? Did you have your audio mastered? What is your editing software?
I usually just feed my Rode PodMic directly into my Canon C70, in terms of audio editing I'm just using Final Cut Pro's Compressor, EQ, and Limiter to mix the audio. Nothing crazy but thanks.
@LA Love Creative,
Good review. I have both the R5 (for stills) and R5C for video and love both of them.
Are you still shooting Sony? I shoot both depending on the work and use cases. Might upgrade the A7R4 with the A7R5.
Hope you can a hand of it and do a review.
The R5C does need a firmware update to fix some of the known issues and bugs.
That sounds like an awesome kit with both cameras. I think the Canon R5 has some features that make it hard to just have the Canon R5C. I do shoot with Sony's depending on the project but mostly the Sony FX3 and FX6 for production work. I can't wait to try out the new A7R5 it looks like a beast of a camera. I'll try to get a hold of one soon. Thanks for watching.
You are so right with the Canon R5C needing an update to fix some of the bugs and issues. I had it and returned it for a month because it was so close to being what switched me from Sony, but those issues should be things that are so easy to fix with a firmware update to take it to the potential I know it can truly reach
absolut cool video! Top Models also! In terms of dynamic range and shadow recovery and highlight recovery...what would you say is the difference between r5, c70, r5c? 14, 17, 14 stops about?
The Canon C70 has the most Dynamic Range but that's mostly more in the shadow recovery rather than the highlights, the Canon R5C has a great dynamic range just a bit less than the Canon C70 but awesome overall. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either. But the Canon C70 is the better camera for my workflow.
Nice review. Really appreciated it.😎👍
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video from Italy. I'm a filmmaker too and I have a Sony a7SIII that is great but I'd like to have built Nd in camera, Raw in camera and I like Canon colors but I'm a one man band and for wedding sometimes I need a good autofocus for gimbal movement. The autofocus of C70 in that shots it's quite good in your opinion?
Awesome thanks for watching my video! I love the colors coming out of Canon, and the autofocus on the Canon C70 is great. I use it for weddings all the time. However, I find the Sony FX3 and the Sony A7SIII to be more reliable when it comes to eye detection and autofocus. For example, the Sony A7SIII would handle the bride coming down the aisle way better than the Canon C70 as far as autofocus wise. If you want the best autofocus for weddings I would stick to Sony or go with the Canon R5 or R6. Just be mindful of overheating.
@@LALoveCreative thank you! I’ll wait the C70 mk II☺️
Incredible review.
Thanks a lot for watching.
R5 doesn’t overheat with the 1.60 firmware buddy
I'll have to check that out, I haven't had much luck with the Canon R5 when shooting and avoiding overheating. But I heard it's not overheating anymore. Thanks for the heads up.
I thought the r5 doesn't over heat after the new firmware
In my experience, the Canon R5 works better with the new firmware however it overheats a lot when I film weddings. You might get different results than me though.
It gets hot while shooting events or long hours
@@LALoveCreative Are you sure you have firmware 1.6? Since that update, I've shot weddings and entire plays and Productions in 8k for multiple hours with no sign of overheating. That's why I was a bit shocked to hear you mentioning overheating so much. It's just not an issue anymore.
@@magnus547 I have seen many people say there are experiencing no over heating unless filming 4k 60 for long time
@@The_Idea_of_Dream_Vision Yes! And I recorded a two hour event in 4k 60 with no sign of overheating nonstop (still had to deal with frustrating 30 min time limit) with no overheating warning at all!
