    8K non raw format has always been available on the R5C - even on pre production models. However it doesn't show up if you have the XF-AVC format selected. 8K is only available in MP4 format.

    To clarify, the R5C does offer 8k in non-RAW format. I believe it is h.265 and it is heavily compressed and limited to 30 fps, but it is there. Also you can shoot RAW in 6K in Super35 cropped mode. I could have sworn it also had 4K RAW but I can't remember (I rented it a few weeks ago, I don't own one so don't recall all of the resolution and frame rate options).

      @@pauleporterdp maybe your test model did not have all of the formats or the most recent firmware? It should be similar to how you would select H.265/mp4 on the C70. I don't remember exactly how it's called, but that same format on the R5C offers an 8K option but limited to 30 fps max, not 60 fps.

    I’m impressed with the performance of the FSI 45MP sensor in the R5C. Holy grail for me would be FF DGO 4K sensor in C70 body with internal ND, but that is asking for a lot! Meanwhile, I enjoy my R5C very much. Also, if R5C line skips every other line that still leaves native 4K DCI for the 120p. Personally, I think there isn’t much difference between the two at 120p except for the pixel pitch.

    I got both camera too. The ease of use of the c70 is better. The only things that could have been better for the C70 would be a bit sharper image and a bit better AF. And most importantly an other recording media like Cfast express B like in the R5C, SD cards are such a bad choice for a current cinema camera in all aspects. You can get a 512 GB CFast card for $200 and for the same card in SD you will have to spend like $500. And when you consider the speed of the Cfast cards versus the SD it's a no-brainer too.

    I kind of got boxed in to getting the C70 because the R5C was my a cam and I did not want to buy another one and have all the same issues. There really wasn't many choices for me with Canon. Every videographer I talk to told me to get the C70. Functionality-wise it is the superior camera and having all those features is amazing. However I have noticed shooting raw on both cameras presents noise that I hate in the shadows. The only way I can get rid of the noise is to overexpose my image. Although one overexposing the R5C skin tones look pretty washed out. The C70 has a smaller sensor and needs that extra light indoors. I am thinking the only way to fix this is to use expensive noise removal services or use a speed booster with the C70.

    • @pauleporterdp
      @pauleporterdp  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for watching.
      The noise in the shadows is not actually the camera is the canon Raw codec and the log 2 curve.
      It is actually normal to denoise raw you do that on a RED and ARRI as well.
      Raw is the sensor signal which also contains noise.
      In resolve there is fantastic Noise reduction built in.

    • @PizzlesTechTime
      @PizzlesTechTime Месяц назад

      @@pauleporterdp I assumed in raw it was giving you raw camera data therefore it was going to be more noisy. I have tried the VR noise removal in premiere Pro. I was talking to my friend earlier and he told me I should try DaVinci. Cap cuts denoiser worked really well surprisingly. I just don't like the color adjustment. Thank you so much!

    • @pauleporterdp

    • @pauleporterdp

      On the c70 you need the rf to ef adapter from canon. You can use the sigma on the c70 since it has a s35 sensor which the Sigma is made for.
      The R5C has a full frame sensor which will cause heavy vignetting with the Sigma

      @@pauleporterdp okay so I'm a little confused obviously. So if I shoot in 60 FPS is it using the dual gain? That is the part I don't understand. I usually try to shoot in 59.94 FPS intra frame. Just in case I want to slow it down or use the footage again in another timeline

    • @pauleporterdp
      @pauleporterdp  Месяц назад

      No problem. So yes when you shoot in 59.95 frames you still using the full dual gain technology.

      @pauleporterdp  Год назад +2

      Well when recording in XFAVC on the R5C you can only shoot in canon log 3 which is rated at 13 Stops of DR.
      In Raw you get canon log 2 which is rated at 15 Stops.
      Comparing both cameras with canon log 2 it’s as I said in the video : the c70 is maybe half a stop better due to the DGO Sensor. It’s not much and in most scenes not visible.
      But the fact that you have to shoot raw on the R5C to get clog 2 means that burn through data if you want 8k fine but it’s a lot of data.
      On the c70 you can always shoot in clog2 no matter if you shoot raw or XFAVC
      The other point I mentioned is how the sensor renders the image and the image out of the c70 just looks gorgeous and very filmic the R5 C looks nice to but very digital in my opinion.

    I just don’t understand how the R5C can have more compromises. When it is Full frame, has an evf, has 8k, over samples the 4k and 4k 60 has slightly better autofocus, takes pictures at 12/20 fps and isn’t limited by bitrate because of the sd card.
    Yes The R5C takes more work, but it’s not limited with , xlr adapter, vnD adapter, battery grip or vmount .
    There’s nothing you can do to overcome using 300mb sd card speeds , full frame(you can get close w speed booster), an evf, c70 sharpness and photography.

    • @pauleporterdp
      @pauleporterdp  Год назад

      The compromise is the limited battery life and the micro hdmi.
      If you use the camera for video only it’s fine but if you want to use it for photo as well as video and that’s how the camera is targeted then you have compromises since the rig for video you don’t want to have when taking stills
