In today's Indonesia travel vlog, we tackle our toughest challenge yet: hiking Mt. Ijen. Located in East Java, near the border of the Banyuwangi Regency, Mount Ijen is a massive volcano complex home to the world's largest highly acidic lake. Not to mention, it is one of two places on the planet where you can see blue flames emitted from the sulfuric gases igniting.
We set off early in the morning, before sunrise, to tackle the 3.8km hike to the summit. With over 600 meters (1968 ft) of elevation gain, this hike differs from your average walk in the park. It was dark, chilly, and packed with other adventure seekers hoping to glimpse the eerie blue flames.
Hiking Mount Ijen is hands down one of the best things we've done since beginning our travels in 2022, and we recommend it to anyone willing to wake up early and brave the steep hike.

Proud of you guys, you're officially Volcano climbers now. Back decades ago when I was teenager. Everytime I reached to the top, how tough I am, I was tear up. Not because I concord the mountain, It's because I was CONCORD MYSELF. 😎💪💖💝

Actually Indonesia have some of similar views like ijen..we have two in West Java kawah putih (white crater) Bandung and Garut it’s more easy to reach and the unique one is Kelimutu the three colors craters in Flores NTT ..but maybe we have more cz Indonesia is rings of fire..it’s meant the country with most active volcanos in the world..but thank you for coming nice video btw..

That hike looked brutal, but worth it. Those views! Anja hates hiking, so I'd have to drag her up that mountain..hahaha. Would love to do this though.

I love how your journey and conversation seems and sounded raw, decent & original. I climbed mount Ijen back on 2014, the time for me to climb took like almost 90 minutes, and to go down was like less than 30 minutes or so. Unforgetable journey it was. Hope you guys enjoy Indonesia!

Bromo is very easy to hike, it will be nothing for Ashley... if you really want feel the real volcano challenging hike, try Mount Rinjani in Lombok.Very hard, but It was one of the most beautiful volcano in Indonesia.
We're hiking Mount Bromo in our video that will release this Sunday. 🥰 And we would LOVE to hike Mount Rinjani. We won't be able to this time around, but we already have plans to return to Indonesia for more waterfall and volcano hunting in the future.
