Bule comes from the word boulevard, which is the area where Europeans lived in Indonesia during the colonial era. So people during the colonial era called foreigners to make communication easier. _Bule (pronounced bu-lé) is a slang word generally used in Indonesians of native European descent. This term was also previously used to describe people with light skin color._ The word "Bule" is not at all rude to us Indonesians. We always consider foreigners who come to our country as "bule".

Great content as always guys. I really appreciate you covering all walks of life and religions in your vlogs. It really highlights the humanity in all of us. Mike, I did the same thing as you in Bali in 1999 walking back from a surf at Kuta beach. Fell chest deep into one of those drains, scraped leg and chest and about 2 foot of sewage at the bottom (surfboard ok). I couldn't hit the shower and antiseptic spray quick enough!! Looking forward to your next adventure. From an Aussie living in Chiang Mai.

Just got back from Jakarta around a week ago from being there for a month, I’m missing it so much since I had a lot of family living there and stayed with my cousins and my grandma who had used to live with me. Jakarta is my favourite city because of how modern the city is and because of the people living there.

7:29 Correction here, the head of state in Indonesia is a president. Jogja which has king is a special cases because it contribution of Indonesian independence in the past. Monas actually shape like a lingga and Yoni (look it up, i don't want sound too vulgar here to explain it). But to make it short, it symbolized the unity between man and woman, symbol of new life and prosperity. It also symbolizing harmony like Yin and Yang, where Lingga representing masculinity (Yang) and Yoni representing feminity (Yin). If you go to a hindu temple in Indonesia or India, you can also found this lingga and yoni in their deepest part of the temple. It also looks like torch from far away, which is representing Indonesian's spirit for independence..pyuuh enough for me, hope you come back someday to Indonesia. There are a lot more to explore like Lombok, Labuan Bajo etc.
Ah! Our bad. I realized I made a mistake, so many things to learn and remember! Thanks for clearing that up. So much info! The symbolism really is beautiful. ☺️
I am very happy to read some comments that both of you will be back to my country. I've been following your channel since your Bali's trip it's one of the best cinematograph i ever seen. Daytime walks through Jakarta are always challenging, and it's even more so at night, even for us Jakarta natives. There's a saying that every Indonesian parent tells their child 'Use your eyes (to watch your surroundings)' perhaps to prevent situations like this. Hence, many young people nowadays walk with their gadgets all the time. For simple first aid, you can find it at a nearby minimart. Glad you're okay, Mike. Ashley seems to be a good doctor, I guess. I hope you guys find enough food since it seems hard to come by. What a challenging journey on your last day. Have a safe flight and stay healthy!
Haha, that's very good advice for parents to give their children. It was a challenging last few days, but travel can be like that sometimes and it doesn't deter us from wanting to return to Jakarta in the future. We'll see you again soon! ❤️
5:17 glad you guys are not offended at all. It's an expression some of us Indonesian use to say "foreigner". But for some more educated Indonesian, we don't use it like how those men used in your video. The tone and the loudness might make other foreigner offended. But I can assure you there's nothing negative in "bule". And you responded it properly already👍🏽👍🏽 I'm sorry for the wound Mike. It's your first experience in Jakarta and you're into the sewer already. Speedy recovery Mike. Welcome to Jakarta. Hope you guys have a great wonderful time in Jakarta
That fall Mike had was so scary..! But I am glad that it wasn’t worse and deeper into that disgusting sewage pit and glad that you guys made it back to the pod hotel and found first aid supplies!! 😢❤
I feel sorry the streets of Jakarta have hurt you, and thank you for coming to Indonesia starting from Bali, unfortunatelly you didn't have time to visit my city Semarang, hopefully next time you can visit Indonesia again
Sorry for your accident mike. Means you must come here again because every time you see that injured you will remember us😊 See you again Mike and Ashley. I really enjoy all your video. If come again you must visit my city Nusa Tenggara Timur - Flores
It’s ok! And you’re right, a forever memory of my time in Indonesia! We will 100% return to Indonesia at some point, and we’d love to go to Flores. It looks beautiful. ☺️🫶
Thank you for visiting & exploring our country 🙏🙏 I've been following both of your videos since your first video in Indonesia. You guys are amazing.👍 Sorry if there is any bad treatment from our Indonesian brothers and sisters. Sorry, my English is bad.😅 from Google Translate.🤣
Thank you so much for watching! 🥺🫶 That’s amazing! No one in Indonesia has ever treated us with anything other than kindness! We just wanted to ask about bule, as we knew the meaning, but weren’t sure if it was ever used negatively. Thanks for your kind words and support, and I’m sure your English is much better than our Bahasa! 😅😂🥰🫶
Thank you so much! This small incident won't deter us from returning. Indonesia is now one of our favorite countries and we can't live the rest of our lives without exploring more of the islands and trying the delicious food. We were so close to booking plane tickets already, but there are a few more countries we want to check off our list before we do. We'll see you again soon! ❤️❤️❤️
come back soon guys!! Indonesia is a large country that you're gonna miss it alot hehehe.. Thank you for your patience in your effort to explore and to deals with this hustling and bustling while you were here.. safe trip home guys.. go home, get some rest..and apply for new visa to Indonesia :)
We already miss it a lot! 😭😭 It was our pleasure to explore Indonesia and its capital city! Next time we come back, it will have a new capital we’re told. 😱 We’re not going home quite yet, but when we do rest and relax, we’ll make our way back to Indonesia! We look forward to exploring more. Thanks for the support! ☺️🥰🫶🙏
Jakarta is like a telenovela with a million plot twists. You never know what's around the corner - a hidden gem, a traffic jam, or a durian vendor, hence, the smell. I suddenly remembered the time I spent there to film one of our TV show episode in Bali. It felt like I need to go back!
Poster child for walking in SE Asia. The dialogue at the beginning and end is so well written. It’s like a poem. How can you describe this experience to someone through a video? There’s so much more.
Wow cool, you're made a beautiful video about my homeland. Btw, I was born and grew up in Jakarta and I was worked 3 years as graphic designer just next street from Istiqlal mosque at Jl Veteran 1.But are you missed Free car day event at the weekend in Jakarta ?. And sorry for your accident.
0:19 Let alone you man I have also experienced like you, falling onto the sidewalk, uniquely it was in the Rasuna Said office area of the Kadin building, there was no reporting that there was a section of open sidewalk to be repaired, I think everyone should be involved in reporting to the government, so that the sidewalk is improved, so that it is suitable for pedestrians.
It would make sense. At least put some cones out or something! 😅 Not all of us can/want to ride a bike or pay for a taxi around. But hey, that’s part of travel I suppose. Now I’ve just learned to watch more carefully where I step. 😂
Oh poor mike got injure be notice of trotoar in lndonesia guys. We hope have wonderful memorables in ours country. That you could share to yours relative or kids thats their parents had travel from bali to java
Thank you MIke and Ashley for spending your time in my country. I don't know how to express my feelings, your video is absolutely perfect from the beginning until the end. Hopefully all the good things about Indonesia will remain in your memory eternally. Terima Kasih! :D

Oh ... my ... it's so sad that it's the final vlog of Indonesia series. I hope you two will come back again soon and explore another part of this country. travel safe Mike & Ashley.
We know! 😭😭😭 It was sad for us as well. Even when going back and editing, it made us sad to finish the series. We plan on returning one day to continue our exploration of this amazing country. There’s still so much left to see and food to try! Terima Kasih! ☺️🥰🙏
Oh my god.. we are so sorry you have this kind of bad accident.. we re so sorry. 🙏🙏🙏. Get well soon for your wound
No need to be sorry! Things like this can happen anywhere. Thank you for your well-wishes. 🥰❤️
4:19 Dalam masyarakat Indonesia, kata bule untuk menyebut orang mancanegara.Jadi jangan khawatir ,Itu bukan merendahkan 🙏
That’s what we figured, but it’s always good to ask. Usually it’s kids saying it. 😂
I am very happy to read some comments that both of you will be back to my country. I've been following your channel since your Bali's trip it's one of the best cinematograph i ever seen. I loved it and realized that my country is very rich. I can't wait to see you both exploring Indonesia again soon🫶🏻✨
Aw, thank you so much! 🥰🥰 This comment just warmed our hearts. We’re so happy you have enjoyed watching our time in Indonesia. We do plan to return when we are able to. There’s so much beauty to see. We’re really happy you’ve enjoyed the quality of our vlogs as well. This made us so happy to hear. Thank you for your kind words and support. 🥰🫶
Brother you're such a great story teller.. another fantastic video my friends 😊😊😊
Aw, thanks so much! We're trying to improve our storytelling, so this means a lot! 🙏
Look forward too see ypu both come back to beautiful and warm heart Indonesia Mike & Ashley 😊😇🇮🇩
Thanks so much! We look forward to being able to come back as well. 🙏🙏
And you responded it properly already👍🏽👍🏽
I'm sorry for the wound Mike. It's your first experience in Jakarta and you're into the sewer already.
Speedy recovery Mike.
Welcome to Jakarta. Hope you guys have a great wonderful time in Jakarta
Thanks so much! And thanks for clarifying. We weren’t offended… just curious. And yea, haha, leave it up to me to fall in a hole on night two! 😅😂
5:15 bule is not perceived as negative in our language dont worry. We just say people from outside Indonesia especially from the west as ‘bule’.😊
That's what we figured. Thank you for letting us know! 🙏
it's sad to see you guys leaving, wishing you guys all the best to anywhere you go!❤
you're welcome to come back anytime in here guys
Thank you so much! We were sad to leave, but we know it won't be too long before we return. 🙏❤️
Big love from Indonesia❤
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰🫶🫶
Get well soon for ur leg mike
Thanks! I’m all better now. 👌
That fall Mike had was so scary..! But I am glad that it wasn’t worse and deeper into that disgusting sewage pit and glad that you guys made it back to the pod hotel and found first aid supplies!! 😢❤
Yeah, it was a pretty jarring experience! It's all good now, though. Thankfully, the capsule hotel was awesome and had everything we needed. 🙏❤️
You have a great soul and spirit
Peace....iyan from JKT
That is such a kind comment, thank you so much! 🙏❤️

Sorry if there is any bad treatment from our Indonesian brothers and sisters.
Sorry, my English is bad.😅
from Google Translate.🤣
Thank you so much for watching! 🥺🫶
That’s amazing!

Jalan Sabang, close to Monas, at night there are lots of typical Indonesian culinary vendors, I hope you both enjoy the food
Mmm. That sounds delicious! We’ve been missing Indonesian food so much lately!

It was our pleasure to explore Indonesia and its capital city! Next time we come back, it will have a new capital we’re told. 😱

Please comeback soon, see you guys ❤
We would love to! ☺️🫶 We can’t wait.
Jakarta is like a telenovela with a million plot twists. You never know what's around the corner - a hidden gem, a traffic jam, or a durian vendor, hence, the smell. I suddenly remembered the time I spent there to film one of our TV show episode in Bali. It felt like I need to go back!
Haha it certainly is! That's a perfect way to put it. 🤣
Poster child for walking in SE Asia.
The dialogue at the beginning and end is so well written. It’s like a poem.
How can you describe this experience to someone through a video? There’s so much more.
Haha, I’d let them make a poster outta me! And thanks Richard. We’re trying to work on our storytelling a bit more in our newer videos. ☺️
thx for visit Indonesia 🙏
No worries! We love Indonesia! 🫶🇮🇩
Thanks so much! And yeah, we had planned to explore the Free Car Day event, but Mike wasn't feeling well. Next time! ❤️
See u again guys...
Absolutely! 🫶🇮🇩🥰
ขอบคุณที่พาไปเที่ยวกรุงการ์ตาครับ ทุกอย่างในเมืองมันดูน่าทึ่งจริงๆ
Jakarta is an incredible city, even with the wonky streets. 😂😅
See you again soon! ❤️❤️❤️
We can't wait! 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you! We have so many fond memories of our time there and will be sure to share them with our friends and family. Until next time! ❤️🫶
