RUclips is the only social media account I have. I deleted all my other social media accounts Jan. 2020. I couldn't deal with it anymore. Everyone lies and when I started seeing my real friends lying and pretending to be someone or something they were not, I couldn't do it anymore.

Same here. I deal with all of community issues in person. It does affect your job apps though because recruiters like to check your socials over believing you in an interview.

Another tricky aspect of social media that may deserve regulation is the use of bots to impersonate people and sway the perception that certain things are popular or not.
exactly, but the bot market is ust that a market. An interesting question woul be how to very and what type of ml/ai data collection we allow

I agree with Chico about growing up in the 90s with no internet and having to actually do research in the library, Encyclopedia Britannica. Information was not a Google search away. And some of the information is wrong. I'm old school and as long as social media is fun, that's fine. But when it becomes hateful and threatening, there lies the problem.
You do realize "some of the info is wrong" was also a thing in the 90's at the library. But you were much less likely to find out just how wrong it really is during that time before the information age we are currently in.
Life is harmful and threatening, this is a non-sequester.
This new format is really good. The importance of production. Great conversation.
I have to give Allison this she's not afraid to go into unfamiliar spaces and voice her opinion and learn another prospective.

Long time game journalist here and game advocate. I predate social media. I am sick to death of the argument Lunell brought up saying games are like guns. No game controller on earth has ever felt like a gun. Not one. My daughter is Gen Z. Brought up on Social Media and video games. I’m a single mother. Worked full time and had a full time side hustle. My daughter turns 20 in 2 weeks. She’s a 2nd degree black belt, violinist, college sophmore, art major. And though mom plays games (now making one) for a living, I did NOT stick her in front of the TV as a baby sitter.
I had all of her social media accounts, emails and I controlled WiFi and phone and console with touch of a button.
Issue here is, some folk don’t wanna parent or have an excuse or someone to blame for their own parents shortcomings and tech illiteracy. I came from the hood, drug addiction mother,absent father, so how come I know better than a panel of folk there and in the white house how to raise a decent human, without taking away her access to social media? Stop being afraid of tech and learn how to use it so you can teach you kid. This discussion is old and tired. Same arguments rehashed, it instead of MySpace now it’s instagram. Do better!

So dead naming people is cool? Doxxing the site so everyone can go see other people, over their protected speech is a recipe for disaster.
People can do and say what they want if y’all don’t like it then don’t use social media if you can’t stand seeing other peoples opinions. Censorship is already getting out of hand nobody can say anything anymore and no one can make jokes with your friends everyone gets their accounts banned. Censorship needs to be put to an end if you don’t like what you see online then don’t use it!! period

I agree that social media needs to be regulated. Too much misinformation is being pit on these platforms and ppl are not smart enough to follow their own minds. They celebrity worship too much and that's a problem..

The best regulation is self regulation, but the individual is paramount in these times, and so there are no common standards, which makes regulation even more difficult. As with everything else negative in society, we seem to suffer it worst, whether the source of these negatives is external or internal in origin.
