- I went on a overnight wild camp on Dartmoor national park with Lee from Burton Outdoors ( Channel Link / @burtonoutdoors )
This was a summer trip and we were hoping for sunsets and sunrises with the spectacular backdrop of Dartmoor, but as is usual with my visits to Dartmoor the weather turned nasty overnight. we woke up to gale force winds and driving rain and thick fog, making breaking down camp then hiking out very interesting.

Yep dartmoor can switch and be brutal almost at the drop of a hat! Nice vid 👍
Hi lads oh my what a crazy weather what a shame your wild camping trip spoiled love your tents awsome equipment I'm enjoying your video fun being with you both to safe journey back down and home peace love 🙂🙂🙂🙂😃😃😃😃🥰🥰🥰🥰
Reminds me of a similar experience I had while camping in the isle of wight on a windswept cliff. It's amazing and altogether frightening to hear the wailing winds and the violent battering of the tent canvas. I was pitched in a tent designed around the idea of a wind tunnel that funnelled winds directly through as opposed to around, and let me tell you there where moments where the apex of the tent was whipping against the tip of my nose.
Come the next morning we was one of the only tents left standing, a testament to its design. Some with supports as thick as scaffold bars were left badly buckled, others had completely blown away, and now torn, and shrewn in dissaray across hedgerows.
Needless to say never again! For the best part of 12 hours and a long sleepless night between hunkering down shatting my pants that any second the tent would be literally torn apart from the seams, and frantic moments of wrestling with the outside elements to re secure tent pegs and make haste repairs it was a hellraising experience to say, one could even argue at times foolish, but still rather cool to see lol
Great video I came from South Yorkshire, in early October of this year and Wild Camped around Meldon Reservoir, Dartmoor! Red Flags were up so kept to the river area, and when it comes to backpacks and Ospreys, I treated myself to the Osprey Aether 85+ and can agree with you, that the suspension system on these Ospreys reduces massively the feel of the weight on your back. Great bit of kit and well worth the investment, especially with the lifetime guarantee! Great to see how you buddies encouraged each other, the first couple of miles is always the worst for the legs. Liked and Subscribed.
Hey bud, just fished this comment out of the held for review section for some reason.
Yeah I’m still loving my Osprey, so comfy!
Walking is always easier with a bit of company. I’m getting fitter every trip too.
Appreciate you watching and commenting mate.

Dan
@@CampLifeBushcraft No worries, I'm so happy I invested in my Osprey too. Be safe
Excellent! Very entertaining video, well done both of you x
Thanks Lindsey. It was a tough one, but lots of fun.
Great video Dan, looks like you had a good time in the wind and rain, some great views as well, thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Mick, the morning was brutal but so much fun. I enjoyed the challenge.
Me and my dog love your vid. He can't wait to get out lol. Well done 👏✔
Ah I missed this... will catch up later 👍🏼👍🏼
😘
Hey nice edition and place.
Thank you 🙏
Great filming - loved it ! -thank you for sharing
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the nice comment.
Dan 👍
Thank you so much...Have very nice Beautiful Day !!!..And very nice Beautiful the palaces !!!...
Thank you.. you as well 👍
Thank you for making this video. I REALLY enjoyed watching this
My pleasure, I enjoyed making it 😁👍
What a fantastic trip! Well done for coping with the wild elements out there! Makes it memorable! Yeah! :)
It was a lot of fun, it made me think about a slightly bigger tent with more of a vestibule though!
Thank you for watching 👍
Dartmoor never disappoints. Thanks for all your efforts trying to film while the wind was knocking the camera about! See you on the next adventure Dan! Mr Burton seems to be the right company for this endeavor. 🌬⛺🌪🌪🌪🌪
Lee’s a top guy, I really enjoyed this trip, even though I still haven’t seen a sunset from the moors. (Next time)
The morning was so brutal, i wanted to film more but was fighting a losing battle with my tripod. Got it wedged up against my bag in the end for a few minutes but once we started to head down the hill the camera had to go away in favour of concentrating on remaining upright myself.
But I loved it, nothing like a challenge to remind you to enjoy life. 😁👍
Mate, great vid thanks for sharing, harsh conditions, brilliant, stay safe out there ...
Thanks Paul, it was brutal in the morning, but loads of fun.
Thanks for watching.
Have a good weekend 👍
A really wonderful camp even though the weather didn't cooperate. I love the views. ❤👍
Thanks, it was great. I’d like to have seen a sunset but I wasn’t dissatisfied with the trip. The morning was so brutal which was great fun. I like a challenge 😁👍
Great video and adventure Dan.
Thanks Danny 👍
Thanks. I watched in one sitting.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Wowwoww such a very nice view i wish someday i may experience to make a campaign down the hill.thank you guys for sharing this beautiful video.😊😍😍😍
I’m glad you enjoyed it, it was a tough trip but so much fun.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a nice comment.
Have a good weekend.
Dan
Cheers from across the pond. I love the ambient footage set to music, awesome video man! I really need to get over there some day
Hey, thanks Max, really glad you enjoyed it. thank you for watching.
Thank you...
Crazy weather, awesome video
Tell me about it, one day I will see a sunset out there!
I really enjoyed this video, great.
Thanks Ken, I liked making it.. the morning was a brutal challenge but so much fun 👍
Nothing like an exotic break Dan.
It was fun! 😁
Very nice video!!Good to see some people going on even in "bad" weahter
It was 30 plus the day before! Always the way 😝
Aaaah Dartmoor.....just throws everything at you
I love it, but just once I'd like a sunny day : )
Looks like you and Lee had a great time even with that wind and rain atvb jimmy 😎😎
Yeah mate, it was great fun. But one day I want to see a sunset out there ☹️
I'm amazed at how bad the weather is for summertime in Dartmoor. It looked like you had a nice little puddle for water up there, great for filtering 😁
I've used the klymit static v standard for the last year or 2 and I love it. The luxe version looks a proper beast! I've got to stop making excuses and get myself down there, thanks for sharing 👍
It always seems bad up there, no matter the season, it seems to have its own climate.
I’m loving that new mat, used it a few times now.. so comfy 😁👍
nice trip mate good to see the banshee in bad weather👍👍🤙🤙
It’s pretty bomb proof, I always feel safe in it.. but the lack of space was telling on this one. Couldn’t make coffee! ☹️
I've been eagerly awaiting this one, Lee posted his last week. This was pretty awesome..... mainly because it wasn't me struggling in the rain😜🤣😂❗️I'm grinning like a wide-mouthed frog! 🐸❗️seriously though, that's pretty wild stuff😳❗️Great drone- flying weather 😳😲😜🤣❗️🤣👏👏👏Dan's still filming, climbing up the thigh-deep grass-gully..... meanwhile Lee's using his hands to climb behind him 😂🤣😜👍....hardcore🤠😎👍. I think your camera tripod finished off Lee's whisky.... it took an impromptu 'lie- down' ..... a few times 😁👍.
It was so much fun, bloody knackered after though! For the middle of summer it was a shocker, it had been 30 plus the day before 🙄
Dartmoor doesn’t seem to conform to the rest of the country.
I wanted to film more in the morning but it just wasn’t possible, the camera wouldn’t stand up and even I needed two hands on the decent 😆
I enjoyed watching this at 3.42 am in the morning! Couldn't sleep but it's a comfort to hear the wind and the rain hitting your sturdy tent that I eventually fell off to sleep👍😆
Just subscribed so can't wait to see more tent adventures👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
hope you sleep better tonight : )
Cor blast, that certainly was blowing a hoolie, but still looked a good camp Dan. As I said in Lee's video, definitely the new Ant and Dec 😁 ATB Rob
It was mental in the morning, couldn’t believe it. The day before it was 30 plus degrees!
Good fun though 😝
Nice trip great views
Thanks 🙏
Awesome location. 💖🏕👍
Thanks 🙏
Love your film, you always seem to have bad weather when you come down to dartmoor.
Me and kids loved watching as we camped up on Steeperton a few weeks ago, it was windy but not as bad as your stay. We managed to get in behind the rocks out the wind and had a stunning sunset. One day I will get the film done.
It has become a life goal to watch a sunset on Dartmoor.
Because I live quite far away I have to plan these kinds of trips in advance, so the weather is always going to be pot luck, but one day I will get lucky.
This was so much fun though, the hike was pretty dry and I got pitched without being too wet.. so small mercy’s.
But the morning was brutal, it was a struggle staying upright coming down the hill and navigating to Oke tor was funny as it disappeared in the fog. But we had a blast, Lee is great company.
We’re you tucked behind the Rocks where the marsh grass grows?
We looked at pitching there ourselves but it was a tight space and those water plants caught me out before with bad weather.
@@CampLifeBushcraft yes, it was a narrow spot just wide enough for tent and to pass, but it was out of the wind. One day everything will aline and u will get the sunrise.
I hope so 😆
Lee and Dan, you’re good sports. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Always good to see what good sports will do in one night of some wind and rain. I wonder if you might be up to more than one night, say... I’m josh’en. I’m ‘ol retired Army. We’ve seen a lot. Texas
Nice to see you both in the hills. Enjoyed that one. Hot food on a cold and windy day is a must👍 I suspect you didnt get much sleep with all the Techno music blaring from your neighbours tent. I bet he doesnt sleep😀 atb Joss
LOL Joss
He only ever gets a few hours.. has to wait for me to get up quite regularly.. I slept through that nasty weather, it started blowing bad around midnight.. I slept like a baby 😆
It was good to be out on the moors again, but I’d love to see a sunset one day!
Still good fun and great company so no complaints.
thats a proper wildcamp cold wet and windy lol atb kev
Cheers Kev 👍
Great vid dan 👍🏻
J&S Outdoors thanks mate, it was hairy in the morning but great fun 👍
Hi Dan , You can't beat a good Banshee tent , I agree that there is not much headroom , but It will withstand almost anything .
Totally agree, I trust mine implicitly 👍
Great vid, your Banshee 200 stood up way better than ours on our last vid, probably set it up better mind ;) have a great year
Thanks guys 😁
@@CampLifeBushcraft No worries, all the best bud
Hope you dont mind....but i did laugh a little bit watching you take the tents down.
I laughed at the morning too when I was editing it.. it was brutal but I do like a challenge.
The last time I tried to camp on there we couldn't get over the river as it was flooded 😬
Glad to see I'm not the only one who has crap weather on Dartmoor Lol
Thanks for sharing
ATB Mike
StayCornish😬
I’ve never been on a nice day.. it’s getting to be a joke. I see so many people camping out there having lovely sunsets etc. ....One day!
Maybe the nice weather videos were "photo shopped"
😆😆
Dave Friz my last camp was bloody boiling hot 🥵
2 minutes in I have the same pack there great😎😎
I can’t believe how comfortable it is compared with my previous pack. So good!
I hope that horror show was worth the hits and views. Too funny.
That was pretty brutal Dan... Nice to see you out on the open countryside instead of a woodland chap... Great to have the man the legend B.O with you. Did he behave himself? Great vid as usual. ATB Dave 👍
Couldn’t believe it, it was 30 plus the day before.. always seems to be the way when I go down there. Still never watched the sunset.. it’s become a life goal.
Lee was great company as usual, although I was concerned I’d break him on this one 😆😆
Thanks for watching mate
Dan
😂😂 that had me in stitches!! Ya camera kept falling over... and a shoutout 🙏🏼 and even two screen slaps! 🤚🏼😂😂 glad I caught up! Thanks buddy!
Man, that was some serious wind in the morning, looked a nice spot tho! And the pad looked the biz too. Nice one dan, thanks for sharing and sorry I was late to the party! (To be fair I think I was away when you uploaded 😉)
Have a good weekend mate
Ash 🏕
I wanted to film more in the morning but it was hard enough walking in a straight line without holding a camera! But it was great fun.
Yep I went all Ashley with my camera on this one. Imitation is a form of flattery xx
Camp Life bushcraft 😂 well next time I expect a swim in that sludge you waded through to get to that island 😆😉 I would like to head to Dartmoor at some point I actually used to live near okehampton when I was younger...
catch ya later mate 🙏🏼✌🏼☮️ x
Ash Outdoors UK you’re always welcome on a trip with me mate.
Next time I’m planning a Dartmoor visit with Lee I’ll let you know. If you fancy it come along 👍
Camp Life bushcraft for sure mate, would love that! Will have to be next year now for me tho... got a busy few months! Keep me in the loop 😊
Ash Outdoors UK cool man, for sure... probably be next spring for us too 👍
Hi Dan, Hi Lee. It’s only the beginning of the video and when you were on top of the huge rock observing your surroundings, thank goodness you weren’t wearing pants with any side snaps or you would have given us a different view. Lol. This is going to be a wild camping video. Thanks guys. And of course I cannot forget to say hello to my favorite friend sweet Tink. She probably wouldn’t have liked that situation very much. BTW, I’m not sure if you could get one of those sac like attachments to connect to the sleeping pad and fill it with air and compress it into the pad? It may have to have been included or hopefully added. It also prevents moisture getting inside as well. See you on the next one. ATB.
It was brutal in the morning, but loads of fun. Tink would have hated it 😬
I think those bags are called a snozzle I was looking at them the other day.
Good old English summer weather. Try yer Trangia in that !
Yeah it was a bit blowie!
Dan, great trip there. Your little tent did really well, and your new mat looked, well, expansive! I don't generally suffer problems with wind I am glad to say, but I do sympathise with you. Thank you for sharing with us, greets from warm and cloudy🙄 Wales Dave G.
That tent is bomb proof, I have complete faith that it will withstand a lot of punishment, but the lack of space was telling in the morning... no coffee!
And the mat is like a single bed, the bad weather started up as we went to bed, and I slept through most of it. 😆👌
Thanks for watching mate, have a good weekend 👍
Sounds good the rain and windy but its rough your situation it might be your tent blowing the wind you awake without tent😂
That tent is a sturdy little thing. I have faith in it 😁👍
Man that was good from your perspective, "°Dan chats to Mr Burton Outdoors on camera whilst Mr B.O's trying to get half a flapjack bar out of his teeth" 🤣😂🤣 the face I'm pulling 😁 Great viddy I felt like I was there! Did you by any chance capture my tent pole bag disappearing on film? #LeftSomeTrace 😟
Sorry I didn’t realise you were doing dental hygiene 😝 could of been worse, you could have been peeing off the edge!
There was a carrier sliding awY but you grabbed it, don’t remember anything else in the raw footage.
It was a tough slog at times but I really enjoyed it, I hope we can do it again sometime.
Have a good weekend mate
xxx
@@CampLifeBushcraft I'm defo up for more Dartmoor... perhaps in a less windy location next time 😉👍👍👍
Excellent 👍
I am all jelly of your back yards. Be safe guys and do it again next weekend. Next time bring the kites.
Haha Dave 😝👍
:0 6k good job
Thanks! 😁
Where were the waders?
I do sympathise with you having travelled so far to be rained on in the summer, but that's Dartmoor I'm afraid. And it does make it more of an adventure.
It’s always going to be pot luck for me as I have to plan these trips in advance due to travel and kids etc.. but one day I will get lucky... it’s becoming a life goal to see a sunset on the moor. So I’ll be back.
This was still great fun though, a nice pleasant hike and good company over the evening. The morning was brutal, but also good fun, a bit of adversity reminds us that we are alive.
LOL..i lost it when the camera blew over three times! :) :)
It was a good camp, lots of fun!
Brilliant 👍
The true Dartmoor experience lol
Still you'll remember that one for a long time 🤣
Did I just see that u are back at Dartmoor tonight ?
Don't they give thunder storms lol
Looking forward to the next video 👍
Thanks mate, it was great, brutal in the morning but I like a challenge.
But one day I want to see a sunset on the moors!
I was due to go with my wife but we scrapped it due to the lightning. We went to the woods instead and made a shelter with no metal involved.. seemed a more sensible idea 😆😝
@@CampLifeBushcraft probably for the best 👍
For sure 👍
This video made me laugh when the weather was so strong
yeah, it got a bit hairy overnight!
Just a slight breeze but a flesh wound from killer bunnies.
Nice vid guys what is that hut thing for.
it is the shooting place for the military firing range nearby.
Please could u do a vid on how to waterproof a tent with seal & spray please thanks 😀
you will love that sleeping pad, no rolling off, great for wide shoulder long legs
I do love it.. had a while now.. I sleep like a baby on it 🙂
Great video especially in them conditions what a shame about the weather. My last camp on Dartmoor we was going to camp at Steeperton Tor but decided it was to windy so we camped down in that valley and even though we didn't have the views it was still a stunning location. Your video quality seemed a lot better in this video was you shooting 60 FPS or 4K? 😁👍
Cheers mate, yeah it was blowie but we were determined to be up high!
I’ve switched back to 60 FPS, I used to use it all the time but changed to 24 to try it out. I think I prefer 60 overall.
Beach camping video coming on Friday, it’s pretty good, give it a watch when you get time 👍
@@CampLifeBushcraft Thanks mate I might give that a go it seems to be much better will have to make sure I've got space on my phone. I will try and watch as soon as it comes out but I've really fallen behind on you tube lately with everyone's videos. Hope your keeping well and hopefully we can get a camp together soon😁👍
i could not walk all that way just for one night and go home next day not for me but its every one to there own
You’re no lightweight!😂
haha, thank you : )
The hut is a lookout point for the military range and the pole is a flag pole... they have to fly a red flag from sunrise if they will be doing live firing that day... there is also a red light that illuminates at night and poor visibility. Was once woken at 6am by a range warden when wild camping on Oke Tor. ... once he was happy we would be walking the opposite way to the live firing he left us alone.
We worked the hut out after looking at the other side to where we were eating, great field of view over the range.
I mentioned the range on camera but the audio was pants so I had to cut it out.
I really like Oke tor and would like to camp there one day, but it does seem to be a busy place. Too many bogeys 😂
Cheap ain't always better
Buy cheap, buy twice IMHO
Referring to what?
Michael Ok so........wdym.
im sure it sucks for you, but oddly enough I find vids of camping (at least with shelter) in wind or heavy snow to be relaxing.
at your expense though.. sorry and thanks.
No problem, it was a blast! I quite enjoy the challenge of these kinds of trips.
Summer in England ?
Yep, 30 plus the day before 🙄😝
The sheep comment was creepy as dude.
