It definitely works in his favor. I was in another country in 2003 visiting family. 12 years old, and the Without Me music video came on the TV.
I liked it so much, my cousins bought me the album and showed me how to find tracks on a CD player. The Eminem show was my first album and my first entry into rap and music as a whole. I still fuck with 90s Eminems young Shady side, even though I know its never coming back.
I can see why others rappers have a bad taste in their mouth because of it. He changed rap and gave it a new face. But by doing so, he opened up the genre to a lot of people.

It's a trilogy pretty much, after "My Name Is", and "The Real Slim Shady", he pretty much had to make "Without Me."
Edit: He doesn't even really like these songs, after hearing them over and over and over again haha.

I'm from Mexico. In that time (2003 I guess) there was a music channel called Telehit, and they had a show called Top 10 where people voted for the best song videos. For 6 weeks in a row, Without me was number 1. I was 13 years old at that time, I didn't listen to rap whatsoever, but I knew a lot of Eminem's songs. Eminem was huge in Mexico.

Without Me is pretty much a shock value song. He pretty much talks about how the media and the FCC don't want him to be this outrageous, lunatic, child-endangering ticking time bomb for the world to see. Em is pretty much putting the middle finger up to them and making a joke song about it... The man is clever, even in his youth.
