Are you a Safari user? If so, why do you prefer it to Chrome (or any other browser for that matter)?
I’ve found pinned tabs don’t “stay” with safari when you shut down or close safari - is this normal that they all disappear?
Hi Mark,
I use Safari the majority of the time. It's seems to be less resource intensive and I feel that I have more privacy compared to Google.
Thank you very much for the clarification of Tab groups as I was of the same understanding as you originally were.
I’ve been on Firefox for years, and am very used to their method of tab pinning. I’ve been playing with Edge too, but not chrome. I’ll give safari a fresh look when I purchase my next Mac mini. (Fingers crossed, so to be updated.)
Have always preferred Safari. Tried Chrome at various times and it’s always a bit meh! I find Safari faster and renders text much better.
@@BenjaminMarshan it’s a setting to keep them - you can also go menu and say open all raves from last session.
I stumbled upon this channel while searching videos about iPhone 13 mini. Great pacing, narration, love that there is no background music and the intro is also without sound, nice for a change. Your videos are probably the only ones that I don't watch in Picture in Picture mode at 1.25x while working on something else
That means a lot - thanks!
I like Safari, it’s fast and easy to use. Chrome is fine, but a bit clunky. Also (whisper it)… I don’t mind ‘Edge’ ( *runs away* )
Edge is great!
I concur, safari is my default, but I use edge as my development browser - huge improvement over chrome in my experience.
Ah duck duck go is best, no tracking and you see everything hahahah
Edge was very useful for pdf on my surface laptop
Thank you for pointing out the beauty of Groups. As you use it for blogging, I use it for writing software and hardware reviews. And as far as Reader Mode, the keyboard shortcut is shift-command -R.
Pinned websites is fantastic. Thanks for the information.
I think an awesome feature to share/explain is how to use the bookmarks/favorites. I know its a simple thing but not even I know how to use it much and I've been using Safari as a student for a few years now haha
So useful Mark! Loved the clarification one Tab Groups since I, too, found many extraneous websites being attached to my tab group I had defined. Also the device-to-device sharing was great to learn. Thank you!
No probs!
Thank you, this was great Mark! I love that you did a video on this. Super helpful! I've loved using Safari since you recommended it and noticed some of the quirks that you mentioned. But I still love it!
Ah, thanks!
Your voice and English language sound like a song! Perfect contents as well! Thank you, Mark! Learnt a few things I did not know. 👍
Just recently found this channel when I gained recent interest in the AirPods max. Mark had several phenomenal reviews of those headphones and, just like those videos, this one gives great insight and informs viewers of Information that they wouldn't have known otherwise. I thoroughly enjoy the honesty and transparency of these videos as well as how well they are shot and edited. Seriously surprised that his subscriber count is not higher and I'm happy to add to that number.
That's incredibly kind, Koen - thank you!
Thanks for another great video Mark!! Always look forward to your uploads
Ah, thanks!
I’m slowly moving over from Firefox to Safari and I’m kind of liking it. I didn’t understand how tab groups worked to thank you 😅
Great informative video Mark, picked up some tips today i never new about. Thanks 👍
No problem!
Well done Mark. Thanks for the tips and your efforts. Some of these were unknown to me. I really like Tabs.
Thanks!
The reason I switched to Safari is tab groups. Literally life saving...I research many cases and sometimes I get stuck and start working on a different case. I save my tab group and come back some other day to finish it.
Great video!!!!! Very informative!!!! Love all of these tips ❤
I love this comment!
I use Safari as my default browser, I occasionally use Chrome if Safari doesn't render a site properly. Like you I couldn't understand what Tab Groups were supposed to accomplish - I kept closing various tabs & opening others, immediately ruining my carefully created group. Your description of the better way to use them was brilliant - thanks! BTW, I really love your channel - great content very well delivered!
Thank you for this comment! I was wondering if I could use Chrome for certain sites that didn't work well on Safari!
Outstanding! Thank you, for sharing! I had no idea how much more useful Safari could be to me.
Awesome!
Fantastic insight into Safari. I have recently started to use it and this has arrived in a very timely manner. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I use Reader view to make PDFs of web articles. You can adjust the text size so that the PDF is not too many pages. Thanks for your excellent content!
Crackin and informative. Much obliged. Cheerz
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great vid, thank you! I'm fairly new to Apple so this is very helpful.
MORE SAFARI TIPS! Thank you!
Not using Chrome places me in a smart elite who does not want to be told what Google thinks is the right to think 😇😊 Your tutorial is the best on tab's group/grouping on the YT. Thanks! But pls, the BBC??? ;)
I use safari!! Brilliant video . Learnt so much . Thank you 😊
Tab groups is amazing!
That was a great video I’ve learned a lot of handy tips on how to use safari thanks
Awesome - that's why I do this :)
bloody hell mate that was a great video
Ah, thanks!
Well...I have been using Safari for a few months and hadn't a clue about the capabilities. Thank you very much for this excellent insight.
You're very welcome!
Reading list is another great option I've found for saving web pages you'd like to read in the immediate future without having to look into bookmarked folders.
Good tip. I use it occasionally, but it has never really stuck for me.
Reading list is so underrated. I use it often to save articles for later. They are there when I want them. Easy to locate, organized and ready to be read 👏🏼
Thank you, some helpful tips there! Also, where is your lamp from? I love it! :)
You can also set Safari to always open certain websites in reader view. Very useful.
Can you explain how that is done? I would like to learn that trick.
@@javtimestwo Right click on the URL bar and you get a pop up which asks you to go to settings, "use reader when available" is one of the options. It works on iPad as well.
Excellent
For a macos noob, very handy, thanks
Super video.
Thanks!
icloud keychain can now work on windows and chrome. good tips. i learned some things
Thank you
Have you thought of writing a book: “ Getting the Best out of Your Mac”? I’d buy it.
Nope! But one day... maybe!
yes please
On a Mac I use Safari because:
Better for your battery life
It’s faster then chrome
Better for your privacy
Build in 2fa generator
Syncs better with your other apple devices
Supports Apple Pay on websites
Has a good reader mode
I agree with u but chrome is faster I think, I constantly got 290 on speedometer 2.0 on chrome and 270 on safari. I still prefer safari tho
@@mushafzarrar3168in the latest chrome version they indeed are faster. Haven’t tested the nightly build from safari to see what there improvements are. I think I’m the next OS X release they will improve safari again.
@@Visualization1 sorry what's the nightly build?
Mark, I'm trying to learn Safari and found your slow precise explanations very helpful for a senior to understand. Do you have other youtube videos I can check out? Thank you Richard
That's great to hear, Richard! This playlist might help: ruclips.net/p/PLiWTNBoaJU5-iDDMjP6QqY2SYS8_d2vHD
Hey Dude, Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial.
A question, the last feature that you explained, I can not see it on my iPhone... when I hit the share button while using safari on iPhone 13, it does not give me the option of sharing it to My MacBook Pro. Help please?
Very nice. I’ll still use Chrome as I am mainly on Windows for work but for home use? I think Safari will be added to my daily use. Thanks.
Very nice job. I exclusively use safari but unfortunately there are times when some websites don’t seem to work with it.
I didn't get tab groups either. Still hate what Apple did to the sidebar. They made it terrible. But your explanation of the tab groups is helpful. I'll probably use that.
Hi Mark, I have an apple air M1 and need a external mic to use for recording radio plays, voice overs etc have you any ideas.
Great video. Could you make another one where you talk about how you use your cursor on the Mac?
Thanks! Although that'd be a short video mate... what do you want to know exactly? Or are you pulling my plonker? It's hard to know with RUclips comments sometimes.
nice
Nice practical tips on this. Chrome isn't actually that great
Awesome - thanks!
Chrome is a power hog, too.
how do you display the bookmark folders under the url bar?
Most informative Mark, thank you. Did I notice a 1Password icon on your Safari? If so, what are your thoughts on it? I really like it but have never really sussed how to use it properly in 'tandem' with Apple's own password system across my devices.
Thanks! I talk a bit more about 1Password later on in the video :) but it is indeed superb!
@@MarkEllisReviews Thanks Mark, finally finished the video :-) you do indeed! Loving using Groups now.
Sorry Mark, another question - as a 1 Password do you turn keychain passwords off? Thanks
Hello Bro.
One question on safari regarding SIDEBAR, not finding any help in google or apple community -
I am facing issue with UNIVERSAL CONTROLLER while using with Safari browser in macbook pro .
The issue is - When i move my mouse cursor to left of the screen the safari "SIDEBAR" keeps popping up . Keeps me annoying while using UNIVERSAL CONTROLLER with my ipad pro.
Is there any way to permanently disable this safari "SIDEBAR" ? , so it wont pop up when moving my cursor .
Please do help 🙏
I think your can do 2fa with apple keychain now too.
3:57 What's the advantage of having those sites in a tab group as compared to the folder they were in. Folders are also synced 🤷🏻♂
So what’s the difference between a tab group and a bookmark folder? (Vivaldi user here.)
ublock needs to be brought to safari a good ad block is the only thing keeping me from making the jump
Perhaps reader view works with an specific html tag like “article” so if a website doesn’t have it, then safari won’t know what part of the code is the main article.
Bro I'm thinking to get Xr as my first iPhone as my current Mi note 8 is not working properly I have the money to buy 13 ProMax but I think I'll not use it to it's fullest so what's your thoughts...
Yeah all the 13s are great, battery life, speed, it's wicked awesome.
Regular 13 or the 13 mini!
Does anyone know how he got his tabs to be displayed at the tap of safari?
Edge on Mac OS is an absolute pleasure to use. Shame the mobile version is lacking or else it'd be my browser for everything.
Edge is a great browser.
@@MarkEllisReviews Safari vs Edge would make an interesting video. Great channel by the way - great pace and delivery - a pleasure to watch.
@@stewartluscott-evans2216 Thanks for the kind words and content suggestion, Stewart!
I like the tab groups feature and safari but I use my MBA in a Office 365 Windows world . Chrome works better in that world.
not sure what is going on... but so far I can't do the tab groups or the split screens - I have Safari 14.1.2 that may be the issue
I assume you use the Google search engine ?
Yep!
@@MarkEllisReviews
I’ve tried them all and it’s still the most comprehensive. I can recognise most of the “promoted” results.
It annoys me that the last tab cannot be closed unless you open a new tab
Agreed - that gets me, too.
Safari ! as a fellow Mac user, Love its clean minimalist simplicity. Apple just seems to come across in a way as if there trying their best to keep their customers privacy private? If that makes any sense at all? They come across as trying to shelter their users from hard sell marketing target practice....?
just so you know, I definitely am completely unable to "pin a tab". When I right click on a website where you demonstrate I get a grey box that have 3 options: Copy, Paste & search, or Settings. When I further click Settings, nothing even remotely saying how to "pin". So maybe it only works with the iMac Monterey and not Catalina (or older).
PS: I've now watched the entire video and for certain, this must only be applied if a person uses Monterey. Most of the features are not available with Catalina or older. Maybe change the title or description so people know that we must have a particular version of Safari.
Face ID on a Mac?
Nope.
I actually prefer to quit safari (any. browser) and start completely fresh every time. I'm not sure why...
I use safari everyday and I enjoy the experience more than my other browser Firefox, but I do miss some privacy extensions firefox allow me to install.
Btw you pronounce beta wrong
By the way you pronounce beta wrong
Safari does not have normal extensions, it is much slower, much more problems on sites, no pictures at bookmarks....safari is terrible.
You pronounce beta wrong btw
Completely agree
I don’t know if anyone’s said this but you pronounce beta wrong
This video made me go back to Chrome. Stupid Safari.
Just get to it a little faster. Don't need so much narrative.
Appreciate the feedback 👍
I don’t know if you know but you pronounce beta wrong
You pronounce beta wrong many thanks
Hello mark. Can you tell me how can I use safari for two different acount on google ? I am dospatching two different transport company and using different chrome , but I want to work on mac❤
I initially understood the tab group feature the same as you did 😜. Still think it makes more sense that way.
Does anybody know if the Safari handoff also works from MacBook to IPone/Ipad? As far as I can see it's only to the MacBook, nor from the MacBook, but in some situations that could be handy as well (I mean via that small icon in the dock).
Also, thanks for making the video, and keep them coming!
