@@darwinLee81283 Well, speaking as one of those "older adults," I don't think that's exactly the issue. When I began driving in the 1960's it was on a '54 Kaiser with a stick. Even then ATs had already surpassed MT cars in terms of popularity. Most drivers valued the convenience of a transmission that shifted for itself. In those days and for years after consumers were willing to pay significantly more for an AT even when an MT was available. But there was a price to be paid for an AT vehicle. And not just in terms of a significantly higher purchase price. For many years driving car with an AT meant sacrificing substantial performance compared to the same vehicle with an MT. To even the playing field automakers built larger and more powerful engines to drive a vehicle with an AT with two or at most three gears and sluggish shifting behavior. But in the last few decades the engineering and technology of ATs has improved tremendously and emission regulations and fuel cost have meant automakers couldn't simply add cubic inches to an engine to improve performance. What automakers have done, of course, is to design smaller, more fuel efficient engines, often with turbochargers to boost performance. At the same time, ATs have evolved tremendously, at first offering four or five gears, then six, then eight, then ten. All with stronger materials, and more sophisticated behavior controlled with software. Today, an automatic transmission vehicle will almost always outperform an MT. And dual clutch transmissions (In effect, automated manual gearboxes) are clearly superior to MTs in terms of performance. No driver, no matter how skilled and experienced, can shift faster than a computer. I stuck with MTs for many years. Until 2013 I always had at least one MT vehicle in my garage. At that point I bought a VW GTI with their excellent DSG (dual clutch) transmission. I did so in part because my wife sometimes borrowed the car to commute in terrible Seattle traffic. But I also found that I had as much "involvement" and "control" over the transmissions behavior in "manual" mode as I had enjoyed in years of driving manual transmission vehicles. I just ordered a G80 M3… the Cadillac is nice but won’t hold its value over the long term like the M3 will, plus the build quality is not comparable. I also think the M3 looks better, yes even the front. Yes, the Cadillac might be “quicker” but at near 500 HP that’s plenty, I don’t need more power than that. I’ve always been a Mercedes fan but they don’t offer a manual transmission.
It's too bad that the 1990s sullied Cadillac's reputation so bad. But if Jaguar - which was worse than Cadillac at the low point - can be resurrected then I hope the Cadillac haters can be won over too. This is a truly awesome car.
Thinking of Cadillac as only a road luxury brand is for casuals. You as a automotive journalist should know very well that cadillac has decades of competitive racing heritage. Stock car and Leman being two notable series. This car competes against rs audi's and m bmw's not s and m design models loll. Come on man.
Did you happen to get a VIN? It looks suspiciously like the one I finally took delivery of recently, which has 35 miles on it, off the delivery truck. I would hope GM wouldn’t send vehicles reserved by customers for months to reviewers as demos, but why else would a brand new car off the trailer have 35 miles on it.
Yes, I have a single digit production model, but the dealer nor anyone else seems to know why it had 35 miles on it upon delivery. More importantly, I’m wondering how it was driven during those miles.
Its good to see Cadillac is still in the game especially with a manual. The ATS-V, I mean CT4 Blackwing really isn't on my radar. But I am interested in the IS500
i'm sorry this is not a 'track ready car', anyone that has run their car at the track knows that.... PS4S is a street tire with no significant grip, the brake pads/lines/fluid all have to be upgraded, and the car is probably sprung too softly for any serious lap times. Any performance sedan - whether its an M3/M4/M2, C63, etc will have to go to a transformation for any kind of serious weekend track work. I think Cadillac is giving a false impression, I'm sure the car drives great but always using 'track ready' everywhere is misleading.
I hear what you are saying but...you are basing what you are saying on how cars were (and you are correct). These cars did 24hr track tests with all stock parts and were worthy in the laps I did. It's true, they can run on stock parts for repeated laps and yes the tire is new and built for that too. Can you upgrade and make them better? Yes, you can always make them better but they do exactly what they said they can do, it's impressive
Sure, you can upgrade any car over time but the base car comes with bespoke Michelin PS4S tires - not used on any other car. From what I read they're made of about 61% R compound. Most importantly the proof is in the pudding. This car already ran VIR from published reports 4.5 seconds PER LAP faster than the M5 Comp - that's a BIG margin. In fact it beat the 991 911 GT3 at VIR as well. I agree 2-ton sedans aren't typical or traditional track cars but with the right approach they're viable (I've run a '17 CTS-V at Pacific Raceway for the past few years and plan to do the same with the CT5-V BW I picked up last week - after I find a source for replacement tires and get some prep work done.)
@@rdollie1 usually the press cars are dialed up for more endurance (better fluid, pads, tuning). Not saying this isn't a capable car but will definitely need some prep before every HPDE session.
@@stevecristea3082 if you want best times, sure. I ran my V3 with and without track specs and did just fine (just have to use a bit more throttle on the corners to steer in street settings.) The stock brakes, pads, and even fluids do ok for HPDE. Haven't had the 5 Blackwing out on the track yet but will sooner than later (after I find replacement OEM rear tires, have the fronts already.)
Everytime a new Cadillac comes out, it's the same "commercials", every American automotive journalists will go on and on on how good the car is compared to a BMW. But 3 or 4 years later, the Cadi is nowhere to be seen, they get destroyed in sells by BMW, I don't think I ever seen an ATS-4 outside of RUclips, I have seen 2 or 3 CTS-V though. They should focus their marketing more on themselves instead of always trying to compare themselves to BMW like Lexus does.

@@richardalfaro4933 au contraire! I always look for a GM product at Hertz because even on the cheapest stripped version of anything they make they include both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay - and have for years (Android Auto is just rolling out on my most recent BMW now and isn't even an option on some luxury makes)
My dad bought a 2010 CT-4 with the 3.6 and he had nothing but problems. He’d never get rid of that car. Put thousands of dollars into it. He bought a new Lincoln Continental and still keep that Cadillac. He passed away last year and my brother took the Cadillac. He’s about to trade it in finally after putting thousands of dollars into it and it just broke down again. That Cadillac CT-4 was absolute junk. Zero reliability.
Your father probably bought a ATS not a CT-4, and yes I can confirm that the ATS had issues which left much to be desired from a Cadillac. we need to have a STIG off...and throw Randy Pobst and Tiff Needell in there for good measure!
Great car for a all around only option. Better then a Model 3 Performance and BMW M3 unless you get the 2x more expensive CS model.
A decent engine and gearbox for 2 features!
Dumb question but why are all the reviewers for this car having this same color and only manual transmission? No other colors or trans?
they shouldn’t have gotten rid of the ct6.
Good driver
IMHO I would still get the bmw m3 comp all day long
I just ordered a G80 M3… the Cadillac is nice but won’t hold its value over the long term like the M3 will, plus the build quality is not comparable.
I want one, bad!!!
What’s the redline?
Any interior pics ?
Believe it's 6,800ish.
I would hope GM wouldn’t send vehicles reserved by customers for months to reviewers as demos, but why else would a brand new car off the trailer have 35 miles on it.
they legally cannot sell you a press demo car. Also, didnt he show the number of the car at the bottom of the steering wheel?
Yes, I have a single digit production model, but the dealer nor anyone else seems to know why it had 35 miles on it upon delivery. More importantly, I’m wondering how it was driven during those miles.
@@theshowersinger6681 35 miles? Really bruh
Nice
I don't really like this guy's driving style. But apparently he must be fast since he's a pro racing driver.
They need a better version of this car, Blackwing GT : BW V8, ZF 8 Speed DCT, CCB.
Ex Stig? Like white helmet to racing shoes
That’s the one.
Shit I wish Chevy made a basic car like this
Was hoping on a North Course run not just a South Course buts is a fun short one…..
This might be the very last Manuel car we get period! With all cars in Generally speaking for all cars
Antone can drive it, not just people named Manuel. ;)
Glad I saw this so I knew to not cancel my m3 comp xdrive order
Now that Cadillac has a couple of exciting sedans, knowing G.M, they'll probably discontinue them.
They'e had exciting sedans for like 15 years now.
@@taylorc2542 not really. The xts failed. CT6 failed. Yeah, they had the v series, but this is a brand new generation with a manual.
@@weirdshibainu These are just reskinned versions of the ATS-V and CTS-V.
@@taylorc2542 No. The original cts v's were heavier-v8s and didn't offer manuals as a side by side option.
@@weirdshibainu The original CTS-V could be had with a manual. In fact, it couldn't be had with a automatic.
Cadillac Commodore
Except slower
Its good to see Cadillac is still in the game especially with a manual. The ATS-V, I mean CT4 Blackwing really isn't on my radar. But I am interested in the IS500
For Sunday cruising, great choice.
@@kensmechanicalaffair you're probably thinking of the LC500. It is a Sunday cruiser. The IS500 is the V8 sleeper family sedan. It's my daily
@@timw2083 You're right.
What is that nasty rattling!?
Why couldnt the Acura TLX type S be more like this Caddy than an underpowered overweight car.
The Acura was also fun to drive and track capable but yea, this is next level. The Acura price point with SH-AWD is tempting though(?)
She came?
i'm sorry this is not a 'track ready car', anyone that has run their car at the track knows that....
You don't see anyone comparing themselves to Lincoln and there's a reason for that
Nice car and I love the manual transmission, but that color is awful.
A day late and a dollar short.
That car looks like a lot of work to drive. Maybe it was the video, but it looked like you were fighting it.
Cadillac - A grandpa mobile! 🤣
Sounds like a 4 banger
Lost me at "3.6L twin turbo V6" buddy! V8 or NOTHING! 🇺🇸
Only one is the IS500. I'm sure it's not gonna be as fast. Well see

A Direct Injection Twin Turbo Aluminum V6.
Sounds like alot can happen that will go wrong. From turbos to header issues. For DI VALVE buildup issues. I love this car. The reliability is my only concern
Not many V8 sedans left.... Charger, IS500, SS or current C63.
V6TT isn't a bad choice though plus this has a manual.
@@timw2083 don't forget CT5-V Blackwing!!
That color is not it
It's kind of immature.
Is this car still up to 26% China sourced like the basic versions of this car? And have the basic, SIMPLE problems with this 3.6l V6 been addressed? Who on Earth would buy any GM car with this engine knowing they're facing timing chains and guide issues that can cost up to $5,000 once the warranty expires? And oiling problems, ugh. $5,000....for weak timing chains. It's worse than the head bolt issues for Northstars. There is a reason you see very few out of warranty 3.6l v6 equipped GM products on the road. Take a look around, how many of those once prolific Camaros are on the road after only 10 years?
Is that in any way more expensive than a Turbocharger that fails out of warranty?
Um, I see plenty of 5th gen Camaro V6s and Traverses, Enclaves and Impalas on the road.
@@EdMiF as long as the oil is religiously changed and of the proper or better quality than recommended. I do not see many older anything with the 3.6. I saw an older Enclave earlier today and noticed it due to not having seen one in a while. And, up here, near Chicago, I do not see many 5 gen Camaros with the V6, anymore.
My mom bought a 2011 Camaro in October 2010. I was impressed with its power, but once word got out concerning reliability she traded it after less than 20,000 miles.

I rented some Cadillacs and from the touch screen to the overall build it was just really cheap ... Idk why anyone would buy one for the price
Rented which Cadillacs? and when? I'm sure it wasn't a top spec Blackwing or any other highly spec'd car.
@@blang38 it doesn't matter I rented a 2020 and a 2021 .. either way their interior is incredibly cheap and it's not a very reliable car .. hell they don't even make parts for the car to repair after the warranty .. maybe If Cadillac wasn't owned by GM it would still be a quality car but sadly it's not .. their expensive for no reason and break down to often.. and you have to understand this channel is basically a marketing channel now which they get access to cars like hundai kia Nissan land Rover Mercedes dodge, jeep so often even though their are not good quality cars .. which is why they never highlight the recalls, cost to own and depreciation issues these brands have
You're not getting the best of anything in most any GM rental car...
@@rdollie1 haha.. you mean your not getting the best of anything in any GM product
@@richardalfaro4933 au contraire! GM has the consistently best rated autonomy program in SuperCruise, best adaptive suspension with magnetorhelogic setup (just ask Ferrari), most reliable high output engine for a street performance car, etc.. of course you won't experience any of these in a rental!
That was 11 years ago. It's not even the same car now.
Your father probably bought a ATS not a CT-4, and yes I can confirm that the ATS had issues which left much to be desired from a Cadillac. The 2022 CT-4 however, has significant improvements in build quality technology and performance over the old ATS. I wouldn't write it off so easily. My regrets for the passing of your father, may he rest in peace.
@@AnthonyEvelyn evidently those improvements don't extend to the engines because both of them use turbochargers, are just as bad to replace out-of-warranty as timing chains
