I went to their concert on my 10th birthday. At freedom hall, Johnson city, tn. After free bird he walked off the stage and handed me his hat he’d worn through the whole concert. Curtis Lowe is one of my most favorites ❤️.
Dedicated this song to my late uncle, the man who taught me to play guitar and sings the blues. When the time comes we going to play together this song in heaven...
Love Mr.Billy Powell on the piano. I know you made it to (heaven) see as soon as I get there ty lynard ,/ Skynard for your year's of great music & entertainment.
"On the day Ol Curtis died, no body came to pray. The Ol Preacher said some words, and they chucked him in the clay. He lived a life time, singing the black man's blues. And on the day he lost his life, that's all he had to lose." RVZ
This band has survived such tragedy. Donnie, Ronnie is looking down on you with love and appreciation for keeping his bloodline alive; and voice. You have kept more than a band going. You, like Melody said, lots of people have a Dad that make them happy, "I have a Dad that made a lot of people happy." You have contributed to his legacy. Long live the history of LS.
I think the current Skynyrd sounds great on most of the old songs but for some reason this one isn't doing it for me... I think the original is 100 times better. this version sounds too country for my tastes. The guitar solo isn't nearly as good either.
Now the most sad thing is that Lynyrd Skynyrd (untill 77) performed this song on stage only once, so there is a high possibility we never find a live footage of the original band.
Johnny Van Zant has such a country sound. Ronnie had a more of a rocker's sound, and I like it a lot better, but Johnny is a great damn singer for sure. I'd kill to see them when Pronounced and Second Helping were big back in the 70's!
Yea Jason that Performance at Freedom Hall kicked ass I could walk about 2 blocks and be at freedom hall.I lived in J.C. TN.for 15yrs came back home to balto MD jan 2008 my next move is to vegas the first part of july.just gotta sell this house before I leave hope to catch some good concerts in Nevada !!

@GreenManalichi Im too young to have seen the origanals but i got tickets to see them in London this summer. @Jaketheoutlaw I loved Medlock when he played in Blackfoot. I went to see em back in my hayday, and Im not saying he sucks in LS... just aint the same "boys" that I grew up with. And YES...it is a damn shame the way they all have passed on
@GreenManalichi Saying that Rickey Medlocke is second closest he did some stuff in the early 70s though it was only recently he rejoined 1996 i think. Sad about them all but you can't kill legends.
@CockasaurusErectus well, ringo couldnt legally reform the beatles since hes not even an original member. mcartney has a chance but he would most likely have to get ringo(or his son) to be drummer otherwise he couldnt legally do it either. rossington on the other hand had more than enouth legal power to reform the band. no living member of the bands of near original line-ups is opposed it.
RIP Gary. Whole band is finally reunited. Keep heaven rockin’

Yes Johnny is keeping Ronnie's music and dream alive. To me that's fantastic of him
One of the most soulful songs ever written played with as little soul as I could imagine.
Quiet hater
Love Mr.Billy Powell on the piano. I know you made it to (heaven) see as soon as I get there ty lynard ,/ Skynard for your year's of great music & entertainment.
Good to see that johhny cares about his fans my favorite part was where he shook that fellows hand in the begininng
SouthernDemocrat I've always loved their humility and their humble nature.
To the fans, they obviously didn't get along great internally all of the time haha.

Yep, that's it!
What a brilliant song, especially for us guitar players. Lyrics, melody, it’s got everything.
IMO the best tune LS ever played.....of, course, as a blues junkie I'm partial to that dirty slide guitar !
It’s even better for us drunks
People said you were useless, then people are the fools. Cause Curtis you're the finest picker to ever play the blues! #Classic
Neat, you repeated the words. I'm in awe of your in depth writing skills.

Everyone who loves this band will agree. What we also should agree on is they are the epitome of a rolling stone.
Skynyrd will never die.
I'm Mexican my dad wants me to only like Spanish music but I can't help it this song is beautiful with a great story behind it
Hey friend❤
On the day ol Ronnie died, millions came to pray. Leaving out the last verse felt like silent homage.

Not many people know this song was written about Shorty Medlocke Ricky’s Grandfather. Ricky grew up with Ronnie, Allen, and Bob Burns.
Well, I used to wake the mornin'
Before the rooster crowed
Searchin' for soda bottles
To get myself some dough
Brought 'em down to the corner
Down to the country store
Cash 'em in, and give my money
To a man named Curtis Loew
Old Curt was a black man
With white curly hair
When he had a fifth of wine
He did not have a care
He used to own an old Dobro
Used to play it 'cross his knee
I'd give old Curt my money
He'd play all day for me
Play me a song
Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew
Well, I got your drinkin' money
Tune up your Dobro
People said he was useless
Them people all were fools
'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker
To ever play the blues
He looked to be sixty
And maybe I was ten
Mama used to whoop me
But I'd go see him again
I'd clap my hands, stomp my feet
Try to stay in time
He'd play me a song or two
Then take another drink of wine
Play me a song
Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew
Well, I got your drinkin' money
Tune up your Dobro
People said he was useless
Them people all were fools
'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker
To ever play the blues
Yes, sir
On the day old Curtis died
Nobody came to pray
Ol' preacher said some words
And they chunked him in the clay
Well, he lived a lifetime
Playin' the black man's blues
And on the day he lost his life
That's all he had to lose
Play me a song
Curtis Loew, hey Curtis Loew
I wish that you was here so
Everyone would know
People said he was useless
Them people all were fools
'Cause Curtis you're the finest picker
To ever play the blues
