  • In this video, I have made a simple transformerless power supply on a breadboard using some basic electronics components. This DC power supply can be used to supply small 5V electronics gadgets like LED, 5V LCD, small DC motors etc.
    I have also explained the working principle of the transformerless power supply circuit.
    I will request you to watch the complete tutorial video of the AC to DC power supply project but you can also jump to any topic by click on the following Time Stamps:
    01:05 How to design a bridge rectifier circuit
    07:37 Testing the transformerless power supply circuit with different loads.
    08:45 Working principle of the transformerless power supply circuit.
    Components Required for the 5v dc power supply circuit:
    1. 0.47uF 400V AC Capacitor 1no
    2. 420K ohm resistor 1no
    3. Diode (1N4007) 4no
    5. 470uF Capacitor 1no
    6. Zener Diode 5V 1no
    7. Connecting wires
    8. Breadboard
    In this video, I have shown how to convert 230 volt AC to 5 volt DC using this power supply. While making the bridge rectifier circuit I have explained how to place the diodes on the breadboard.
    In the end, I have discussed the working of transformer less power supply so that you can modify the circuit according to the requirement.

    Thank you for your video. I want to set up 2 Arduinos that us 5volts and 1 nema 17 stepper motor that uses 9 volts. How can I power these off a bread board with a cord that connects to 220 wall power? I’m new to this any advice will help. Thank you.

      I will not recommend to use this power supply for Arduino or other variable DC load.
      You can use this circuit to supply LEDs.

      I've already shared the circuit diagram. I've used 400volt AC capacitor.

  • @surajsurya1928

    I dont blame him for this idea but this is a dangerous circuit and can only be used in some purposes like cheap led bulb,you will get electric shock because its not isolated from ac due to lack of transformer,this circuit do not provide large current output/unless you add lots of capacotor at input which will cost you twice than a good smps power supply.this is only good for cheap led dim light.do not use this circuit with any circuit consisting of transsistors,ic or micro controllers,lcd/led display all these can get damaged if its used.this circuitis is not reliable beacause either polar or non polar or both capacitors will blast after few days.
    Take this as a free advice from an expert.thanks.

    If we use higher rating than 0.47 micro farad ac capacitor then what happen.

    • @TechStudyCell
      @TechStudyCell  5 лет назад

      The current rating of the circuit will be increased. you can add more load at the output.

    • @franklydude
      @franklydude 5 лет назад +1

      0.47uF gives an impedance at 50Hz of about 6.7KOhms so you'll get about 35mA therefore 1uF should give you about 70mA and so on..... make sure the capacitor is at least 400V better to be 600V rated. Use a low . value series protection resistor to limit the surge current. Output is at 240V AC with respect to Ground so be very careful!!

      It can be used as a low current DC source. If the amplifier draws less the 100mA you can use this.

    • @TechStudyCell
      @TechStudyCell  6 лет назад

      Very low (in mA range). This not an efficient source. For higher DC current source you can use SMPS power supply which is efficient and transformer less.

    • @franklydude
      @franklydude 5 лет назад

      @@TechStudyCell it is "efficient" ie it has low losses. The output current depends on the series capacitor. for low output voltages you will get approx 30mA with a 0.47uF Cap. A SMPS needs an inductor, & to achieve ISOLATION from the dangerous high voltage mains, you DO need a transformer.

    • @TechStudyCell
      @TechStudyCell  6 лет назад

      Zener diode is used to get constant output voltage... otherwise the output will vary with load.

  • @suhailtk7408

    The output will come electric shock

  • @franklydude
    @franklydude 5 лет назад

    It would be good practise to include a series resistor eg 50 or 100ohms to limit the instantaneous surge current when the circuit is first switched on. Also you should really highly STRESS to the less well educated people that the output of this circuit is at very high AC voltage with respect to earth, and so is a very great lethal danger risk if not used in a completely isolated situation. Otherwise you get stupid people asking if it can be used to charge a cellphone etc.. It is not novel. It is a common method useful in some specific applications.
    You should also stress the series voltage dropper capacitor must be rated 400-600VAC

      but people have their own brains right? How would they survive in the jungle for example? Or 10 000 years ago when it was no internet 😅 and very dangerous environement??? Would it be someone who tells them what to do ?? People evolueted somehow and if someone wants to charge his phone with 230 V AC it is his choice and also it is actually good for Darvin's law and evolution of humanity 🤣
