    I am currently in the process of servicing my oil cooler due to an oil leak near the passenger engine mount. I noticed this oil cooler kit in another video and back tracked it here. As awesome as it seems... I can't justify the price. Thank you for the video(s) though, very informative. Currently following your flapper mod and awaiting my poly to arrive.

      Thanks for watching! There is an unofficial door #3: I've read that another B7 owner that frequents the Facebook/Audizine circle batch creates adapter plates to replace the JHM plate. It's up to you to source the rest of the hoses, fittings, thermostat and cooler which drives the overall cost down. Also re: flapper mod - I didn't go to the length of RTV coating the top side of the flap to create an air tight seal against the runner opening but all the major shops (like Jackal/Tweetler) that sell modified intake manifolds do it. I'd add that step.

      @@FigureItAudi Thank you for all the feedback. I will consider piecing one together; however, from personal experience there is a ridiculous amount of price gouging here in the States. For example, I ordered a set (L&R) of RS4 valves covers for an engine I am building cheaper (including shipping) than the price of 1 side here in the US (including used ones)... Folks have to do better here, especially if I can get new OEM parts shipped from Germany cheaper than here.

    Hello Steve/ Great videos! Thank you for all your effort and detailed content.
    Quick question: how did the routing for the oil cooler lines and thermostat placement end up working out? I am considering doing this modification to my B7 as well and was pondering reusing the old aux-cooler 'frame' to mount the new oil cooler in the factory location. Cheers!

    • @FigureItAudi
      @FigureItAudi  Год назад +2

      Hey Thorin - If you look at the "first start" video in the series, I show all the routing and mounting in quite a bit detail. If you make your own external cooler kit, mounting it in the ducting would be a smart use of the space but I can say that using the JHM kit won't really put the cooler in the correct position just because of the length of hoses.

    Hey Steve, thanks for making these videos they are very informative and a great insight into what I may have gotten myself into with the purchase of my B7 S4. 😅 I'm curious to know how you went with the thread sealant on the A/N fitting elbows on the block off plate? No leaks I assume? I've used the loctite version of this type of sealant and given some time to cure it works well and allows some movement without leaking.

    • @FigureItAudi
      @FigureItAudi  Год назад +2

      Hi Frank, thanks for the comment. Truth be told, as the project got closer to the first startup and me needing to have the oil cooler mounted, I just wasn't comfortable with how I installed those elbows and I went back in to tighten them down (but still achieve an angle that I could work with when connecting the lines). I think there's room for improvement with how JHM machines the threads because they could measure where to begin the tap to allow the elbows to seat fully and be at the right angle. Regardless, by the time I adjusted the elbows, reapplied the sealant I previously used and then tightened down all the flared fittings nice and snug all the way from the elbows up to the cooler, I haven't had any leaks at all in the kit and I still stand by this mod. Good luck with your car; they're really not that bad (didn't say cheap though).

      @frankalarcon635 Год назад

      @@FigureItAudi I totally understand, if you had that doubt about the fitting potentially leaking then you had to make sure before going further. My S4 only has 77k kms, so hopefully doesn't need anything major engine wise.. but you just never know the history.

    Hey Steve, How's wrenching and spring? Hope you are well. I am installing my Aux/Rad kit this weekend and curious about the torque you used on the oil bolts for the oil cooler plate at the block? Those look like 10nm/7.8'lb bolts to me... I could not find it on the JHM site.

    • @FigureItAudi
      @FigureItAudi  Год назад

      You'll see in the next video how "spring" is the most apt description for how the last week has been. Yeah, JHMs site and general documentation isn't that concise and the best information is actually hidden in their supercharger install guide. See page 16 for your answer: jhmotorsports.com/instructions/B6-B7_S4_Supercharger_install_instructions.pdf.

      Cool, thanks for watching. That sucks the fan isn't working - if you're asking me for advice, I'd recommend scanning the ECM for codes; you need more information to diagnose with since it could be electrical, mechanical, or a sensor elsewhere. Good luck.

    I think my S4 needs the oil cooler O rings swapped out. Should I splurge for this kit? Is it worth the extra money? If the mechanic is gonna have all that sort anyway, why not do that now, right? Did jhm get you the kit quickly?

    • @FigureItAudi
      @FigureItAudi  2 года назад

      Not to mislead you, I haven't mounted the external cooler and run the car yet so I can't claim it is or isn't worth the cost. I'll say that unless you plan to pull the engine in the near future to do timing or something, if you're about to go through the effort of pulling the front end apart and digging down to the oil cooler, yeah, it's a great opportunity to do this. Re: shipping, since I'm in Canada, anything ~week from order if "fast", and that's roughly how long it took to receive. Pretty good.

    How did you get the alternator out? Can you give any tips? Regards.

    • @FigureItAudi
      @FigureItAudi  2 года назад +1

      It can be frustrating but the right approach helps. First I take out the upper and lower 13mm bolts that hold it to the engine bracket. That will give you the ability to move it around a bit. Next, I disconnect the upper coolant hose (the 90 degree one) from its connection to the water pipe. This gives you some room to work on the 5mm bolt for the little bracket that holds the coolant pipes to the back of the alternator. Once that's off, you only have to remove the 13mm nut that attaches power/ground, then undo the sensor - and you're done!

    Hi there. Quick question. Where do you get your info about all the revision parts and so on ? I have an A4 B8 (that's how I found your channel a long time ago) and the auxiliary heating unit is not working. I have the OEM number of the part (8K0265081G) but I can only find 2nd hand parts on suspicious websites. I would like to know if VAG has a new version of this unit and i am curious where you get your info from.

    • @FigureItAudi
      @FigureItAudi  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching. All I do is cross reference the larger sites that supply parts to see what they've listed as the newest part number and to look at the previous alphabetical options. I usually check ecstuning.com, fcpeuro.com and ilcats.ru. Plus, you could always just call your parts guy at the local dealer to see what they say. That said...I'm not sure you have a valid part number there; it doesn't return any results.
