- This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2024 Mazda CX-90 mid-size 3-row SUV. We were both really looking forward to driving the Mazda CX-90 for the week as we only had it for a short time in California. One thing we are really interested in is fuel economy. We have the high output 3.3L inline 6 turbo with a mild hybrid system, an 8-speed automatic transmission, 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque with premium fuel. You can put regular fuel in this model but you’ll get a little less horsepower, torque number stays the same.
The official fuel economy is 10.3L/100 km, 23 MPG city and 8.5L/100 km, 28 MPG highway.
There is also the standard engine, a 3.3L inline 6 turbo with 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque with regular fuel. Standard rear-biased AWD for all models.
The Mazda CX-90 standard engine gets 9.9L/100 km, 24 MPG city and 8.4L/100 km, 28 MPG highway. Not a huge difference between the two powertrains.
The Mazda CX-90 comes with some nice standard features like a 7” driver display, 10.25” centre display with Mazda Connect, wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto, manual heated black cloth front seats, an 8-speaker audio system and 8-passenger seating. In the US, 7-passenger seating is also available on the base trim and a power driver’s seat.
Best value trim in Canada goes to the Mazda CX-90 GT Model with the standard engine for $55,350 CAD, features include 7-passenger seating, leather trimmed upholstery, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and a Bose sound system to name a few. Key features missing on this trim include, driver seat memory, ventilated front seats, a power passenger seat and the larger 12.3” screens. In the US, it’s the Premium Plus model with the standard engine for $52,950 USD. It gets all the features the high output top trim gets, but it’s a 7-passenger vehicle and it adds the larger screens.
Here’s the pricing for the other trims available. In Canada, the Mazda CX-90 starts at $45,900, GS-L $49,300, GT-P $59,300 and Signature $63,300.
In the US, the Mazda CX-90Select $39,595, Preferred $43,445, Preferred Plus $45,900, Premium, $48,900, S-P $51,750, S Premium-P $56,450, S Premium Plus-P $59,950.

We are driving the top trim in Artisan Red with a beautiful tan Nappa leather interior for
Mazda is really hitting it out of the ball park with this. The interior is amazing, real buttons and no piano black plastics. Inline six and real wheel drive bias. What's not to love about the direction they're going.. ❤
The auto start-stop. They're putting it in all their vehicles.
You ask - What's not to love? They named several things not to love. From transmission to software tuning to clunks to pedals to " something" Additionally the info screen is no touch unless you connect your phone to it. You can explore it yourself and find more things not to love to answer your own question. Were you not listening?
@@keytothegate68 it's subjective. I like it, you may not. Good for you. 🤡 In any case, maybe English isn't your first language, so a bit of reading comprehension might do you some good. "what's not to love about the direction they're going." Does that statement refer to this vehicle alone, or where the company is going with these designs, such as the inline six etc? It's amusing how social media attracts all sorts of negative comments from people who don't even understand the comment they're replying to. And yes, I watched the entire video.
Sorry not true at all. I just purchased a '24 CX-30 premium and there's absolutely no start/stop button whatsoever.@@twystedhumour
This is one of the few reviews I watch because of honest and unbiased review
Its also uninformed. I own one of these. These guys are saying things that make no sense. Either that or they've never driven a Mazda.
I ordered black GT last month, I took a test drive and I loved it. So powerful, perfect handling and affordable 7 seater.
Exact same trim and colour for me (greige leather interior)
I can't wait for the cx70. Hopefully they've got some of the power train stuff resolved. Thanks for the great reviews!!
They haven’t unfortunately 😅😂 look up the cx60….
@KuyaArbee They have though. People have said the more recent CX-60s have a smoother transmission than the earlier ones.
I hope the 70 will look more like the CX-5. I like the sharp edged look better.
@@Seriously140 I may end up going for the CX-90 instead of the CX-70 because the CX-70 was delayed
@@jstrig Hope you find a great vehicle you will love.
What a beautiful vehicle, inside and out. I have no need for 3 rows, so I'm waiting for the CX70
So you buying cx70 ?
Having driven both mdx and cx90, I can easily say that if you are after having fun while getting some practicality, go for the Mazda. There is a reason BMW uses inline 6 with RWD and called the ultimate driving machine.
Especially with 10 l city 8 l highway I much prefer this to a hybrid.
Cx90 can't come close to mdx. I've driven both.
@@mikekim1854 Apple to apple, if you prefer MDX go for it, Mazda CX90 in top trim offers, a lot more. Almost fast as the MDX S type and a lot cheaper. I6 plus rear drive oriented frame, BMW copied for reason, when comes to huge vehicles called SUV, this type of combination giving best result when comes to driving. I'm not saying about moving from point A to point B but about fun drive. Personal opinion which one is nicer from outside, but plastic fantastic in MDX plus too busy dashboard just eliminates MDX. Again, this is like Apple and Android, buy whatever you like.
I agree with Mike, mdx is far superior to this. It’s butter smooth engine and transmission and drives like a car. Steering, music system, removable Center seat etc is all in favour of mdx. Plus you can buy used one cheaper. Only thing against mdx is slightly smaller than the Mazda
@@kkedarppwhat model had a butter smooth transmission? We just had a MDX for a weekend, we are considering one for my wife, but the trans kept shifting hard, would shudder when coming to a stop, etc. A great vehicle otherwise lol.
thanks for touching on the transmission issues. a few reviewers have mentioned the lag as well. it's a deal breaker personally... transmission responsiveness is crucial to the driving experience
To anybody with even basic sensibility, its a deal breaker, let alone keen automotive enthusiasts. Reason is, there is an industry precedent for bad auto/manual transmissions dating back to the BMW SMG which BMW could never cure. There is more. After the BMW SMG debacle, BMW released the dual clutch auto/manual which was also panned by enthusiasts inspite of BMW engineers spends thousands of hours to get it shift seamlessly. Result? Just announced BMW is going back to 'torque converter' auto transmission in all their cars including M cars.
Mazda, in the case of the in-line 6, albeit directionally correct from a design philosophy standpoint...straight six architecturally is a great engine...however the new engine is completely unvetted. Mazda's first foray with this format. Mazda is reinventing the wheel at the consumer's expense. Nobody knows what kind of durability performance this engine will provide because its unproven. Most brand new engines have design flaws and some are unrecoverable. The transmission issue however is 'blatant' which btw may even be rooted in a design flaw on a conceptual level because Mazda has taken a 'flyer' aka departure from conventional transmission designs, jn particular to satisfy the hybrid motor requirement. Even the best designed dual clutch transmissions without the complication of an electric motor that BMW designed and released, BMW being driveline experts and producing some if not thee very best powertrains in the world had driveability challenges, the worst dating back to BMW's SMG which caused the consumer thousands of dollars in payout and BMW millions due to inability to make it perform properly for any duration. Class action lawsuit. Most older SMG cars have now either been scrapped or converted to manual shift cars...like early M3's.
Theres no lag my boi. I own a signature. I don't know what these people are talking about. Seriously. Maybe they're talking about i-stop? If that's the case, you can just turn it off.
Look at Scotty's review of this vehicle. He says no lag either.
No, it has. I drove this car and it had a massive hiccup when the gas engine was kicking in. Definitely a transmission problem. You will surely hear again about this problem. Mazda is new to the PHEV and hybrid models and still needs to fine-tune its technologies.@@@arkeo5467
Just bought one. Noticed the choppy lag issue. Salesman showed my how to turn it off.
Really like the exterior color and glad to see that some manufacturers have realized there are more interior colors than black, black, black or black.
You guys always do such a nice job. Agree about the interior-very sharp.
That artisan red is gorgeous! Maybe when our RX350 dies we'll get one of these -- after they've ironed out the kinks. Andrea, I want to try your arm routine! You look so strong!!!
Great review Guys as usual. The Cx-90 is truly a spectacular SUV for the $$$$$ for sure. I have not driven it, I have a 22 MDX Advance (leased in 8/2021) which I truly enjoy and has been completely Trouble free with only 12K miles on it. Pertaining to your comments about Mazda addressing the "software" issues with the TCM /ECU causing hesitation and /or abrupt shifts, I'll tell a brief story. In 2010, I leased an Infiniti G37X (replaced my 2007 G35X - which to that date was the best car I ever had at 56 years old then). That year Infiniti just came out with their new 7spd Auto Tranny. Although I test drove the car very briefly (same 3.5 Liter engine as the G35X), when I drove it home form the dealership with a smile on my face .....suddenly I said WTF was that!! It was Laggy, and felt like the old OD auto trannys in my Pontiac. I called the Saleslady the next day, and she told me to bring it in the following day. The service Tech and Manager said to me: That 's the way they drive!! There's Nothing Wrong. I learned to play with the throttle a little to minimize that Lagginess. But it was far from the G35X (with a 5 spd AT). I started Blogging on an Infiniti's Owner site and found it was pretty common complaint. I brought that car back to service numerous times and had 2 Techs and a Regional Manager take drives with me where they attached a Laptop to the Car's CPU to try to measure the issues. They couldn't. Then suddenly about two years after griping, Infiniti issues a Software Update to the CPU /TCM - that bad made the ride much better, not perfect, but better. My dealer (pepe Infiniti in White Plains, NY - the largest in the NE USA), complimented me! They said, because my constant griping (and many others too, but I was the most Ardent one), Infiniti responded and issued this Update. This only served to prove how much cars are Computer driven - changing engine Timing, Tranny shifts, etc. PS.. whne that leased ended about a year later, I took a new 2013 Infiniti M37X. All the Tranny Bugs were gone.... That was the best Car I ever had, surpassing the 2007 G35X. It had near Audi handling, Steering responsiveness, comfortable ride, and a decent height for a Sports Sedan - easy to enter and exit the car. It was the Best Value compared to the Audi A6, The BMW, Acura, and MB competitive models , by far, yet I saw very few on the road in my vicinity. I should have Bought that car at lease expiration, but did not and got a SUV. That's another story.
I’m very impressed. Very impressed. At $65,000 this a great deal (Acura MDX A-spec, any German premium SUV or even a loaded Palisade/Telluride). At $45,000! for a stripper (GS) its an even better deal. It’s main, perhaps only competition, might be Toyota’s ever-so-predictable (boring?) Highlander. This new capricious approach by both Mazda’s design and engineering departments might be onto something. And I like it. Thanks for the video.
Just test drove the Highlander and then the CX-90 back to back. No contest -- the Mazda was fun to drive and the cabin from the front row felt much more open and light.
We were considering this vechile but decided against when mechanical review revealed a problem for us but maybe not you. We drive vechile for 10 years as main driver and then keep it for next 10 as secondary vechile. Almost any normal repair or parts replacement will probably need the in line 6 pulled to do them thus labor costs will be extremely high.
Let's hear it for Mazda's reds! First Soul Red, and now this gorgeous Artisan Red that just pops on a bright day. Classy colour.
WOW the B roll footage is stunning! this CX90 is making me consider MAZDA in the FUTURE! what a BEAUTY! the top TRIM is definitely worth it
We just took delivery of the GT-P in deep crystal blue with the white nappa leather interior. So far it’s been fantastic but I do agree with the transmission seems to be something that needs to be worked on.
Another great review folks. I really love your presentation style and you work together seamlessly.
Nothing kills the "horse and rider" feel in a vehicle faster than a delay in the go pedal
There isn't one. I own a signature.
Just tried one and loved it. The ride is just perfect (for such a large vehicle) no body roll and the suspension felt exactly right to me, even on rough roads, so does the steering, frankly I don't understand Zack's attitude about it. However I did feel the "lag" but didn't mind it much, I was told at the dealership that Mazda would eventually provide a software fix to make it better. I drove the GT trim and it felt so much more luxurious than the Honda Pilot Touring I went to see just after, Honda is not even close. This is way cheaper the an MDX yet the interior is just a luxurious (and imo more tasteful) and has better performance. I don't need 3 rows to I will look at the cx70 and I can't wait. Good job Mazda.
I've got this strong impression in a nutshell:
Basically, the CX90 is essentially a MDX equivalent @ Pilot's price range.
or
a Lexus RX/TX equivalent @ Highlander/Grand Highlander price range.
Unlike Honda group and Toyota group, Mazda sales volume is too small to maintain a separate premium brand like Acura and Lexus. So when Mazda does a premium product, it has no choice but to invest the budget on the product itself instead of investing in luxury branding/dealership experiences.
Nah Zach right
I have been waiting for the cx70 for more than a year now.
I bought one of these a month ago. AMAZING car. Mazda has outdone themselves on this one.
I ordered mine cx90 signature jet black with pure white interior 👌
Congratulations 🎉
Funny, this is probably the only time US gets the pronunciation correct! In Japan, it's written as Ma-Tsu-Da in Katakana Japanese (also the last name of the founder). Their Ma pronunciation is like "ma" as in mother, and they won't be able to pronounce it the way you Canadians do. Therefore, American way is correct, just sayin' :)
they were so smug, too
Yup, the Canadian way is not correct at all.
Toe-may-toe or toe-ma-toe, who gives a 💩? Everyone knows what it is.
The way they say it sounds like a bad New Yawk accent
No, Mazda comes from "Ahoora Mazda", Persian God of Zoroastrian religion. The canadian pronounciation is similar to the original Persian pronounciation, which makes it correct.
Great review. I feel that the transmission issues may be a result of it being a new model and design. Give Mazda time to adjust the settings on the transmission. As for the steering, I'm one of those who likes a heavier feeling steering. One of the first cars I drove, 44 years ago, was my parent's 1977 Peugeot 504 Diesel. I loved how the car went where it was pointed. Mazda is the same. I love the feeling of the steering in the four Mazdas that I've driven (2016 Mazda3 hatchback, 2018 CX-5 AWD, 2020 CX-5 FWD, and 2023 CX-50).
As for pronunciation, as far back as I can recall, here in the USA it has always been pronounced "Mahzda." But I'm also one of those in the USA who pronounces the Kia Sportage like a Canadian. Maybe that's because I went to sleep away camp in Algonquin Park (Sportage rhymes with portage).
Agree Stuart. As an automotive engineer since Mazda just invented their version of a dual clutch transmission with no torque converter, you should buy one of these and see if Mazda can develop software patches to make shifting more seamless. If they can't, which is most likely because there is only so much software can do to refine transmission shift quality, you will be a sucker for being an early adopter with a known design flaw all automotive reviewers have reported.
Shame on Mazda, who are not transmission experts, to create their own transmission and expect the public to embrace it when it has substandard shift quality. Mazda, wanting to 'be best in class' and failing miserably at the customer's expense.
Btw, for the uninitiated, that is called the manufacturer performing beta testing on their consumer base. Generally doesn't go very well....like Microsoft 8 or Vista.
A beautifully styled vehicle...Mazda has an excellent design office.
Could that clunk on the slowdown be the lockup dropping out, before you come to a stop? I have had vehicles in the past that have done that. Probably could be fixed with a software adjustment.
We test drove this a few days ago. Car looked beautiful, is affordable, and drove beautifully, customer service was amazing, with no upselling, and they didn't even ask for our info when sending us off to test drive! BUT the lack of storage options was just so sad. I could see my family making the worst mess simply due to the lack of cubbies. There will be toys strewn everywhere, food packaging on the floor, barely any room for a third water bottle. I just couldn't do it. I couldn't see myself spending this much $$$ and getting frustrated with the lack of space during every drive.
Excellent review, 🎉she definitely play an important role in the review . Bravo guys!!
I just got my Premium White exterior and white interior and I am in love. I was going to get the Preferred Plus but the parking sensors, safety features, 2 driver seat memory, panoramic and extra features made me want to spend the $2,000 more. It’s gorgeous and drives great
You two are great. Out of all the RUclips car reviewers, you all seem to align the most with my thoughts on what is important with new cars. I agree 100% that I wish we'd get reviews of the volume seller for vehicles, not the top trim fully loaded that only 2% of the market is going to purchase. I will say that I actually don't mind a car that doesn't downshift quickly. I think a car that holds its gears can be smoother and deliver better mpg.
I LOVE The Brown/Butterscotch Color Seats❤😊
I’m glad you guys asked the “bench seat” question.
Fingers crossed the new Prado / Land Cruiser has a bench seat on top trips.
I'm a big Mazda fan.....
Mazda car always the best and super reliable and durable 💪👉💯😍
I wanted the bench on the Max Grand Highlander but they don't offer it. Disappointed. Most won't load up all with people but it nice to be able to carry 5 with the whole back for storage space...
I am not in the market for a CX-90, but may be for the CX-70. But Mazda has to get the issues with the 8-speed/new wet clutch setup sorted before I'd even consider it. Even then I may not consider it. We have a 2023 CX-5 Signature and transmission on it is fabulous. Maybe not the quickest shifting, but it's still pretty quick, smooth, and kind of bullet proof. If you have to go off road with it you don't have the jerkiness the wet-clutch setup has because it has a torque converter. There are only three things we are left wanting for with our CX-5. Better MPG. A bit more passenger/cargo room and more useful/plentiful storage like Toyota's have. The CX-70 will delivery that, but it's this all new 8 speed that scares me.
Most beautiful SUV on the market right now and a great engine too with inline 6 🎉
Seems like Andrea has a rich wardrobe to match the entire automobile color spectrum 😉
Please help Zack with a little dash of color!
Yes, that's the thing that people have been copy pasting parroting around.
She is eye candy
We pronounce Mazda as you do in the U.S. here in Sweden too. 😊
So the correct way according to the Japanese pronunciation of a Japanese car 😂.
@@DM72513 Good 👍
@@DM72513I believe the correct way is Matsuda in Japanese, which the Canadian pronunciation is closer too.
@@marclangman4836 OK 😅
@@marclangman4836 Actually it's the other way around... US and apparently the Swedish pronunciations are closer. Both they and the Japanese matsuda have that mah-- sound, versus măzda as in măt or căt.
Best car I have owned yet. Super fun to do drive good fuel mileage and practical.
I have the answer regarding rhe touchscreen issue. The Premium Package actually doesn't come with a touchscreen, only the Premium Plus. Mazda confirmed this with me. Apparently Mazda claims that touchscreens are less safe. It's only safe to use if you pay them more money 😂
So how do you turn touch on? I’m picking up a Premium Plus today and even the dealer told me it’s only touch in CarPlay. Where is this hidden setting?
Love the interior color…….waiting for cx70 ! 😎
The US has so many options available and added to the lower end models that Canada does not have. Another to add to the ones you mentioned @ 8:30 on is that red colour. It's available to their Turbo Premium which also includes 21" premium rims, panoramic sunroof, power lift tailgate, wireless android and apple car play and so many other features. All at a similar price point as the GT here.
Been waiting for this review both, great colour and super looking model with what looks like cavernous trunk storage with the overhang I think?
11:42 "kids are gonna climb up over top of that and its gonna look like ass in about a month" lol, hilarious tone shift right there, haha
great review thanks for bringing out the transmission problems ive read them before i would not buy before the trans recal
No bench on lower trims is a dealbreaker.
Just love the bench on my Telluride SX, it's so much more usable than having captain chairs.
Question is it smaller than the Explorer and Aviator? Just saw CX90 yesterday and looked great and thought same size as Aviator.. Nice review Food for thought.
Actually the American pronounciation is much closer to the original Japanese pronounciation of Mazda. In Japan, it's マツダ (Mah-tsu-dah).
This review was extremely helpful!
Glad to hear it!
As a current Mazda CX9 owner, frankly speaking CX90 is comprehensively improved, but only 2 Negatives points stopped my upgrade plan. 1: The second row headroom space is more narrow than CX9. 2: 8AT transmission shifting gears is frustrating than CX9 6AT, especially 1-2-3. Slower gear changes than CX9 6AT as well. Hopefully Mazda could hear about this and improve it.
unfortunately the powertrain needs a little bit fine tuning and thats maybe it´s better to wait for next year to buy one because I think that Mazda revised that issue for the 2024 year cars. Thanks for the review 😀
Wifey drress looks stunning absolutely adorable, happy for both of you.
No memory seats at 55k is tough though
The best value trim in Canada IMHO is the base trim GS, no moonroof so more headroom and no problems down the road, smaller screen, cloth interior which is more comfortable and easier to look after, manual liftgate at the back which is also avoiding issues down the road. Then you can use the savings on an extended Mazda warranty which looks like it may be needed for this drivetrain.
I agree a base or middle trim review would be great . I have owned a few Mazda's over the years and they are always a little behind with the audio tech at 46k wireless android auto should be standard equipment but still a good product overall
When you guys mentioned the slight delay on acceleration with the transmission, I've run into that same issue with my 2018 Mazda 6 GT, which only has their traditional 6 speed automatic that they've been making for years. A couple of times I had to bury the throttle to get out of the way of a car coming at me when pulling out, and it seemed to take a couple of seconds to downshift and launch forward. Those seconds seemed like an hour and I thought I was going to get nailed. Still love my 6, though. But that is something that definitely is in their transmission design, regardless of whether it is the six or 8 speed, and is concerning to me. It was very observant and astute of you to point that out. I don't think I've ever heard of another review mentioning that.
Correct. The PHEV trim has also the same problem and it has a big clunk when trying to speed up. Not a reliable car. Also, Maza will rip people off when it comes to repairs.
In the Dallas area, MDXs are being discounted $2500-3000 off MSRP.
I tested drive this and the transmission reminds me of the old days that I had to learn how to cooperate with the 6-speed auto gearbox😂
U guys have really beaten those UBC streets to death!
The CX-90 is an amazing vehicle. However, considering the length of the vehicle, I think Mazda could have packaged this to offer tons of passenger space and cargo space, while keeping the luxury and driving feel. Had they addressed that, this could have easily been the best-seller for Mazda, and in the Top 4 for best selling in the segment.
Actually maybe make it as long as a Traverse so both the V6 and those 2 issues could have been addressed.
They'd sell boatloads if they matched the Pilot and Grand Highlander on cargo and passenger space. Not sure how they manage to take a 200+ inch vehicle and end up with less maximum cargo space than a CRV.
@@almassengalebecause of the in-line 6 engine??
@motormouth could you please answer my questions about the base Turbo S trim.
1. Does it have automatic foldable mirrors?
2. Can it use regular fuel. Mazda indicates that lower grade fuel can be used but can cause an engine knock. That doesn’t seem good.
Thank you.
It seems like the screen placement would be really nice for us short people who have to sit very close to the wheel and dash.
The center control wheel is safer, I agree. This is the "WAY"
It’s not safer you still have to take your eyes off the road
I disagree. You need to look at the screen as you use the dial, like using a mouse on a computer. Seems to me it takes less time to point and direct on the screen, instead of watching while you wait fornthe the selector to move on the screen to the desired icon.
Did mazda ask you to make a second video on cx90 so that the customers don't return their cars with the issues that you guys are pointing out? They should've fix the bug before the release.
Mazda wants a "direct" and responsive transmission feel here, but I keep finding reviews that single out noise or driveline jerk with 1-2 upshifts and 2-1 downshifts under light throttle or light braking. Gorgeous car, but the transmission's lack of a torque converter (resorting to a dual clutch type engine-trans coupling) unfortunately means the driver is going to feel certain pulses, shudders, and shift shock... which might otherwise be subdued or imperceptible with a TQ fluid coupling.
Andrea and Zech, I am no longer in market for transportation but still enjoy your company! Btw Andrea you look great as usual! Love you both!
nice..am sure they will work out the kinks..smaller models will be more suited to myself..nice job
I got my signature trim because do want a bigger screen and no black plastic exterior. I got mine three weeks after I ordered on April 22rd and I have to say that I hate the auto on and off (i-stop). I wish it can stay off like bmw x5. Other than that it’s a beautiful machine.
I do think you could turn it off, could be at the left lower corner of your steering wheel, which the seat’s memory button located, just test drive one today and I might be wrong.
@@zzx6225100 I know how to turn it off, what i meant is everytime you start the car you have to turn it off each and everytime. Unlike my x5 I can turn off one and it stays off until I want to turn it back on.
Mazda makes beautiful cars.
It’s one year later, did Mazda actually tweak the software in this vehicle?
I really appreciate you guys doing so much research on this! I feel like most people won’t be towing with a cx-90 lol, they should just add a bench seat. Fingers crossed it happens on the refresh!
Hope u doing well. quick question. 2024 CX 90 VS 2024 LEXUS TX ( BOTH FULLY LOADED ) Which one is right pick?
I’d say for reliability and practicality, the Lexus. For performance and looks, the Mazda. Both are very nice but over the years, the Lexus will likely be cheaper to maintain and their dealer service is incredible. That being said, the Mazda offers a nicer interior.
Better to buy in a year or two when the new engine and transmission have been refined.
That's true but low IQ people wanna buy this one right now
My thoughts exactly!
This is nice but how about the Hyundai Palisade Caligraphy as a vehicle on equal footing with this one? It may not have the sportiness/power of this SUV but I believe it outclasses the CX90 in the luxury and spaciousness.....
I can't remember - did you say the CX-90 is over-the-air (OTA) updatable? As in, could they work on the transmission programming and then send out the update to everyone? Or is the transmission firmware something that you have to go to the dealer to get updated?
A wonderful review.
Ummm, Zach, it’s pronounced “Mahz-da“ in Japan too. You know, where the company is actually based. 😏
Not pronounced マツダ?
Who cares.
THANK YOU!
Americans pronouns the "A" in Mazda exactly the way the Japanese pronouns it. And I know what I'm talking ( a- boat)! 😅
In Romania it's also Mahz-da
some owners are saying that the jerkiness clunky sound improves as the miles are getting higher.. any thoughts?
I agree, Mazda need to bring the 3 seats for the middle seat for more Family friendly 🙏. overall Mazda did very tremendous design 👑
Between Mazda cx90 and Landcruiser 250 Prado, Which one will you choose?😀
7:00 standard engine has enough power 10:00 center console not removable on top trim. Obviously you can go to a dealer and video the lower trims.
Mazda got the hardware right on what they want to accomplish, need a year or two to smooth out the rough edges with tuning.
I understand the larger electric motor in the PHEV CX-90 helps smooth out the shifting so it will be interesting to see if that's true when you get one of those for a longer test. I have CX-90 PHEV GT with the optional $200 white Napa leather interior on order, which is the top trim PHEV, but no timeline on delivery yet.
Will be quite the learning experience for you to service the electric motor sandwiched between engine and transmission when it fails out of warranty. There goes little Johnny's college fund. The public is utterly clueless about the pitfalls of automotive tech and the concept of reliability cost.
@@lukewalker1051 True enough but that said electric motors seem to require very little service. I know the one in my fridge, that essentially runs 24x7, is still going strong after 15 years but that's not in a car. I'll have to see how it goes. At least my kids have already finished college 😁
The clunk in 1st gear happens to all Mazdas with their current 6 speed. Most noticeable at low speeds in parking lots in reverse and 1st. Not really a big deal as it's intermittent.
I think overall it’s a beautiful vehicle in both exterior and interior but I don’t like the touchscreen position at all. I am not surprise of 3rd row is a bit tight for tall people. Great video Andrea. ☕️☕️
It is touchscreen do some damn research
@mtragic6 he or she said they didn't like the position of the touchscreen....not that there wasn't one. Maybe read? I agree with them and hate the tombstone tablet screens on the dash
Andrea, would you pick this over the explorer ST? The expolorer is the same price point but is not a plug in hybrid.
American cars is a trash just go with Japanese
Explorer is garbage compared to this 😅
What's the difference between this and the CX80 that we're going to get in Europe this year?
I’m waiting for the C70 with premium interior and the inline 6 engine. That should be interesting.
they have issued a TSB to address the transmission issue. I haven't seen any reviewer re-test.. can you ? :)
Can you tell me what the NAME of this color combination is called? Outside & Inside please. I want this exact car.
My experience as a Mazda owner is Sport mode gets worse mileage by design - the obvious trade off, your performance goes way up My normal mileage is 22-24 mpg, but in Sport mode it’s more like 12-14 mpg. But it is much quicker in Sport mode. I’m in a 2016 CX-5 AWD. Best car I have ever owned. I would like to see you guys double check the mpg on the CX-90 while in normal mode. I’m sure you get free $60k cars every day right?
Why no love for the Subaru Ascent? I definitely think that it's another 3 row seater that should be considered.
RW biased awd. That's always a plus, and a must for spirited driving. It's actually a good looking cuv. It's (3rd row)a little too long for me. If I was to buy something similar? I'd go for the CX5/50 But with this engine configuration.
I love the look of this but I have to say most interested in the PHEV. We have a VW Atlas which we love for the space, but it could use some more power to move a family of 5.
Yeah, that VR6 is a real dog slow engine. VW's new turbo 4 won't fair much better either. Vehicle is too heavy and underpowered.
@@ohrandyrandy I think the new turbo 4 in the atlas will be much better than the vr6. VW has tons of room in that engine tuning wise to make it work well. From 175hp to 310 hp from the same 2.0 in their lineup.
It’s still a VW though.. nice car either way. And it might be equipped with a lot of plastic but so are BMWs. At least it’s quality plastic
Solid review… but… Those platform shoes seem a bit hazardous to drive in 😬
Torn between Mazda CX-90 and Toyota Highlander?
I cu Andrea, coordinating with exterior colors in vids! Nice
I am planning to buy a new car and I have three car options, can you please tell me which of the three is best. My options is kia sportage PHEV , Mitsubishi outlander PHEV and CX90 PHEV…
no ambient lighting for the CX-90 for any trim?
More than the car, their watches catch my eye… been trying to get a subby for over a year
Steering is still too heavy. I drove one. Why they can't let us adjust this in drive modes is beyond me, as it is electronic and just software.
Wym heavy?
How do you pronounce the Canadian car brands? I cant think of one and I’m trying really hard. I know Canada makes US and Japanese cars to name a few
It's wet clutch that works like a manual transmission. There is going to be a slight delay just like a manual. It can only happen so fast. It will never be as fast as a dual clutch or possibly a regular auto with a torque converter. This is OK for me. I can tell I never put the gas peddle to the floor and have never had to in any driving situation.
I was really interested in one of these “Mahzdas”. Especially the forthcoming CX70 but I bought an MDX and I’m happy. BTW, the touchpad screen is easy for me. I don’t love the push button transmission but I’ve gotten used to it.
Me too, and I also ended up buying an MDX!
I've had 2 years with that touch pad now and it is awful
