    Over time, in my personal quest to try and get the optimal (for me) handheld Switch experience - (which mainly was to have a proper d-pad and comfortable grip), I have obtained both versions of the Satisfye Grip shown in this video, the Hori D-pad controller that replaces the left joy-con, and the Hori Split Pad Pro.
    Let me get the "tl;dr" version out of the way for those looking for a quick summary: For me the combination of the Hori left D-pad controller and the newer version of the Satisfye grip work the best (while kind of a tight fit, the hori d-pad controller will fit with the newer version of that grip, but not really the older one).
    For my more detailed thoughts:
    I bought the first version of the Satisfye Grip when it came out, and it is a great product. However, the main issue was still the lack of a d-pad. Around this time I also got the Hori D-pad controller that replaces the left joy-con, but due to it being shaped somewhat differently than the regular joy-con (as mentioned in this video), it really didn't fit into the grip... at least not without REALLY forcing it, and it was just not a good idea to try all around.
    I preordered the new version of the Satisfye grip well ahead of it actually coming out. In the time between preordering and receiving it, the Hori Split Pad Pro came out. I ordered a set to see if maybe it would be the answer to my mission of getting a combo of a d-pad and a grip. While it is a good, well functioning product for what it is capable of (and has the other advantages outlined in Kevin's video), I just found the grip, itself to not be nearly as comfortable as the Satisfye grip. I would still prefer the Hori Split Pad over using no grip at all, but IMO it was a major difference, and not for the better. So that kind of disappointed me. And at that point I wasn't holding my breath on the new Satisfye grip working with the Hori D-pad joy-con controller.
    But then later I received the new, upgraded Satisfye grip. In looking at both the old and new grips by themselves (not attached to the Switch) and comparing them, I noticed that the difference in the shape of the area where the joy-cons sit seems to potentially give more room that might allow the Hori D-Pad controller to fit. So I tried that out, and it works rather well. It is a tighter fit than when using the actual left Nintendo joy-con, but the new design of the grip with the aforementioned shape differences as well as it now having all of those rubber nubs everywhere so that the Switch didn't touch the plastic directly made it much easier to get it in there. As the grip is not "technically" designed to work with the Hori D-pad controller and it is a tighter fit, so disclaimer, if you try this, you are "technically" doing so at your own risk, but that risk is rather minimal IMO.
    There are a few benefits to this. The comfortable grip and d-pad are, of course, the main ones. But the other advantage is that you are still using the official right Nintendo joy-con. This means that you still have Amiibo support, and a somewhat more limited form of motion controls. Obviously it can't do everything motion-control-wise that it can with both first party joy-cons, but when playing Super Mario Odyssey, for example, I was still able to do the move where I shake the Switch and Mario throws his hat in a circle around him.

    • @iColassi
      @iColassi 4 года назад

      I was also curious about both. I currently own the newest Satisfye grip, the Pro version. I was looking into maybe getting the Hori split pad pro. Satisfye has stated on their Facebook page that the most current Satisfye grip, the one with the red rubber protectors is compatible with the Hori D-pad joycon. Are you saying its still a tight fight with the newest satisfye grip? Either way it seems like you still prefer the newest Satisfye grip. I have a feeling if i order the split pad pro i am gonna still have the same gripes as you.

    • @Futuredynamo
      @Futuredynamo 4 года назад

      @@iColassi The Hori D-pad controller does fit into the Satisfye Grip Pro. But it is a somewhat tighter fit, which is because it just a little bit wider than the first party joy-con. I didn't realize that Satisfye is officially advertising it as being compatible. I just put the little disclaimer in my initial comment because I basically tried it on my own and wasn't sure if it fitting was Satisfye' actual intent.

      This is actually a hard choice LOL. Your giving up HD Rumble,also it won't fit in a case,when attached, like when using a satisfy grip/case.
      Also some of the other grips, have a kick stand, that would sacrifice being able to put your grip and switch into a case,like the satisfy offers.
      Also some cases have more than one game holders/game holder flap/some cases hold more games, vs the satisfy case, where it only allows for one flap of games vs the two you get with some other cases.
      The other final question is, do the after market/Hori pad, use more battery,when in handheld mode, compared to traditional joycons?
      I keep a 30thousand mah battery pack with me, so this PROBABLY wont matter to me, but its still something that should probably be asked.
      It seems like there isn't a perfect option/your loosing SOMETHING,depending on the option you choose.

    i’ve used both and based off my experience, id much prefer the satisfye grip! The hori split pad pro is nice and the buttons are definitely a lot nicer than that of the original joycon, but in terms of comfort they just don’t have a good grip. I have semi large hands and i just can’t really get a full grip with these things. Its a shame because I definitely liked the buttons and sticks that came with it but it just wasn’t worth it for me. Not to mention the portability and the look of the switch with these meaty joycons on the side. Im all for the satisfye grip! Even tho the buttons arent as good as the split pad, the
    Comfort and features of the joycons are there :)

I also tried a softer, more rubber type grip for the joy cons with a thicker, padded area that fits in your hand. Much nicer when using both. However, using this on one joy con (sideways) was painful due to the thicker area being in the wrong place.

    Hi all. Just letting you know that I received my SwitchGrip Pro yesterday and it's already leaving black marks on my joy-con. These marks eventually resulted in scratches on the original model.
    In case you're wondering how, the left joy-con is being marked by the upper lip of the grip that sits slightly on top of the front-left side of the left joy-con. There is no silicon buffer here.
    I've contacted Satisfye for a return and refund, but I wanted to ensure people are aware of the potential for marking/scratching to still occur along the front edges of joy-con.

    I think I want to pick up a satisfye! Thanks for the review. I love your videos sir! I have some feedback though, something about the shots toward the end that started at 5:44 was a bit unpleasant to look at. The first half of the video and all of the b-roll looked amazing but something about that angle (looking down at the camera) was not my thing. Otherwise, a phenomenal job as always.
