A bit of an update on the Adam Hecht Case. Adam's brother, Harold Jr. ran into Tony in 2019 and they talked for awhile. After having talked with Tony for the first time since the mid-late 1990's, Harold Jr now believes that Tony honestly had nothing to do with Adam's disappearance. Sadly, Adam's fate still remains unknown and he has been declared legally dead. Harold Jr and Tony, while not necessarily friends, have become reacquainted and they do talk on occasion.
That's interesting. I just wonder what makes them rule Tony out. Dude was obviously a couple bricks short of a dozen. I wondered if he was still alive. Thing is though, even if Tony did not kill Adam or was not directly involved in his disappearance, he did lure him into a world that may very well have led to his death. Of course we don't know for sure he is dead, but I have to believe he is. Think he would have contacted his family or surfaced in some way by now if he wasn't, if for no other reason to tell them to stop looking. Also Tony apparently told Harold once that if he looked enough on the streets he'd find his answer to Adam's disappearance. Why would Tony say such a thing if he truly had no idea what happened to Adam? Strange case for sure.
@@alliemartin912 nah, I won't be, cause I am not uneducated or into drugs or gangs. People like you are the reason why so many people are insolvent, you just don't have individual responsibility
@@spac18 At least half of the homeless population is university educated, so education has nothing to do with it. There are more reasons for homelessness than drugs or gangs, such as mental illness or mental breakdown, family break-up, family violence or abuse, loss of employment, sudden loss of financial stability, or the onset of an illness or disability. Those things can happen to anybody, no matter how comfortable they might think their lives are.
Adam had a good heart and came from a loving family. Such a shame his good intentions were not met with the same respect, grace and gratitude he showed others. A good Samaritan lost in this evil world. God Bless him.

You're not weird; it's a very addictive show. I can remember when it was on TV in the late '80's/early '90's. I was in junior high/high school, and many of the segments stuck with me through the years.
Here from trace evidence...(great show) But watching Unsolved Mysteries with my granny when I was young, that was what started with my crime/conspiracy/murder mystery obsession!
My dad is currently 72 & got his masters in Theatre Arts back in the early 1970's (they were taught elocution, diction & how to speak with a mid Atlantic accent, lol). I could listen to him speak all day :)
Kind of seems like Adam wanted out of the rich lifestyle and wanted to be a drifter like Tony. They found his rental car, money and keys abandoned so it wasn't robbery. Bizarre case.
Little update on Adam's case: The homeless man "Tony" is still alive as of 2019 and was located as recent as 4 years ago. He is no longer considered a suspect in the case.
Shantia J It seems like Adam most likely strayed into Skid Row one too many times and got shanked, with the perpetrator taking whatever he had in his pockets. Skid Row in LA is notoriously violent. Zac Effron had an altercation there where the fellow pulled a knife and tried to stab him a few months back in 2019.
Am I the only person that loved this show as a kid? My friends thought it was creepy too,I had to mute the intro or my best friend would leave the room lol
So crazy...this episode is as old as I am. (35 y/o). This show was truly a gem for its time. I have yet to find another show as captivating. Not even the new UM holds a candle to the classic.
@GaunletofDestruction paul found florians parents and they said he disappeared. But a lady claims to have seen filipe near San Francisco and he was being charged with a crime of some sort.
@GaunletofDestruction A lady I met in Bangkok, 3/1991, deceased in 2008, was also involved when the Freedon was docked in Perth. She jumped ship as it pulled out, this was approx. Feb. 1991. I met her in Bangkok and she went on to Singapore. Ship was carrying weapons and coast guard held ship from leaving Perth for several days. She later told me that the ship was found in the pacific just west of San Francisco, Phillipe jumped ship but coast guard got him and case was to go to trial in San Francisco. Phillipe had charmed her and was at one time staying in her home for a short time in Taos, N.M. By this time I’m sure everything about the case is documented and updated. Last I heard from Helen was around 2005. I’m surprised the family of missing girl doesn’t have all this information. I reported all to Unsolved Mysteries shortly after arriving back in Ca. late March 1991.
Thanks for another great episode of unsolved mysteries I truly don't know what happened to adam hecht but I feel tony is the only person who was last seen with him tony is not giving any information about adam at all I pray this case is solved very soon
Why would someone pick up a person of the street and bring them into your home? Why not help them with a hotel or get them their own space? Help them get food stamps? There are other ways of helping the homeless other than bringing them in your own place of residence.. safety first, not naivety.
Considering she's probably long dead or well within the throes of sex slavery, I feel kind of ashamed for having chuckled at this...and still doing it.
Never board a boat, for an extended journey, with 8 men you barely know, during stormy weather, headed for the Bermuda Triangle…😮 That said: I hope Lisa’s family gets some answers.
As of 2024 Lisa has still never been found. Her mother passed away in 2005. Her obituary said “preceded in death by a daughter Lisa” so I guess Lisa is presumed dead
The actor playing Tony is Scott Lawrence. He played in the Quantum Leap episode, "Shock Theater," as 'Tibby Johnson' a patient suffering from migraines.
You took the words right out of my mouth. Good grief, I can't decide who's worse: the guy who was thinking with his little head instead of his big one and the poor man ended up dead, or the woman prison guard who abandoned her family for a felon. Idiots. I'm sympathetic towards Adam Hecht for trying to help the homeless guy but he was a fool too.
Every single one of these segments featured in this episode was about individuals meeting an insurmountable demise because they made dense minded, knuckleheaded decisions despite warnings and pleads from their families not to. Let it be a lesson.
Have you seen the key and peel skit where they are woman who are gossiping about how crazy every random acquaintance is until a maniacal looking freak talks them into getting into the back of his white van willingly?
There is more to the story about Adam. His brother disclosed that Adam was in business with a broker friend who dealt in a lot of dodgy shady business practices. This friend caused a lot of people including Adam's mother to lose a massive amount of money. Funny how unsolved mysteries never included this in the story, but instead attempted to only drawn suspicion on Tony.
@GaunletofDestruction Bingo. It all lines up. I think he voluntarily left, to avoid getting in trouble, but may had been silenced at some point along the line.
If anyone paid attention to the narration of the story of Adam and Tony. They said Tony had been living with Adam for at least two weeks before having dinner at his mothers house. Why did his mother say she remembered his 'smell' as if he still smelled like the streets/ a pungent odor. As if when he was staying with Adam he didn't clean him up. Also the re enactment of Tony seeing the mom for dinner why did he still look dirty, dingy and smelly. Adam was taking care of Tony letting him live with him he didn't clean him up? I'm convinced that Adam was doing drugs. The family just don't want to bring shame to themselves.
23:15 Why didn't Adam just open a homeless shelter? He came from an affluent upbringing. I am sure he could have cut ties with Tony and still help the homeless. Tony sounds like a sketchy figure that would show up at your apartment at 3 am begging for money. I am not saying he's bad per say but he comes off as a creep when he tried to kiss Adam's mom and didn't let Adam's brother check up on him along with the hand burning incident.
Tony killed him.. He did mentioned to his family about walking on the streets with him and if they do so he’s gonna show them where Adam is.. Adam’s body is probably in the street where those homeless ppl b sleeping at.. it’s hidden around somewhere around there..I think the police can still question some homeless ppl that’s still living around there
Adam's family is incredibly biased though. It was very clear that they hate homeless people and probably people of color as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if they over exaggerated some of the things mentioned, especially since it was just one side of the story. Plus I can't see Tony killing him when he had all of that money left in his car.
75k per annum is still a fairly decent average in national terms in the US. Salary, as it is everywhere, is really best compared versus the cost of living.
I laughed out lot at that statement that "at an average income of $75,000 a year, this is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country...". Today, that income would be barely enough to pay rent on a crappy studio apartment in Podunk.
The Adam Hecht disappearance is chilling in its own way. Where did he go? It's like he literally vanished from this earth. Really hard to believe absolutely no one have seen him for 30 years.
I. Wynn Wynn your a total fucking moron. I blamed both for what happened to them. If you weren’t too busy putting your own head up your ass you would have seen what I wrote about Adam
That shot of the Nazi officers disappearing down the far side of the hill while Stack says they were never seen again, holding the shot until the last of the three was gone from view, is one of the lasting images of the series for me.
I would hate to think what happened to Lisa , the only girl on that ship . She put herself in a really dangerous position. Poor Adam , what a sad ending for such a good person. . What an idiot Kaye was . Lost everything and broke her daughters heart. What a fool .
@GaunletofDestruction Absolutely! It sounds crude but it's the truth! Women need to be careful! Lisa made a horrible decision that ended in her demise.
Many years since this episode of Unsolved Mysteries and the police still know Tony's whereabouts and have kept eyes on him but there is nothing to show that Adam's disappearance was his doing. This story always gets to me because it was 1989 and that was the very year that I was cutting school all the time. I didn't understand it back then but I was having issues with bipolar disorder. I used to just wander all over the city, including the park in Beverly Hills they mentioned as well as Skid Row. I just wandered all over Los Angeles. I think Adam just blended into the homeless population.
What a strange story, what a strange family! Maybe Adam decided to leave it all behind. His family said how much he started to change after he met Tony. If he was killed, it seems so unlikely that he would never be found. Walking away from it all seems a bit extreme too, but weird things happen all the time. It made me think of Christopher McCandless.
I've always loved Beemans story. You'd think a convict would simply use the Prison Guard and then dump her after the escape but clearly this was true love. It's awesome to me that he not only returns to his live with the former C.O. but that they remained together until his death. A shame she needed to turn her back on her family and life but their love... That's truly a beautiful thing.
Adam should’ve left Tony ass right where he found him-at the corner!! Ladies news flash, dont get on a boat going to the middle of no where with a bunch of strange men-not gonna be a good turn out...
Agreed. Adam should have given Tony $5 and left it at that. The homeless are on the streets for their own reasons. Tony just dragged Adam down with him

I saw every people who was so hungry in Phoenix, Arizona. I fed them for good while volunteering from Mountain Park Church. And good news is I got an A+. Woohoo. Life is good in Arizona where I am! 😄
Adam was not murdered. He was going through a personal mid life crisis at the time and left on his own accord which is why his car was found undisturbed. This segment doesn't mention this.
I assume his mid.life crisis had to do with not wanting live like a mannequin in a store window on Rodeo drive. Kinda like Pinnochiio wanted to be real boy and got into some real trouble.
There have been several reported sightings of the Freedon over the years; however, none of these sightings have ever been confirmed. Family members of the Haitian crew members have stated that they have not heard from the crew since 1988. Florian Meyer-Bourch's parents have also stated that they have not heard from him since the 1988 disappearance of the Freedon. Although this suggests that the Freedon may have actually sank, but no trace of it has ever been found.
a couple months after adam hecht disappeared tony was once again spotted on the streets of california when one of adams family members asked him where was adam tony apparently stated if you spend time on the streets with me you will find your answer then without saying a word he walked away i'm certain that tony was somehow involved in his disappearance sadly I don't think this case will be solved due to the passage of time

Two of these missing persons and one murder were entirely avoidable if young people simply made better choices. Good intentions won't protect you, but common sense will.
Scott Lawrence (Tony) is still quite young in this episode - it being around the 11th acting role/job, since starting. He’s come a long way since then but maybe Unsolved Mysteries is where his career really took off... you never know 🤪
Adam needed professional help and was always doing the most bizarre dangerous things. Whether a man is homeless or not you just don't have them live with you 30 minutes later. As crazy as Adam was he could've easily just fuckin left and gone anywhere
To all of the people saying Tony killed Adam... seriously? A clearly mentally disturbed/disabled man pulled of the perfect crime? No body? No evidence? You REALLY think Tony was capable of that? There's a reason the cops dismissed him as a suspect.

@@johnnolan33177 Yeah, but we're talking Beverly hills California where the cost of living is through the roof. It's hard to believe that 75,000 is the annual income even for the late 80s.
@@kamisa7362 Those figures are probably just for those that actually work; most of the folks that live there don't work. Also, where are you getting that most people in Beverly hills don't work? I highly doubt that's true. You don't get to live there by not working.
I can remember when I was staying the night at a friend’s home as I was looking through a magazine I came upon a whole page full of missing persons and then I had this uneasy feeling come upon me…… it was very eerie
The rich family's expressions are just bizarre. I'm thinking it was drugs or gay lovers or both. The mother acts surreal. They just want to keep a secret.
People keep criticizing that family and I'm genuinely confused by it. I saw nothing "bizarre" about any of them. I saw pain, concern and confusion. All of which are perfectly normal emotions while discussing a missing family member. What was "surreal" about the mother? I'm genuinely curious here. I won't touch the absurdity that you and these others think you have the right to say how people should act in a situation you've never been in. Explanation? Also, it's been documented that Tony was evicted and questioned by the police. I don't know why you and the others have implied that that situation was made up.

Why would Tony say such a thing if he truly had no idea what happened to Adam? Strange case for sure.
Anyways, you shouldn't be hanging out with homeless people, there's a reason why they are homeless.

That is irrelevant to his story about being missing.

Is it plausible that Tony was severely mentally ill???
Adam was obviously not well, mentally. He wasn’t thinking rationally.
I said the same
Tony killed him..

The fact that the ship was called "Freedon" meant it was doomed from the start.
I laughed out lot at that statement that "at an average income of $75,000 a year, this is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country...". Today, that income would be barely enough to pay rent on a crappy studio apartment in Podunk.
Adjusted for inflation that is about 200k in today’s money. Obviously great money, but it still seems low for Beverly Hills.

Many years since this episode of Unsolved Mysteries and the police still know Tony's whereabouts and have kept eyes on him but there is nothing to show that Adam's disappearance was his doing.

The rich family's expressions are just bizarre. I'm thinking it was drugs or gay lovers or both. The mother acts surreal. They just want to keep a secret.
