  • @joshuab1707
    @joshuab1707 Год назад +18

    Such a great improvement in the lane tracing. I once rented a '21 Corolla and the difference in night and day. That thing would ping pong the lines all the time. One thing I wish they would improve is the acceleration. I wish it'd be more tesla like where, in particular if there is no car to follow, it would accelerate more gently to get to the set speed. In this aspect, the 3.0 works very similar to my TSS 1.5 in my 2019 Camry where it will just get up to speed more quickly, even if it means revving up past 4K RPMs.

    • @clarkwey7618
      @clarkwey7618 Год назад +2

      Yeah good point. I think there's value in considering the economics and fuel mileage of the car accelerating and stopping on its own compared to someone who drives with fuel efficiency in mind.

      1. Ping ponging? I have '21 C-HR and it is driving as smoothely as here, at least on a highway. Maybe you are setting something the wrong way?

      @@kamlot5005 I "rented" the Corolla. I never had any long term testing with it. But the short time I did test it, I was thoroughly unimpressed. Do know as well that not all 2021 models had the same revision of TSS. It is possible yours was more advanced than the car I was renting.

    • @kamlot5005
      @kamlot5005 Год назад +1

      @@joshuab1707 No it hasn't, TSS 2.0 as well, but I know that there are 2 modes of adaptive cruising: one with keeping the middle of the lane and second one with handling situations when you leave your lane (that looks like ping pong) and at the beginning I also sometimes got unconsciously into the second mode as you probably did.

    • @joshuab1707

      @@kamlot5005 I see what you mean, maybe I am using exaggerated language, but I do own and daily drive a 2019 Camry with the TSS 1.5 system and only LDA (Land Departure Assist). This Corolla did have the LTA (Lane Tracing Assist). And perhaps if I could revise my statement. Perhaps it was not "ping ponging" (which LDA certainly does as it's not designed to center at all) but it did have trouble centering in the lane and would subtly drift side to side within the lane.

    I have seen a bunch of corolla cross videos and the only two things I wonder about are cabin noise and power. I'm not a speed demon so I don't need sports car speed but every video mentions it's slowness. Does it pass on the freeway if necessary and feel ok going up hills? Then, how about cabin noise. I'm used to a ford ranger small pick-up and was never bothered by road noise. In your video it didn't sound bad at all. What do you think?

    • @rickm8456
      @rickm8456  Год назад +5

      Thanks for commenting. So this is a sedan, so I can’t comment on the cross specifically. I can say the 2.0 in the Sedan is plenty of power. As far as road noise for any car goes, it’s all relative. My other car is a 2010 RAV4 with 180,000 miles. Not the quietest so the Corolla seems fine to me. It’s very smooth, but sure there’s probably more road noise then a Camry or higher level car of course. If you aren’t bothered by it now with your Ford Ranger, I don’t think you’re going to really notice it.

    Eureka!
    Not that you are foolhardy like I am but I have investigated and researched and did the hard work; I now know how to bypass the time restrictions, at least for my 2021 Rav4, on Lane keeping (tracing). As you may know, if you take you hands off of the steering wheel for longer than about six seconds, the bitch in the box warns you to put your hands back onto the steering wheel and TURNS OFF lane tracing. Solution?
    Buy a small plastic bottle of Pom juice (the one that looks like a two ball snow man), drink the juice and then fill the bottle up with tap water. Place the bottle in the three o'clock position of your steering wheel, with the "waist" of the bottle resting on the cross bar. Test it out. It works for my Rav4, from the PA border all the way to I271 onI90. Look mom, no hands. I just monitored the lane tracing and traffic to stay safe. BE CAREFULL!!! My lane tracing looses concentration when white lines are weak or turn to black from tar. Only works with GOOD ROADS.
    Remember this song; I do
    "(All together now, one, two, three)
    (Keep you mind on your drivin')
    (Keep you hands on the wheel)
    (Keep your snoopy eyes on the road ahead)
    (We're having fun sitting in the back seat kissing and a-hugging with Fred) "
