Rick Murray, your videos plus Car Care Nut convinced me that a Corolla with the 2.0 liter engine is a solid purchase. Mine is also an LE and it will arrive in March. I will also do 5,000 mile intervals for oil changes. Im retiring a 2004 Accord with 215,000 miles. I expect this Corolla to out due it if properly maintained. I watch that Toyota mechanic too on youtube. Just yesterday he was talking about the discontinued Avalon and what a really great car it was in the Hybrid. I found a 2021 locally with only 26K on it used. Arriving at the car lot, when the salesman went to demo the car, the battery was dead. Of course the salesman said, "oh that's okay we can jump it". A pilot friend of mine always says,, "don't start out with a known problem". So much for considering a used $37,000.00 Avalon. I was out of there. :)

Two things i noticed that i might as well answer because i had experience with one, and asked the same question about the other.
    1. The electronic parking break is typically loud. My mom has an audi q7, and when the parking break engages, its quite jarring if you have the windows open.
    2. The auto climate control does always turn the AC on. What this does is it makes it so the car can use it if necessary to maintain the desired temperature, but it does NOT mean it is always in use. I also had to get this question answered by the dealer because i did not like the idea of the AC always being on.

Hey. The AC is suppoed to come on the automatic mode in the winter to and you don't need to turn it off, it will never blow cold air on a winter day. If the Temperature outside is below freezing it will automatically disengage the AC system even if the light is on and if it is above freezing it runs the AC in order to dry the air before it goes into the heater core, thus minimizing the chance of fogged up windows on the inside.

I also watch the Carcarenut and agree with him that Corolla's are too expensive relative to the Camry and other mid size sedans. Personally, I'd rather have a used Camry ---maybe a couple years old with low mileage than a brand new Corolla for about the same price because you get a bit more horsepower, less noisy, and better over all car. Just my 2 cents. Also, I'd be ticked at having to take a brand new car back to the dealer for steering issues.

Was wondering what you plan to do 2)Can the Wireless Car Play work via USB cable if you choose to use the cable? Perhaps that will solve the issue of random disconnects that some have mentioned? Car Care Nut believes the issue will be resolved via software updates.

Thanks! I’ve never undercoated a car either, but I’ve been thinking about it since I heard him say that. I’ll have to think about it further and call some places. This winter hasn’t been bad for us and our Corolla is always garaged at home,so there probably isn’t a rush. Re the CarPlay, yes it works with a wire. Keep in mind it’s USB-C now only. So you will need the appropriate lighting to USB-C cable - for IPhone. Ours hasn’t disconnected too much. And we have two phone programmed into it. My bigger beef is that it doesn’t turn the music volume down when you get a message or you press for Siri.

I feel like the Prius or Hybrid is a trade off, you will pay more initially and on insurance but get better MPG. With the Corolla you get a softer blow on the purchase price, less mpg, but cheaper to insure and maintain.

    @davidb1630 Год назад +2

When you run a new car in, it is always wise to change it at 1,000 miles to get rid of all the metal filings. As well as the filter.
Oil will last for 12 months, however, it's the containments that do the damage, Unburnt fuel mixed with overnight condensation creates acid which in turn attacks the seals in the engine and makes the oil less capable of adhering to all the internal areas so when you start up, it can be dry for a couple of thousands of a second which in low tolerance engines of today, is a death wish for longevity.
What you did was correct and oil should be changed every 6 months or 3,000 miles whichever comes first.
As you said, oil is cheap and this is why so many of these new cars, Toyotas, Mazdas, and Hyundais burn oil because of a lack of oil changes.

He said I would only have to buy the oil and filter which is cheap but he told me that the 10000 mile break in has been around for almost a decade and hes seen 0 problems from it. I ultimately decided Ill do a 5k change and call that the break in. I used to have a yaris and did 20k oil changes with the mobil 1 stuff until we sold it at 100k. We sold it to my brother in law and he drives them hard. Hes had it for another 40-50k. I guess im getting at the fact that toyota makes a good car! I also want to mention that so far our average economy is around 32mpg. Not sure why its so low. We drive mostly highway and drive at the speed limit. We dont take off fast etc etc. Kind of dissapointing. Did you notice lower mpgs before the break in? We use 87 octane. have about 2200 miles on it. Our 2018 would get around 40

@@rickm8456 Yeah, the oil change thing was a big ! for me when they told me 10k but they assured me that they have seen 0 issues in almost a decade of that so there must be plenty of 200k mile cars out there that followed the 10k break in. I still find it highly suspect! haha. We just got home from taking our kid to school. 30-mile loop. 1 hill that's about 1/2 mile up and 1/2 mile down. Otherwise, flat. about 10 minutes of idling to warm up and while dropping off. 28 MPG per the computer. I am putting all of my fuel ups on fuelly per the numbers starting with the last fill up so i can track it. Our mileage seems to be getting worse the longer wo own it. We had a few tanks around 33-34mpg and the last one was 32. Very very underwhelming. I may trade it in for a hybrid if it doesn't get better soon. Like i said our last corolla and the yaris averaged 35 plus and usually closer to 40. We love the car. It is a little small and hurts my back at 6 ft 200lbs. I thought the seats were better at first but they still curl my shoulders in and tilt head forward causing pain on long drives. We will see how it goes!

@@platinumlawnservice that’s interesting. I wonder if it has to do with the larger wheels / tires on the SE? We’ve been getting 40-42 MPG pretty consistently. I was actually thinking about getting different wheels of of FB, but maybe not now. I would have loved a Hybrid, but they were so hard to find. But at 40 MPG, we aren’t far off.. yeah, you’ll be fine with the oil changes. My only recent experience was a 2017 Prius I brought used. I actually sold it at 117k miles because it was losing coolant. The dealer said maybe they saw some coolant in one cylinder. But it was driven pretty hard by the previous owner. They did 10,000 mile on changes, but again I have no concrete proof either way. It may have been a fluke. anyway, have you used the lane tracing at all? It’s pretty cool.

@@rickm8456 Also interesting is that we went in and originally bought a well used prius that had a head gasket failure they didn't tell us about! I looked up the records and saw that it was recommended for a new engine. Sneaky dealer. Anyways Idk if it's the wheels or what. I wouldn't think that would make that much of a difference since our old 2018 had 17s and this one has 18s? I dont know but ill kep updating on fuelly. The last tank was 31.2. Yikes!

The hood doesn't have a noise damper on it either so that may be another reason it seems louder than you would expect.

If you want the CVT transmission to last as long as possible, I’d get the fluid changed every 30,000 miles. All you need to do is drain the fluid and refill it.. No need to do any flushes.

Rick, is the lack of a tuning button problematic on the new infotainment system? I’m glad they kept an on/off and volume control knob.

I bought the same car for my wife as well, same color same version, but here in Mexico, it has several changes in the inside and equipment, the selling agent told us that we can use unleaded fuel, so we are filling up the tank with unleaded fuel, I’ve read the manual and it says it ok. What fuel are you using my friend ?

How do you think the mpg fairs to what they claim? Is it accurate ? Also how do you think the car would be for someone over 6 feet tall? Thanks

Mpg for us he been great. 40 is easy to achieve. I think the size would be fine. The opening of the back door is a little tighter for taller people.
