I, too love the new generation Nissan Sentra. It's a really great all around car. But I share the same concern as you in regards to the reliability, especially longer term. Longer term the Corolla and Civic will still be standing.

I have a 2023 Corolla Hybrid AWD on order, same color as you got (beautiful blue!). Other choices were the not yet available Corolla Cross Hybrid, and the 2023 Prius. The Corolla should be around 5K cheaper than the other two, but we don't yet know about availability and price on them.
Corolla is a solid car. Very reliable and will last over 200,000 miles. When they were 15-20 grand I endorsed them but now pushing 25 grand its a pass. Id rather spend a few extra and get a more premium Camry.
Camry is more premium? Then how comes the 2023 Camry LE comes with a smaller 7 inch screen, the old outdated Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, no wireless apple carplay, no wireless android auto, and no rear usb-c ports? Also even a base Camry will easily cost you over 30k.
I agree! I had the same 2017 Prius. I would have kept it, but the dealer offered me 3k more than I paid for it (I got it used before the pandemic). So, I jumped on that.

I picked the LE up two weeks ago from a dealer in LA and drove couple hours home. Mine had the exact non-centering steering wheel issue. I brought to my local dealer. They determined the front-toe was out of alignment and aligned it. The service advisor said he had seen this problem before and believed they must have knocked it out of alignment when they transported the vehicle from the truck to the dealership.

I just picked up my 23’ Corolla two days ago, I have the same steering wheel off center issue- glad to know I am not the only one! I’ll be bringing it back next weekend, how long to repair?
@@paulfennell01 thanks for the comment. I had two separate trips to the dealer. The first one it still wasn’t perfect and the second one was pretty close to perfect. So yeah, about three hours in total at the dealer. I have noticed recently now it’s going off-center in the other direction! My mechanic said it is a difficult thing to fix perfectly. I’ll probably say something again at the dealer before my one year is up on the alignment warranty. The whole thing is definitely a mild annoyance. That shouldn’t be happening on a brand new car. But that’s really our only issue. Everything else has been great. We have about 5000 miles on it all ready.. Was yours built in Japan too?
The trunk closing firmly is normal. It a very solid seal. Toyota's CVT is more reliable than Nissan's, but remember to flush / exchange your CVT fluid at 60K per your owners manual. I sub'd and look forward to more of your content.
Just picked mine up Saturday. Me too 400 miles r/t to get as there were no LE’s in Northern Ohio, or the dealers were doing mandatory $2500 ceramic coatings. Yes, my trunk closes hard too.

Be careful closing the trunk, my Corolla is the same way, you have to slam the trunk Pretty good for it to latch. Over time you will get small dings along the trunk. The metal is so thin, that's what happens. What I do, grab the trunk from the bottom below the license plate and close it.
I watched your video again just because I really love this car! I plan on buying a 2023 Corolla LE too next year when interest rates are higher so I can buy it below MSRP (I'm a cash buyer). My goal is at least a $1000 off MSRP. I will also select Celestite, a beautiful color, but I plan on adding the $1200 convenience package. Blind spot monitors, rear cross traffic alert, smart key with door sensors, push button start, remote start, and lovely silver alloy wheels.
Awesome! I was a mostly a cash buyer as well. I got it at MSRP. Good luck getting it below. You might get lucky in a couple months however. I don’t think there’s much negotiation right now on a car like the Corolla..The convenience package is the way to go. I would’ve done it but my wife really didn’t care and was more interested in saving a little bit of money.
Also, most of the Corolla’s right now do not have the convenience package so they are harder to find. Somebody will swoop in right behind you and pay MSRP. That might change the next year, so who knows.
@@rickm8456 As interest rates grow higher, more & more people will be unemployed which reduces demand for Corollas. Plus, taking out a car loan becomes more expensive which further reduces demand. That's when a cash buyer like me can swoop in and buy the car below MSRP at the end of the month when the dealership needs to meet their sales target.

That was one of the few 2023’s that actually made it to the lot without being pre-purchased. I called about 15 dealers in my state and found the same story.

You can't go wrong on purchasing a new Toyota that you plan to own 10-12 years. Way better resale value on it. One question; did you consider the hybrid version of the Corolla? Or the Corolla Cross? Thanks for the upload and congratulations on the new vehicle 😀
Thanks! I thought the Corolla Cross was intriguing and I like the styling, but after sitting in one I wasn't sure. If you are getting a vehicle like that, the RAV seems like the better choice size wise. The back seat is tiny in the Cross. And of course, it was more money. Re the Hybrid - the ones that I did see in my area were marked up 3 thousand more; that's if you could get one.
Nice descriptive video! The 2 liter engine has 30 more HP than the 1.8 liter engine (139 vs 169), better fuel economy (33 mpg vs 35 mpg), and it's been out for 5 years when you include the Lexus UX200. The current gen Camry & RAV4 have the same type of dynamic force engine btw, just a bit bigger. I'm sure it will be reliable. Also it's auto one touch up & down for all 4 windows.

What you likely didn't know is Nissan warranties its cvt for 12 months only. Jatco makes Nissan Transmissions, its mostly owned by Nissan. Toyotas 1.8 is one of the most reliable engines Toyota makes. It is port injected only. One of the last port injected only engines available. Still can be had in 2023 in a hybride corolla. Your trunk closing hard is NOT normal, return to the dealer & have it adjusted. Indeed you have wireless Apple carplay & android auto. You made the correct choice. I purchased a 2022 LE with convenience package in November. It is car number 300+ in 53 years of driving. Sold a 2022 Hyundai Accent SEL to buy the Toyota. I will likely look into a XLE later this year. I like Toyota quality & the TNGA is excellent! I had a 2013 Camry LE, a 2019 Camry LE 2.5, a 2021 Corolla Hatch Special Edition 2.0, The 2.0 liter is dual injected with both port & direct injection & very themal effecient. My 2022 Corolla LE is in Ruby Flare Pearl & a 1.8. My wife drives a 2020 Tacoma 4x4 Access cab with the 2.7. Both these engines are port injected. (no concern of intake manifold carbon build up).
Hi Rick, Great video! We are also planning to buy the Corolla LE, Do you think we’ll have a hard time driving in the snow because of the ride height and the car being FWD? We recently came to Canada so it will be my first time to drive in the snow considering it gets delivered in February. The other option is the Corolla Cross but it takes 8 months for the car to get delivered. We live in Niagara, Ontario , I think we don’t get harsh winters here and I see lots of compact sedans on the road as well.
Thanks! I’m not sure about the snow. I want to say it will be OK. However, we had a 2017 Prius which was horrible in the snow. I never figured out by since it’s from wheel drive. The Corolla is based on the same platform. We will see!
I live in the U.P. of Michigan and I have a 2022 Corolla LE. I needed to get snow tires.... night and day difference!!! The best snow tires in my opinion are the Bridgestone Blizzak WS 90's. They grip like no tomorrow and turn the Corolla into a small tank in the winter!

Thanks! I did consider it. Basically, we needed a car soon and didn’t want to wait 6 months. Also, the couple of hybrids I did see were priced 3-6 thousand more (they were already reserved). The hybrid MPG’s would have been great and I loved our Prius, but I got 43 MPG in my first tank. I’ll take that. Also, so far I’m enjoying the pep and acceleration of the 2.0 engine! Our Prius was considerably slower.

I likely don’t need to be in a hurry. I am though getting major sticker shock on the hybrids, as you seem to imply easily a $3000 over MSRP premium at several dealerships, just looking on line. The all wheel drive is a bit tempting, you getting 43 mpg and the possibility of paying msrp as opposed to the high premiums, I am thinking the long term savings might not justify the hybrid. Fortunately I do seem to have time on my side as I have to wait out the repair process on the current car. Again thank you.

I discovered another issue with these new Corollas because I also have a 2023 Corolla. The USB Type C ports does not recognize flash drives. It will only work for your phones. That’s it. I had. Civic before and it picked up every flash drive I threw at it. I hate using my phone inside these cars and just want to listen to my music stored on the flash drive but these Corollas can’t play them. I don’t know if this is common in all Toyota vehicles but this sucks. Oh well. It’s to drive from point A to point B, that’s it. I debated what color I wanted and ended choosing the wind chill Pearl which is beautiful! It’s not just a pure white color but it has a nice shimmer with a subtle silver/purple like hue at certain angles. So this is different from just a plain white or Snow White color. I disabled all my Toyota Sense. I can’t get rid of the annoying adaptive cruising from the instrument panel but at least it’s not in use. That part is annoying seeing it there all the time. There is just no want to disable it completely. The software for the infotainment center is really lacking. It’s s slight improvement over the older models but it’s one place Toyota really needs to improve on tech wise. Then again, we’re not using the car as a computer station or anything like that. For basic functions, everything’s there. Just disappointed it can’t read flash drives for mp3.
Exact same situation here. We tried for two weeks to find a trustworthy used car in the $13k range but nothing but junk and salvage titles in my area. Wife hadn't had a car payment in 20 years. We have 450 miles on it so far. Trunk does take a firm close. We've had a check engine light for 5 days they can't figure out. "Crank position sensor". They replaced the sensor but the codes come back on next cold start. It's back at the dealer now. Anyone else have issues yet?

I think that trunk is a little too difficult to close, not terrible but not great. Idk if that is a thing with this generation but it’s not that big of a deal if you gotta live with it
I wonder how those new cvt's drive. Do they feel like physical gear shifts with the simulated shifts? My first car in high school was a 1997 corolla with a 4 speed auto. I really liked the 4 speed. But i did drive a nissan cvt in drivers ed it was pretty bad to the point i told myself i would never buy a cvt. I ended up buying a mazda cx-30 because it still had a regular torque converted 6 speed auto like my old corolla had.
It’s pretty good. Has an actual first gear. The engine matches the throttle input pretty quickly without much lag. I would still prefer more gears but it’s fine.
It doesn't feel like a physical gear shift, but it still has some simulated shift. Better than the older Nissans for sure which was about the worst showcase of cvt that exists

@@rickm8456 Rick, what was your process when making a deposit for the car? I agreed to make a deposit for $2,500 for a car that was not going to be arriving till about 40 days later. He still wanted me to apply for credit and give them my SOC number, driver license and copy of insurance card. I told him I will either buy cash or do finance with my bank but still he wanted me to go through credit application process just because I was "putting a deposit" on car. Please let me know. @@321192ify against my better judgement, I did give a $500 nonrefundable CC deposit. No credit checks. I did that because there was VIN attached and the dealer said it was coming in a week. It ended up being 3 weeks, but that's fine. I didn't give my SS#, but I did share my license and insurance card (which I needed in my state to buy). I agree they don't need to do a credit check since you are not using their financing. I would fight against that. I called about 15 dealers, and one mentioned a credit check to hold it. I didn't buy with them.
I have a 2014 LE, and I bought a 2022 LE last year. Toyota REMOVED the heated side view mirrors sometime in between and the 2022 does not have them. Does the 2023 LE? It's a huge problem when the car is encased in ice. Scraping them is problematic because I think it would be easy to damage the positional controls behind them. It isn't safe. Now I have two ziplocs with rubber bands and I wrap them up when parking in the winter.
You made a good choice. Nissan uses Jacko, or something like that, transmissions. They are terrible. I'm waiting on my 2023 Corolla (same color as yours).
Congrats! We have 11k on it already and no regrets. I would take a pre-delivery test drive and check the steering wheel. Mine was off center. Keep an eye on it after that. I had to get mine aligned twice. That's really been the only issue. Also, we did an oil change at 1k and 5k. That's completely up to you. Recently we've gotten amazing MPG - 45-50 on the highway on long trips. Enjoy!
Can you explain the headlights. Those headlights look like the 2022 headlights. All the 2023 seem to have a different design slightly. What am I missing here?
Those new headlights are only for the SE, XSE, XLE, and hybrid models. As far as I can tell the headlights on the base gas LE stayed the same even though they said it had a different DRL but it’s BS. It’s still the same on the LE. The headlights still dim to give you the DRL so it’s not real DRLs like the upper trims.
How long did you have to wait for delivery. In OZ we still have maybe upto 20 months for a hybrid Corolla. Covid unfortunatly is still having an impact causing shortage of parts and suspension of manufacturing. We can't even find a new car to test drive.
@@rickm8456 It's a little different in Australia. Japan export cars to Australia like handing out breadcrumbs to the 400 or so so dealers. We are just a tiny island to them. Remember we just have a population of 26 million.

I know this isn't related to the video but our Honda Accord 2022 Sport only has automatic front windows and the rear seats are manual and they don't go down all the way just half sorta.

@@alisonchen the 3 press trick doesn't work on the LE unless you buy push button start convenience package. We've had ours for 2 weeks and it was the first thing I tried. It's the wife's car. I have an xle camry and the fob trick works.

Sorry to hear that. Pick up a used one. The Prius has had an electric water pump for 20 years. It’s been fine. If it does and break someday, I’ll just replace it. I’m not worried. The 2.0 is more efficient then the 1.8 and it’s a lot quicker.
This is the wrong time to buy a used car. You made a good choice for more than one reason. Just got me a white LE today. I will hold on to it forever.

The trunk normally takes a couple of tries to latch.

Yes. So far so good. My other car is a Rav at 180,000 miles and it’s still going strong.

Awesome! I was a mostly a cash buyer as well. I got it at MSRP. Good luck getting it below. You might get lucky in a couple months however. I don’t think there’s much negotiation right now on a car like the Corolla..The convenience package is the way to go. I would’ve done it but my wife really didn’t care and was more interested in saving a little bit of money.
Also, most of the Corolla’s right now do not have the convenience package so they are harder to find. Somebody will swoop in right behind you and pay MSRP. That might change the next year, so who knows.
@@rickm8456 As interest rates grow higher, more & more people will be unemployed which reduces demand for Corollas. Plus, taking out a car loan becomes more expensive which further reduces demand. That's when a cash buyer like me can swoop in and buy the car below MSRP at the end of the month when the dealership needs to meet their sales target.
@@braetonwilson4296 sure - it’s worth a shot! But I don’t see anything changing in at least 6 months. My local dealer had a 2023 on the lot for two days before someone brought it. That was one of the few 2023’s that actually made it to the lot without being pre-purchased. I called about 15 dealers in my state and found the same story.
@@rickm8456 thats exactly what happened to my wife and i, we found 1 at our local toyota dealership, we got a 2500 markup on top of the msrp, but we walked away from the dealership the same day with a 2023 corolla hybrid!!

Thanks! I thought the Corolla Cross was intriguing and I like the styling, but after sitting in one I wasn't sure. If you are getting a vehicle like that, the RAV seems like the better choice size wise. The back seat is tiny in the Cross. And of course, it was more money. Re the Hybrid - the ones that I did see in my area were marked up 3 thousand more; that's if you could get one.
Nice descriptive video! The 2 liter engine has 30 more HP than the 1.8 liter engine (139 vs 169), better fuel economy (33 mpg vs 35 mpg), and it's been out for 5 years when you include the Lexus UX200. The current gen Camry & RAV4 have the same type of dynamic force engine btw, just a bit bigger. I'm sure it will be reliable. Also it's auto one touch up & down for all 4 windows.

What you likely didn't know is Nissan warranties its cvt for 12 months only. Jatco makes Nissan Transmissions, its mostly owned by Nissan. Toyotas 1.8 is one of the most reliable engines Toyota makes. It is port injected only. One of the last port injected only engines available. Still can be had in 2023 in a hybride corolla. Your trunk closing hard is NOT normal, return to the dealer & have it adjusted. Indeed you have wireless Apple carplay & android auto. You made the correct choice. I purchased a 2022 LE with convenience package in November. It is car number 300+ in 53 years of driving. Sold a 2022 Hyundai Accent SEL to buy the Toyota. I will likely look into a XLE later this year. I like Toyota quality & the TNGA is excellent! I had a 2013 Camry LE, a 2019 Camry LE 2.5, a 2021 Corolla Hatch Special Edition 2.0, The 2.0 liter is dual injected with both port & direct injection & very themal effecient. My 2022 Corolla LE is in Ruby Flare Pearl & a 1.8. My wife drives a 2020 Tacoma 4x4 Access cab with the 2.7. Both these engines are port injected. (no concern of intake manifold carbon build up).
Hi Rick, Great video! We are also planning to buy the Corolla LE, Do you think we’ll have a hard time driving in the snow because of the ride height and the car being FWD? We recently came to Canada so it will be my first time to drive in the snow considering it gets delivered in February. The other option is the Corolla Cross but it takes 8 months for the car to get delivered. We live in Niagara, Ontario , I think we don’t get harsh winters here and I see lots of compact sedans on the road as well.

I live in the U.P. of Michigan and I have a 2022 Corolla LE. I needed to get snow tires.... night and day difference!!! The best snow tires in my opinion are the Bridgestone Blizzak WS 90's. They grip like no tomorrow and turn the Corolla into a small tank in the winter!

Thanks! I did consider it. Basically, we needed a car soon and didn’t want to wait 6 months. Also, the couple of hybrids I did see were priced 3-6 thousand more (they were already reserved). The hybrid MPG’s would have been great and I loved our Prius, but I got 43 MPG in my first tank. I’ll take that. Also, so far I’m enjoying the pep and acceleration of the 2.0 engine! Our Prius was considerably slower.

I am though getting major sticker shock on the hybrids, as you seem to imply easily a $3000 over MSRP premium at several dealerships, just looking on line. The all wheel drive is a bit tempting, you getting 43 mpg and the possibility of paying msrp as opposed to the high premiums, I am thinking the long term savings might not justify the hybrid. Fortunately I do seem to have time on my side as I have to wait out the repair process on the current car.

I discovered another issue with these new Corollas because I also have a 2023 Corolla. The USB Type C ports does not recognize flash drives. It will only work for your phones. That’s it. I had. Civic before and it picked up every flash drive I threw at it. I hate using my phone inside these cars and just want to listen to my music stored on the flash drive but these Corollas can’t play them. I don’t know if this is common in all Toyota vehicles but this sucks. Oh well. It’s to drive from point A to point B, that’s it.
I debated what color I wanted and ended choosing the wind chill Pearl which is beautiful! It’s not just a pure white color but it has a nice shimmer with a subtle silver/purple like hue at certain angles. So this is different from just a plain white or Snow White color.
I disabled all my Toyota Sense. I can’t get rid of the annoying adaptive cruising from the instrument panel but at least it’s not in use. That part is annoying seeing it there all the time. There is just no want to disable it completely.
The software for the infotainment center is really lacking. It’s s slight improvement over the older models but it’s one place Toyota really needs to improve on tech wise. Then again, we’re not using the car as a computer station or anything like that. For basic functions, everything’s there. Just disappointed it can’t read flash drives for mp3.
Exact same situation here. We tried for two weeks to find a trustworthy used car in the $13k range but nothing but junk and salvage titles in my area. Wife hadn't had a car payment in 20 years. We have 450 miles on it so far. Trunk does take a firm close. We've had a check engine light for 5 days they can't figure out. "Crank position sensor". They replaced the sensor but the codes come back on next cold start. It's back at the dealer now. Anyone else have issues yet?

I wonder how those new cvt's drive. Do they feel like physical gear shifts with the simulated shifts? My first car in high school was a 1997 corolla with a 4 speed auto. I really liked the 4 speed. But i did drive a nissan cvt in drivers ed it was pretty bad to the point i told myself i would never buy a cvt. I ended up buying a mazda cx-30 because it still had a regular torque converted 6 speed auto like my old corolla had.
It’s pretty good. Has an actual first gear. The engine matches the throttle input pretty quickly without much lag. I would still prefer more gears but it’s fine.
It doesn't feel like a physical gear shift, but it still has some simulated shift. Better than the older Nissans for sure which was about the worst showcase of cvt that exists

He still wanted me to apply for credit and give them my SOC number, driver license and copy of insurance card. I told him I will either buy cash or do finance with my bank but still he wanted me to go through credit application process just because I was "putting a deposit" on car. Please let me know. @@321192ify against my better judgement, I did give a $500 nonrefundable CC deposit. No credit checks. I did that because there was VIN attached and the dealer said it was coming in a week. It ended up being 3 weeks, but that's fine. I didn't give my SS#, but I did share my license and insurance card (which I needed in my state to buy). I agree they don't need to do a credit check since you are not using their financing. I would fight against that. I called about 15 dealers, and one mentioned a credit check to hold it. I didn't buy with them.

I have a 2014 LE, and I bought a 2022 LE last year. Toyota REMOVED the heated side view mirrors sometime in between and the 2022 does not have them. Does the 2023 LE?
It's a huge problem when the car is encased in ice. Scraping them is problematic because I think it would be easy to damage the positional controls behind them. It isn't safe. Now I have two ziplocs with rubber bands and I wrap them up when parking in the winter.

Nissan uses JATCO CVT transmissions. The new ones are improved but still not as good as Toyota's Aisin CVT transmissions.

Congrats! We have 11k on it already and no regrets. I would take a pre-delivery test drive and check the steering wheel. Mine was off center. Keep an eye on it after that. I had to get mine aligned twice. That's really been the only issue. Also, we did an oil change at 1k and 5k. That's completely up to you. Recently we've gotten amazing MPG - 45-50 on the highway on long trips. Enjoy!
I don't think the trunk is closing correctly. My corolla closes in one swoop (albeit it takes a bit of force) not 3 tries like yours.

Yes I think you are right. Torsion on the LE. If you wouldn’t have told me that I wouldn’t have noticed. It takes bumps fine. Corners well.

Can you explain the headlights. Those headlights look like the 2022 headlights. All the 2023 seem to have a different design slightly. What am I missing here?

Those new headlights are only for the SE, XSE, XLE, and hybrid models. As far as I can tell the headlights on the base gas LE stayed the same even though they said it had a different DRL but it’s BS. It’s still the same on the LE. The headlights still dim to give you the DRL so it’s not real DRLs like the upper trims.

How long did you have to wait for delivery. In OZ we still have maybe upto 20 months for a hybrid Corolla. Covid unfortunatly is still having an impact causing shortage of parts and suspension of manufacturing. We can't even find a new car to test drive.

The Toyota dealers are very greedy. All the dealers are doing markup for 1000-1200$ without markup they are not ready to sell the vehicle

I missed out on buying a 2022 with the 1.8 engine. I don’t want a piece of junk 2.0 over engineered engine with an electric water pump.
Sorry to hear that. Pick up a used one. The Prius has had an electric water pump for 20 years. It’s been fine. If it does and break someday, I’ll just replace it. I’m not worried. The 2.0 is more efficient then the 1.8 and it’s a lot quicker.
Unfortunately, you can’t rebuild the head on the 2.0 it doesn’t have replaceable valve seals. It is a disposable assembly.
