I love that dry British humor, it cheers me up immensely... Happy birthday, Frank! You have a legion of fans who wholeheartedly wish you the very best for years and years to come!!!
That is hands down the most beautiful cover I’ve ever heard. But at the same time it’s kind of haunting, seeing a song that came from a place of darkness and depression from a young mans life being sung by a man who has lived a full life and has more days behind him than in front of him gives a whole new light and meaning to the song. It’s like with original version it’s Kurt fighting to stay above water but there’s something blocking him from escaping and embracing happiness but with your version it’s like “yeah I’ve lived my life and I accept fate”, it’s like your admitting your life story and greeting death as it creeps closer. It’s like Johnny Cash’s version of hurt by nine inch nails, that’s his admission and embrace of his life. But I don’t know I’m probably over thinking it.
@Max Wilson I simply had to let you know I don't think you were overthinking it At All. My first or maybe second comment ever on 1 of Frank's videos was very similar to yours.. He has a way of evoking 'reminiscing 'days gone by' type feelings that are almost peaceful, in lyrics that are often just a sad song until Frank sings it. Very much the same as Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt evoked conflicting feelings in me & many others. Haunting but totally not sad & depressing & I don't get it & have only had it happen with 1 other artist on 1 specific song & performance (outside of Johnny Cash) & Frank does it over & over & over & its a special kind of magic that you don't often see. Cash had it & Frank does too. You did not just overthink it. It's what Frank does 💜
I agree with you and all but Kurt's lyrics were just gibberish, he's stated in multiple interviews his lyrics really never had meaning behind them. But I get what you mean by the tone, that's something you live for with this type of music
@@thadpeud3057 some songs are nonsensical but there are some songs that have meaning and are actually about things like something in the way was inspired by this bridge that Kurt used to hangout under and sometimes sleep under in Aberdeen and how he was fortunate that when he was sleeping there the tide didn’t rise and drown him. As well as songs like rape me which is a very blunt stance against rape and about a girl which is about his ex girlfriend who broke up with him
@@patricesage331 Neil Young has made me feel the same way you are describing in a way. He sings so many sad songs but with so much depth of feeling and empathy that I feel comforted hearing his soulfulness... I have listened to Neil at work for so many years keeping me company while I clean alone, that he is like a good friend who is there to sympathize. Frank's soulful heart shows through kind of in the same way, very sad but comforting at the same time. You can tell he has lived a full life and he really cares. While Kurt was less experienced but with his own depth of feeling...💙🌎🌌🎶
@@charlesbogle6544 wow you're right. Lol. Not to the same degree or regularity as this gentleman seems to do without trying but you got me reflecting on times in the past where the feeling /mood I & others got were rather contrary from the lyrics lol. So it's gotta be the voice.. the soulfulness in the voice makes us feel connected, understood, comforted?? Makes sense, thanks for giving me a new viewpoint to see it from.. still kinda makes my brain hurt tho lol. Uplifting Melancholy hahaha. Actually the Leonard Cohen hallelujah is the perfect example of thst cuz I wager many who enthusiastically sing along & say they love that song would not say or act the same if you handed them the lyrics on an untitled sheet of paper.. its easy to not notice its not a fun song but it feels like camraderie.. music is magical & with the right voice music can be pure magic 👍
This guy is to Nirvana what Johnny Cash was to Nine Inch Nails with his cover of Hurt. The same lyrics, given different meanings due to the context of the singer's lives and the style it's performed in. Really amazing cover
Personally I think this cover has a little variation to Kurt's. It still has that somber feeling but this one gives it hope, Kurt feels like it is hopeless or hope will come from hardships. Both are amazing but I love Kurt's better
Just wait until you hear Frank’s cover of Creep (Radiohead). He’s set the new standard by which all other covers of Creep will be judged henceforth. Hi Frank, this is the second cover of yours I have seen after Nutshell, and it is great to hear a new soulful spin on the Northwest songs that we grew up with. I like how you tied an honest sad real story into this song. I heard Bob Dylan's "Only a hobo, but another is gone" at work a few days ago and it made me feel deeply for all of our fellow human family who are homeless... Also my friend in Switzerland just covered this song a couple of days ago, and it was the first time I heard the lyrics right: "the tarp has sprung a leak"... I always thought it was "top" 🎩 Anyway, thank you for your soulful performance good sir

Ducaraaaiiii!!! Tem meu respeito!!
You always have such a unique and amazing take on all the songs you do. My grandfather always used to tell me that hard work never killed anyone but one should never take any chances.
Très belle interprétation ❤
Dont let all this fame go to your head old man 😅🤗🤗🤗❤❤❤❤ one of my favorite Nirvana songs, I think Kurt would love it. Thank you ❤
Everybody seems to think i'm famous , when i'm just old Frank.
happy birthday Frank! another great cover too
Not used to crying because of RUclips videos, this was awesome. Made me think of if Kurt was still around to perform this

Thanks.
@@FrankWatkinson you're welcome sir as always ♡
its like leonard cohen plays nirvana. love it
Hi Frank, this is the second cover of yours I have seen after Nutshell, and it is great to hear a new soulful spin on the Northwest songs that we grew up with.
Thanks
Thank you
@@89ksokd91 A stranger on the internet is rooting for you.

Awesome Frank...you got a way of singing those moody dark songs.
I'm a huge Nirvana fan and I really loved your picking style playing this track!! It was beautiful, dreamy and so kul to see all walks of life keeping Kurts music alive!! If only he was still here to see how many people he's influenced!! Also loved your jokes!!
Bravo Frank! Hat's off sir, future's so bright, ya gotta wear shades!
